So, we have an ad for someone deciding to jilt their potential bridegroom at the last minute, she's got the wedding frock (love the word frockgrin) everything seems to be set up, but at the last minute she decides against it.

The ad is for chewing gum...confused

If anyone can explain the concept behind that, I would love to be enlightened, or though I suppose the fact that I'm asking about it says something!

Still won't be buying any chewing gum though, revolting stuff!

Love this too, but have never taken on board what it's advertising!

I like the Audrey Hepburn ad - funny how we're all different!

I'm glad I'm not the only one, Ana! smile

I've always loved Moon River, though it's now ever so slightly spoiled by association with the disastrous ballroom dancing classes DH and I attended. We'd all have to dance round to it at the end of each session while our three tutors inspected us from the stage above and told us someone was turning the wrong way or someone was out of step. That someone was always us. blush

I know this is mainly about TV ads, but my gripe is about adverts aimed at retired people, no matter what the product.

I have never seen any advert which features older people where the older people portrayed in the advert didn't put me off even finding out what product is being advertised. Older people in adverts seem to come in two models. Model 1: Tall slim, white haired, teeth and trousers to match and being active Model 2: difficult to describe with out being criticised for being ageist, but I hope you will understanding, little old lady, (almost always) bespectacled, wearing a cardigan and probably in a care home or at a day centre.

I identify with neither but do not know what alternative I would identify with. Perhaps the ads for us should come without people in them

The ostrich ad is great( Samsung btw) and the best for a long time, the worst IMHO are the ad with James Corden spinning around and parking, and the smug pair in their rented car going to Margate.
I know what you mean Monica the older fitter couple have perfect hair and ( false) teeth and wear pastel colours and smile at each other a lot.grin

I don't know all the ads mentioned ( ostrich and weddings chewing gum and M and S don't ring any bells) I seem to completely close off when they are on but I recognise a few that have been mentioned I hate the Sixt thing they are truely awful and would totally put me off ever having anything to do with Sixt (whatever it is) dislike the Audrey Hepburn and the James dodah parking, I can't stand the little boy with the washing up bottle and the whiney voice Dislike the yogurt ones and whatsherface falling over intensely, but I do like the Haribo however it wouldn't make me rush out to buy them
