Anyone watching Replacement I found it slow going with far too much involvement with the business side of the story I didn't feel any great connection with the characters but I m sure it's much too early to judge and I ll. stick with it the ending was scarey, I jumped

It took me a while to get the husbands sorted out. They all look the same.

BlueBelle Wed 08-Mar-17 05:41:32

I m not loving it but I m not hating it either I m not finding it totally believable The police bit for sure it takes a murder to get the police out here .... the Cerise stuff what's that all about

Bit of a theory. Cariss has been seen on her FB page, just a photo. Looked like her mum was answering the friend request on her behalf. Fast forward and "Cariss" arrives in the office looking nothing like the picture on FB. Cariss always seems to be on a sleep over when there are visitors. Is there actually a Cariss, maybe something happened to the child which deeply affected her mother. Am probably totally wrong.

Alima I was thinking something similar. I think Caris exists, but she's not Paula's daughter. Paula looked teary and stressed when confronted by Ellen at her house. I think she (Paula) may have lost a child, or something like that. I believe Paula to be unstable mentally, but I don't think she's the villain. I think there'll be a twist, involving Ellen's husband.

I though last night's was better.

I don't think Morven Christie is as convincing an actor as McClure, and it shows.

Mm bit far fetched as far as the post baby recovery and breast feeding goes. Not to mention the 2 social workers who only seemed to want to talk to her not see the baby. Where is the health visitor? In fact she's superwoman isn't she? Driving around, full make up, no baby sick or poo anywhere. You can tell it's written by a man.

Christinefrance Wed 08-Mar-17 08:46:00

I enjoyed it and looking forward to the denouement.

PRINTMISS Wed 08-Mar-17 09:59:18

Despite all the flaws I am enjoying it, interesting to find out what happens next week, must admit the husbands are a bit confusing, it is all this beard wearing the men do these days, perhaps they are all trying to hide.

ninathenana Wed 08-Mar-17 09:59:23

I decided Caris dosen't exist when we saw Paula answering the text message.
I'm wondering if the reason Paula is the way she is, is because Caris died and maybe she feels she failed as a mother in some way.

felice Wed 08-Mar-17 10:26:38

I have not been watching this, but as a light aside, my Cable provider has been advertising it as The Replacements which appears to be a childrens cartoon show, very confusing.

Karanlouise Wed 08-Mar-17 15:01:11

I'm enjoying it, still think Ellen's husband may be involved in some way, agree that Caris either doesn't exist or has died. Next weeks looks good. smile

Karanlouise Wed 08-Mar-17 15:03:46

Maybe it's all in Ellen's mind and she is the badie. ?

gettingonabit Wed 08-Mar-17 15:36:50

karan I was wondering that, too! Ellen seems quite unhinged, and paranoid. Could Paula be a figment of her imagination?

Cherrytree59 Wed 08-Mar-17 15:44:59

Ellen lost my sympathy when she left her baby in the car.

Could that have only been written by a man.?

Waiting for the answer to the lipstick.

Karanlouise Wed 08-Mar-17 16:04:36

Now that would be a good twist gettingonabit. Agree cherrytree59 about the baby in the car, maybe someone planted the lipstick. All very intriguing I think. smile

gettingonabit Wed 08-Mar-17 17:07:56

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm finding some of the characters confusing ie looking alike. I'm finding the two husbands looking similar, the MIL and the murdered boss woman looking similar, and there's a striking resemblance between Ellen's sister Rianne, the office manager whose name escapes me, and Georgia! Is it me?

Even Ellen and Paula look a bit alike. Apart from Paula's psycho stare...

Karanlouise Wed 08-Mar-17 17:18:10

I agree gettingonabit, but I do find this happens quite often and I end up focusing on who is who rather than the plot. Then I have to rewind and watch again to find out what's going on. At first I thought the mother in law was the murdered bosses mother or a relation of some sort last night as there was such a resemblance. smile

gretel Wed 08-Mar-17 18:00:32

Caris was in the first episode outside the office in the car with her dad, waiting to pick up Paula. Ten years is a long time to be away from work (apart from a few small projects.)

gettingonabit Wed 08-Mar-17 21:28:26

I've just watched it again saddo.

As regards the lipstick: it was red and Paula wore pink throughout.

I don't think it was hers.

The relationship between Ellen and David is a bit....huggy. hmm

BlueBelle Thu 09-Mar-17 06:05:30

I too often have problems like this and thought it was me getting face blind as I got older but I often find faces look so similar that I spend time working out who is who and I lose the plot a bit
What with that and sound blurs it's a wonder I watch anything LOL

gettingonabit Thu 09-Mar-17 08:30:37

I'm wondering if the similarity is part of the plot.

I think there MAY be a connection between the dead boss Kay and Ellen's MIL, though. Something about mother figures maybe?

I couldn't sleep last night thinking about this programme!

I'm still trying to figure out why Kay called Ellen to the site that night. She'd already warned her off on health and safety grounds.

Talking of which, why wasn't there an investigation? Irl the HSE would have been crawling all over the site and probably shut it down.

Perhaps Kay meant some kind of harm to Ellen, hence calling her to the site? Maybe Ellen was indeed having an affair with her husband?

I'm overthinking this again, aren't I?

rosesarered Thu 09-Mar-17 10:35:12

That's why this is such a good thriller, it gets you thinking all sorts of things.
Paula is certainly hiding a lot of secrets but that doesn't mean that she murdered Kay at the library site.
If Kay had really called Ellen would the police not have found that call?
Nobody has actually asked exactly what Kay said, and although somebody asked Ellen about it, Ellen did not tell them what Kay said to her.
I think there are three different things going on, Ellen is over suspicious, has past mental problems and is very upset about Paula being maybe better than her at the job.
Paula has lost a child, has mental problems and wants the whole world to like her and needs to succeed.
Somebody did push Kay to her death, and David is having an affair with somebody.

rosesarered Thu 09-Mar-17 10:36:34

All of which could be quite wrong!grin

Karanlouise Fri 10-Mar-17 10:56:06

Loving all these different opinions and possibilities, i agree rosesarered that's why it's a good thriller. Looking forward to finding out what happens. Have a lovely day everyone.smile

angelab Fri 10-Mar-17 11:36:02

rosesarered I agree, I was thinking that all through the program - surely the fact that Kay said she had finally found out what was going on was a reason to suspect foul play?!

Anya Fri 10-Mar-17 17:41:23

The 'daughter' is the clue....Paula's.
