Watching it
but can't say I'm enjoying it sad

Ana Mon 26-Dec-16 22:03:07

Same here - not pleasant viewing at all and I won't be watching the second part.

Luckygirl Mon 26-Dec-16 22:07:08

I thought it was a superb production with terrific acting. It was much better than the rather superficial pantomime-like productions that we usually see.

Luckygirl Mon 26-Dec-16 23:00:04

.....of Agatha Christie.

NonnaW Mon 26-Dec-16 23:18:05

Really really wanted to watch this but stupid sky box playing up yet again so I gave up and will watch on catch up.

ninathenana Tue 27-Dec-16 00:42:04

I'm feeling pretty indifferent about tonight's episode. I will watch tomorrow as H will want to see it.

Marmark1 Tue 27-Dec-16 09:00:37

I thought it was very good, can't wait for tonight

Niobe Tue 27-Dec-16 09:10:46

Could not understand why every scene looked as if it was filmed in fog. In one scene I counted 7 lamps and it still looked dull and I bet Agatha Christie never wrote the swear words or the sex scenes. An hour of my life wasted!

joannapiano Tue 27-Dec-16 09:10:50

I am not really a fan of A Christie, but we are enjoying this production based on one of her short stories.
The maid is really creepy.
DH usually guesses the culprit(ex-police!) but not in this case.

Takingthemick Tue 27-Dec-16 09:11:01

Awful. Thought I was going blind.

Iam64 Tue 27-Dec-16 09:32:14

I switched off before 30 mins because I found it dire. The moody smoke fog filled filming was ok initially but I began to wonder if my specs needed cleaning. I'd read that the production had been 'sexed up' but I just found it too far from the original AC. I won't bother watching the 2nd one and in fact, this production just added to my general disappointment with tv over the Christmas period. Back to box sets.

Anya Tue 27-Dec-16 09:33:31

I'm quite enjoying this.

Maidmarion Tue 27-Dec-16 09:39:03

I, too, thought I was losing my sight.... Soooooo gloooomy (and in more ways than one!!). Shame, I'd been looking forward to it! Don't know why it was filmed in such a way that we could hardly make out what was going on. Yes, a bit of 'fog' would add to the atmosphere but it was way too dark for me!

PRINTMISS Tue 27-Dec-16 11:42:02

I enjoyed it, but agree about the smokey atmosphere, in fact we are fed up with the truly 'dark' pictures we keep having. I think it all start with "?something Hall" and has continued since then, the speaking is getting little better - there was a time when that was awful, but now, if we have dark films, mumbled dialogue and accents, then the pleasure of watching a good production is lost. I know it is all supposed to add to the atmosphere, but not if you can't see it!

gettingonabit Tue 27-Dec-16 12:04:18

I'm enjoying it so far, and like it far more than the usual silly romp that is an Agatha Christie production. Come to think of it, And Then There Were None was quite good too. --nothing at all to do with Aidan Turner in a towel--wink.

gettingonabit Tue 27-Dec-16 12:04:51

Oops..strikethru failblush.

Welshwife Tue 27-Dec-16 12:18:09

We find that we need to put the subtitles on more and more with mumbled dialogue, low volume speech and sometimes accents. Agree about some dark scenes too - they last too long if you cannot make out what is going on.
I thought the production was good - I think the maid is guilty because she is so awful and is trying so hard to incriminate the man and maybe she thought she would be left some money.

callgirl1 Tue 27-Dec-16 12:52:16

I think I preferred the film with Charles Laughton, Tyrone Power and Marlene Dietrich.

Mumsy Tue 27-Dec-16 13:44:28

watched the first 15 mins of it, what a load of rubbish! have to say I didnt realise it was an Agathe Christie if I had I wouldnt have bothered!

Anya Tue 27-Dec-16 13:59:02

No, it wasn't a 'load of rubbish' it just wasn't your cup of tea Mumsy, which is of course quite acceptable. We all have different tastes but I think you'll find that others who didn't enjoy it were more objective.

Luckygirl Tue 27-Dec-16 14:36:08

I think the dark smoky atmosphere was there to reflect the reality of London at the time.

Anya Tue 27-Dec-16 14:39:55

London smogs.

Grannyknot Tue 27-Dec-16 14:43:38

At first husband tried to adjust the telly... then once we realised the fuzziness was intentional declared it not up to scratch for HD smile.

From the 15 minutes we did watch, I said "It's the maid".

Sparklefizz Tue 27-Dec-16 17:25:43

I think Romaine, the girlfriend, did it. I think she found out he was sleeping with the wealthy widow and was jealous. It wasn't for the money as neither he nor she knew the will had been changed. Anyway, episode 2 tonight .....

Marmark1 Tue 27-Dec-16 17:31:15

I agree about the smog, but I think if you had stayed with it, you might have enjoyed it.
I too think the maid,we'll see.
