So, we have an ad for someone deciding to jilt their potential bridegroom at the last minute, she's got the wedding frock (love the word frockgrin) everything seems to be set up, but at the last minute she decides against it.

The ad is for chewing gum...confused

If anyone can explain the concept behind that, I would love to be enlightened, or though I suppose the fact that I'm asking about it says something!

Still won't be buying any chewing gum though, revolting stuff!

Slightly off subject but sometimes what looks like chewing gum all over the pavements is not chewing gum at all but a lichen.

Fascinating really.

Not sure what to make of the Haribo,s adverts with the adults talking in children's voices ! Nor the Nationwide ones with random people coming on spouting random things! But do like the Mcvitities chocolate biscuits ones were little kittens come out of the packets....obviously the child in me still!

I've had nasty stuff to deal with and see no harm in the light-hearted stuff on here. The categories are clearly labelled. One does not have to dip into a lighthearted thread if one does not want to. When its been pretty dark, laughing at something incongruous has helped me.
To be honest laughing life during our worst nightmares has been a much admired British trait....think of all those wonderful posters from the war.

Out here in the sticks our TV is very unsophisticated....we cant pause/stop them or whatever you trendy types do but to be honest I'm glad of the chance to take dog out, put kettle on or dash to the loo.

The furniture 'gold for the price of silver'guy and the dirty look he gets from his boss.

pollyperkins Thu 25-May-17 15:22:37

I get fed up with rdio ads on classic fm too!

Morgana Thu 25-May-17 15:22:43

Hate the direct line ones
.love the ostrich

I love the dog ad. Where he makes everywhere muddy and a cleaning product cleans it. With the multi national ads. Often they are foreign and don't get how our sense of humour. That's why they have voice overs explaining the product so they can be done in different languages.

HildaW Thu 25-May-17 16:57:18

My guilty pleasure advert is the young vampire....its for an appalling product (online gambling) but I love his character.

Chewbacca Thu 25-May-17 17:14:34

The ad that pushes my buttons is the one where Barry Scott bawls at the top of his voice "CILLIT BANG! BANG AND THE DIRT IS GONE!" Does my head in. Every. Time.

1974cookie Thu 25-May-17 17:51:46

I know that I will sound a sad person, but I love the advert which features the Ostrich that desperately wants to learn how to fly after getting his head caught in a simulator.

NotTooOld Thu 25-May-17 18:19:20

Oh yes, those slim, grey-haired, 'we're still in love' oldies cavorting in white linen advertising gawd-knows-what. Where do they get them from? I certainly don't know any. And the Lloyds black horse as mentioned by Tilly - well, you have to laugh. And wy does that woman wear a swimming costume in her bath-with-a-door? Looks mad to me.

NotTooOld Thu 25-May-17 18:19:49

Why not wy!!!

Victoria08 Thu 25-May-17 18:52:49

If you don't like the adverts, just mute them.
That's what I do as I find them all fairly irritating.

Legs55 Thu 25-May-17 21:47:32

I too use the time the ads are on to make a brew, wash up, tidy up, go to the loo, empty washing machine.

Only ads I really like are the Whiskas onessmile

hazel311259 Thu 25-May-17 22:20:24

The worse the advert is the more memorable shake and vac need i say more or radio ad don't badger me badger badger windows!

bikergran Thu 25-May-17 22:35:31

Worst at the mo for me..is the one before Emmerdale..their sat round a table in the office...holding 2 chips pretending to talk to each other..!! ohh myyyyyyy...think its Mcaines chips I dont know....

Katek Thu 25-May-17 23:18:37

I like the Virgin Media ad where all the different progs travel down the tunnel. Quite clever, lots to look at and catchy music. As for annoying ads, anything to do with funeral plans, stargazer lilies, Parker pens or free gift 'just for enquiring' are at top of my list, then there's that stupid woman who can't stay upright and gets yoghurt on her nose. Patronising your target market doesn't seem like a very smart sales technique!!

grannylyn65 Fri 26-May-17 07:30:59

Oh katek I cannot bear the yougurt one ,makes me so cross !angry

gillgran Fri 26-May-17 10:03:34

I can take or leave the adverts, I know that the advertisers pay/subsidise the programmes, so thats good.
A recent one "wood green animal shelter", -worries me that they are spending a lot of money on ads., that could be spent on the animals. (maybe, as a charity they got a 'deal' on the costs?).
I do realise the purpose of their ad., is to raise awareness & money for the shelter.

henetha Fri 26-May-17 10:24:32

I hate those sentimental ads which try to make us believe that they really care about us when all they care about is getting our money!
I usually just go to the loo, or put the kettle on, or water the plants....
But I must admit I did catch the flying ostrich one
recently and loved it.

grannylyn65 Fri 26-May-17 12:15:46

yogurt even !!

SallyDapp Fri 26-May-17 14:13:34

My most unfavourite of the moment is the Pantene female boxer who says "train your hair-Strong!" Is that even English? I hate the grammar and cringe every time it comes on but the very fact that I know which company it's advertising tells you it's working. hmm

5boysnan55555 Fri 26-May-17 14:57:37

I can't stand the Audrey Hepburn ad it is scary and sad and I don't know why.

grannylyn65 Fri 26-May-17 15:32:48

Yes creepy!

angelab Fri 26-May-17 15:40:29
