I watched this programme tonight and its the best TV I've seen in ages. Well acted and wonderful story. Can highly recommend if you have catch up.

Arguably she has earned lots of money for the state over the years with the sales of the Carry On films. She has made loads of other films and appeared in many plays everything from Shakespeare to Joe Orton. Her work on Eastenders was just part of a long career. Don't like her, don't like her politics, but she hasn't tried to whitewash her past and she has worked hard. Credit where it is due.

Joanna Lumley can't act either, in my opinion. It does seem nowadays that getting old means you're owed an honour! smile

threexnanny Mon 15-May-17 09:56:00

Started to watch the programme but then switched off. Nowhere near as good as Cilla.
If just being around for a long time is a qualification for an honour then it's more than time for Joanna Lumley to be made a Dame - if only for her work for the Gherkas.

Anniebach Mon 15-May-17 08:59:02

I was baffled when she was made a Dame, Maggie Smith yes, but for being in a soap for some years. She is a strong Tory supporter and donates

BlueBelle Mon 15-May-17 06:45:15

Having once met her step mum and hearing about her treatment of her dad from the opposite side I wasn't impressed with her as a person Besides that I found her intensely irritating so didn't want to watch a programme about her It just amazes me sometimes the people who are given honours

Anniebach Sun 14-May-17 23:13:47

But this is not about men and affairs Trisha, it is Babara Windsor and her affairs, I have not said it's fine for men to hsve affair, but you spoke of sisterhood, well this applies to her too, where was sisterhood with her . It is not pious to condemn affairs, they bring suffering and so much hurt . I think blame lies with the two parties involved

trisher Sun 14-May-17 23:04:00

Sid James had many affairs. He was notorious for it Annie, BW was just one of many. It takes two you know, you can't blame the woman for everything. And everyone was friends with the Krays including some very high up politicians who were older and much more experienced and who should certainly have known better. I think the Krays chose who they wanted to know rather than the other way round. Not people you would say 'no' to.

Anniebach Sun 14-May-17 19:06:54

No matter how women James married, Windsor had an affair with him , affairs may ve acceptable to you but not to me . This thread is about
Windsor, she chose the Krays as friends, she chose to marry .knight

trisher Sun 14-May-17 18:21:43

Lots of men in the world of show business and politics were far more friendly and involved with the Krays and other gangsters than BW. But she's a woman and women have to be pilloried for their mistakes don't they? Which Mrs Sid James were you referring to? There were 3 and lots of other women as well.

Anniebach Sun 14-May-17 18:06:19

To be a close friend of the Krays , married Ronnie Knight , has five abortions and blames her father for it , doubt Mrs Sid James thought her a nice person who just lived life without being pious

trisher Sun 14-May-17 17:25:19

Oh thank goodness for" the type that give all women a bad name" what a boring pious lot we would be without them!
Nice to see that the sisterhood is still supportive of someone who has lived life, doesn't seek to excuse herself or play the victim, but who owned up to her mistakes and kept working even when it was hard to do so. As for acting talent well Joan Littlewood obviously thought differently.

paddyann Sun 14-May-17 17:14:18

cant stand the woman, she's the type that gives all women a bad name .If she's in any programme I'll turn it off.I read about her multiple affairs, the gangsters and abortions years ago and decided she wasn't my kind of person.Maybe if she's been a half decent actress it would have been different but she seemed to be a very self centred person who didn't care who got damaged along the way .And then she gets an "honour" ....??

DanniRae Sun 14-May-17 17:05:57

Not a fan so didn't watch it.

trisher Tue 09-May-17 20:50:13

I am not a fan of BW but I watched I and found it fascinating. Her early career was so successful. It was funny watching her trying to cope with Joan Littlewood and her innovative rehearsals. JL certainly rated her and considered she had talent. No doubt some things were glossed over but she didn't white wash herself completely. I enjoyed it.

Elrel Tue 09-May-17 19:29:28

I went to the original Fings Ain't What They Used to Be, enjoyed the whole production immensely. I remember sitting up in my seat when a tiny blonde alone on the stage squawked out 'Where do little birds go in the wintertime?' She looked so forlorn that I was moved to tears.

grannylyn65 Tue 09-May-17 19:25:27

Quite!

Anniebach Mon 08-May-17 12:20:05

I can't listen to her, that irritating giggle

Sparklefizz Mon 08-May-17 11:22:44

I find her very annoying too and think she has very little talent and can't act.

Eloethan Mon 08-May-17 10:42:40

She is not a person I like or admire - in fact I find her very annoying - so I didn't bother to watch it.

KatyK Mon 08-May-17 10:18:53

I liked it smile I saw her once, she was lovely and friendly.

TerriBull Mon 08-May-17 09:59:56

I didn't watch it, I found Barbara Windsor extremely irritating when I was growing up, the inane giggle and the fact that her bust was so "in your face", a bit like an early day Katie Price. She made me feel uncomfortable, particularly that awful clip where her bikini top comes flying off during an exercise class. My younger self would cringe. By the time she became the matriarch in Eastenders I was over all that, not that I've watched EE for donkeys years. I'm not wild about Jamie Winstone so all in all it wasn't for me.

Angela1961 Mon 08-May-17 09:09:36

I quite enjoyed it, but on programs such as that one, spend half the time explaining to the oh what's happening and who is who. Why do men not get it ?

PRINTMISS Mon 08-May-17 09:06:03

I quite enjoyed it, against my expectations. Yes it was slow, and no I do not think it was really 'true to life' however, I liked the way it was done, with Barbara looking at herself growing up. Let's face it she will always be known as the busty blonde, but in all honesty, with the very little talent she has, she hasn't done too badly, and continues to polish her own star.

Anniebach Mon 08-May-17 08:33:28

Cannot blame her fsther for her choice of friends or affairs,

Greenfinch Mon 08-May-17 07:56:09

I liked the part when she was a child but not the rest. I found the interaction with her father somewhat artificial. However it needs a sequel for her later years.
