Anyone looking forward to this? I've just finished the book-it was thoroughly gripping.

Can't wait! Sunday night at 9pm.

Jalima grin
He reminds me of another actor but of course I can't remember who. He must have quite small feet!!! wink

Lona Mon 23-Jan-17 16:15:01

mama was getting a dentist in that?

Lona Mon 23-Jan-17 16:15:31

Was he a dentist? hmm

gettingonabit Mon 23-Jan-17 16:17:34

wills I agree with your observations. There's poignancy to the story. Yvonne has given everything she has to life-she's brought up kids, she's achieved highly, she's built a marriage to a faithless husband. She's done everything expected of her. Why shouldn't she have sex in a broom cupboard with a mysterious stranger? Why shouldn't she have a bit of fun for a change? Who's it harming?

If Yvonne were a bloke her actions would be written off as a mid-life crisis. If she were a young woman we'd be saying "good for her-go girl!".

Why is it different if a subject is middle aged and female, with a jelly belly?

Jalima I've just been watching Endeavour. The male lead in ATY reminds me of a younger version of Morse and Ins. Thursday's boss. The one who was in hospital last night.
Yes, the husband is much more appealing smile

Lazigirl Mon 23-Jan-17 17:11:25

Yvonne said sex with sleazy bloke was like being eaten by a wolf.......really, I can think of more pleasant experiences. Haven't read the book but what kept me watching was why she ended up in the doc so will have to continue to find out.

HildaW Mon 23-Jan-17 17:19:28

I gave this 5 minutes.....but he is just such a repellent little creep....no appeal there whatsoever.
Someone would have to be in the George Clooney mould to have me from coffee shop queue to 'want to see the crypt'....and then a furtive snog in a broom cupboard. Just not at all believable to me.

Jalima Mon 23-Jan-17 17:30:27

gettingonabit I'm not tut-tutting about a middle-aged woman having extra-marital sex (I should've been so lucky) - just what Kirsty and Phil would call Location, Location, Location grin
and he is a repellent little creep as HildaW says

As I said, I wouldn't mind the husband .....
but not in a broom cupboard with his foot in a bucket

I have seen online that someone likens him to George Osborne - I thought a gone-wrong Antonio Banderas with the emphasis on the 'gone-wrong' because AB is gorgeous.

Jalima Mon 23-Jan-17 17:31:38

sorry gettonabit I should have highlighted you not italicized you

Jalima Mon 23-Jan-17 17:33:00

I have recorded Endeavour

Jalima Mon 23-Jan-17 17:36:11

hope he's not reading this, he is probably lovely in RL, just the part he is playing and the way they have made him look

Riverwalk Mon 23-Jan-17 18:10:09

Hilda it was more than a furtive snog in a broom cupboard. If in your book that's a snog I don't know what passes for rampant sex!

I lost it with the mop bucket grin

Apple Tree Yard is a real alleyway - there'll be coach tours soon.

BlueBelle Mon 23-Jan-17 18:47:36

The foot in bucket did it for me too how did they keep it going with that rattling in unison to each thrust
It was most unbelievable to me and I didn't like the characters i didn't connect with them .....The husband was much nicer I agree
I m also in agreement with Hunt I found the dialogue a bit indistinguishable I m not deaf and don't have problems with other programmes
I ll give it another episode but so far disappointed

gangy5 Mon 23-Jan-17 22:11:37

Yawn, yawn --too many pregnant pauses and a most unattractive love interest.

Brummiegran Tue 24-Jan-17 07:47:53

I watched this last night and read through all three pages waiting for someone, anyone to mention the scene at the end. I know people don't want spoliers but to me it was shocking and unnecessarily graphic. I had nightmares!

BlueBelle Tue 24-Jan-17 08:30:40

I only get nightmares about things I believe in so didn't give me any ?

henetha Tue 24-Jan-17 10:25:27

Well, I liked it.

Riverwalk Tue 24-Jan-17 10:51:18

Brummie I was expecting the end scene, or something like it, as before broadcast there was a specific warning of scenes of 'a sexual nature' and 'sexual violence'.

There was no violence between the lovers so I knew something would go wrong before the end.

I very nearly didn't watch after that warning as still feeling a bit sick at the domestic violence in Call The Midwife.

gettingonabit Tue 24-Jan-17 11:53:02

I think the rape scene was well done. The blank bits of screen during the attack gave a suggestion of violence without being too graphic. The violence in the book is much, much worse.

Gemmag Tue 24-Jan-17 12:09:54

There was "no sexual chemistry between them". Someone actually said that!!..
This is all about subterfuge, illicit meetings and above all sexual passion.
Sex is not all about "lyning on your back and thinking of England".
Yvonne is married to a very boring man who is I suspect is cheating on her and she has fallen for a man who makes her feel alive again. We have all heard of 'crimes of passion' and this is going to be one of the best!.
They do actually happen in real life O. J Simpson/Nicole Brown being just one.
Apple agree Yard is going to end in tears I'm afraid and someone's going to die but who's it going to be?. My money's on her colleague.

Greyduster Tue 24-Jan-17 12:37:58

I still can't get my head around how a middle aged intelligent woman not under the influence of drink can meet a strange man and then five minutes later be engrossed in illicit unprotected sex in a broom cupboard with him. Would she lack self-respect and common sense to such an extent or am I missing something confused?

HildaW Tue 24-Jan-17 12:48:03

Riverwalk....I had turned it off before it had got to that point....as I'd said he had just come over as creepy and deeply unattractive.

Its not that I do not get the idea that women can fall under the spell of attractive and manipulative men and loose all inhibitions and have a mad fling/affair/whatever you want to call it....far from it in fact as I found myself very tempted once but that's just between you ,me and the gate post. I just really felt the actor and his character in the initial stages came over as deeply unattractive.

LadyGracie Tue 24-Jan-17 13:34:23

I think I sat most of the way through it with my mouth open, are there really people who do that sort of thing, I move in the wrong circles! It was very slow but I will carry on watching as I need to know why she was in the dock

Lona Tue 24-Jan-17 18:58:08

Gemmag , I said there was no sexual chemistry between them, meaning the actors not the characters.

Fairydoll2030 Tue 24-Jan-17 19:26:51

In the sex scenes he seemed to be groping about halfway down her chest, goodness knows where his willy private bits were. He mostly looked like an adolescent having sex for the first time.

As someone else mentioned, the dialogue was barely distinguishable at times.

I expect I will watch it again if only to find out who she topped, if indeed she did.
