I watched this programme tonight and its the best TV I've seen in ages. Well acted and wonderful story. Can highly recommend if you have catch up.

Oh thank goodness for" the type that give all women a bad name" what a boring pious lot we would be without them!
Nice to see that the sisterhood is still supportive of someone who has lived life, doesn't seek to excuse herself or play the victim, but who owned up to her mistakes and kept working even when it was hard to do so. As for acting talent well Joan Littlewood obviously thought differently.

To be a close friend of the Krays , married Ronnie Knight , has five abortions and blames her father for it , doubt Mrs Sid James thought her a nice person who just lived life without being pious

Lots of men in the world of show business and politics were far more friendly and involved with the Krays and other gangsters than BW. But she's a woman and women have to be pilloried for their mistakes don't they? Which Mrs Sid James were you referring to? There were 3 and lots of other women as well.

No matter how women James married, Windsor had an affair with him , affairs may ve acceptable to you but not to me . This thread is about
Windsor, she chose the Krays as friends, she chose to marry .knight

Sid James had many affairs. He was notorious for it Annie, BW was just one of many. It takes two you know, you can't blame the woman for everything. And everyone was friends with the Krays including some very high up politicians who were older and much more experienced and who should certainly have known better. I think the Krays chose who they wanted to know rather than the other way round. Not people you would say 'no' to.

But this is not about men and affairs Trisha, it is Babara Windsor and her affairs, I have not said it's fine for men to hsve affair, but you spoke of sisterhood, well this applies to her too, where was sisterhood with her . It is not pious to condemn affairs, they bring suffering and so much hurt . I think blame lies with the two parties involved

Having once met her step mum and hearing about her treatment of her dad from the opposite side I wasn't impressed with her as a person Besides that I found her intensely irritating so didn't want to watch a programme about her It just amazes me sometimes the people who are given honours

I was baffled when she was made a Dame, Maggie Smith yes, but for being in a soap for some years. She is a strong Tory supporter and donates

Started to watch the programme but then switched off. Nowhere near as good as Cilla.
If just being around for a long time is a qualification for an honour then it's more than time for Joanna Lumley to be made a Dame - if only for her work for the Gherkas.

Sparklefizz Mon 15-May-17 10:24:13

Joanna Lumley can't act either, in my opinion. It does seem nowadays that getting old means you're owed an honour! smile

Arguably she has earned lots of money for the state over the years with the sales of the Carry On films. She has made loads of other films and appeared in many plays everything from Shakespeare to Joe Orton. Her work on Eastenders was just part of a long career. Don't like her, don't like her politics, but she hasn't tried to whitewash her past and she has worked hard. Credit where it is due.
