Mosquito spray. We didn't need them in Zante.

Yellow fever vaccines when we went to South America. There was an outbreak in one area we went to and we were told we wouldn’t be allowed into the next country we were visiting without showing our certificates. We weren’t asked for them and nobody else in our party had been vaccinated.

We were advised to have Yellow Fever vaccines for South America, which proved to be a problem at the time, for some reason or other there weren't any available. Then we found out that we didn't need them for the parts of Argentina and Brazil we were going to. Glad we didn't have them now, I gather there can be some nasty side effects. Although like you we were told if we went to Brazil first we wouldn't be allowed into Argentina without them, fortunately we went to Argentina first.

We did actually go to Brazil first, then into Argentina, but nobody was checking. Fortunately we escaped the vaccine side effects. Ah well, if we’re ever lucky enough to go back and the same situation applies, we have our certificates ready and waiting!

We had Yellow Fever for Brazil (and numerous other meds, as we were going to the rainforest)

When we arrived the Brazilian Border Control were on a go slow, took nearly three hours to get though.

They scrutinised every page of our passports, and double checked all vaccine certificates.

Car hire in Los Angeles...
When we got there they didn't have any cars left!

It was a Hertz booking but all the car hire firms were the same with new arrivals at the desks and no cars.

My son drove up to pick us up and let us borrow his car.
We did get a refund later!

Similar to you, some years ago, going to Spain, DP did all the packing as I had pulled muscles in my back at work.
Got to the hotel and put my dresses on hangers and asked DP where my two pretty pairs of sandals were packed. You guessed it, he hadn’t packed them or any other shoes for me, I just had the trainers I stood up in.🤬
