Apologies if this bothers grannylyn but it seems 2016 has not given up on claiming our great comic actors.
RIP Andrew Sachs

I agree, part of another era. I would happily sit through the Fawlty Towers series yet again I loved it all so much.

seacliff Fri 02-Dec-16 09:45:12

Oh sad, I loved him as Manuel - and he seemed such a gentle man.

Veda Fri 02-Dec-16 10:32:31

He was 86.

grandMattie Fri 02-Dec-16 10:35:43

and he had vascular dementia.
Nevertheless, he was very funny and by the sounds of it, a very nice man indeed.
Condolences to the family and RIP Andrew

DaphneBroon Fri 02-Dec-16 10:37:44

He was 86
And?

Venus Fri 02-Dec-16 11:08:36

Lovely man . . . will be sorely missed. 2016 has claimed so many talented people.

Luckygirl Fri 02-Dec-16 11:10:48

Poor man had dementia - let us hope it was not related to being battered round the head by Cleese. He was a great actor and made that part his own. RIP.

Jalima Fri 02-Dec-16 11:40:28

He was in many plays, films, series over the years including that lovely film Quartet, but of course will always be remembered as Manuel in Fawlty Towers - which only ran for 12 episodes but which made such an impact.

RIP Andrew Sachs

Alima Fri 02-Dec-16 11:45:09

He was so funny as Manuel. May he RIP. (Hearing his name did remind me what those two so-called comedians put him and his family through a few years ago. Appalling way to behave.)

ninathenana Fri 02-Dec-16 12:06:59

I never liked F T just not my humour. Though he was a good actor.
Interesting thought luckygirl sad
R.I.P. Andrew

Pick on someone your own size!

DaphneBroon Fri 02-Dec-16 12:30:34

Where did that come from and what are you implying?

Christinefrance Fri 02-Dec-16 12:30:35

I loved Farty Towels too, my daughters can remember lots of the dialogue from the show it made such an impression on them. There were not many episodes made if I remember for it to be such a huge hit.
Andrew Sachs was a lovely man unlike the horrible Brand & Ross.
RIP Andrew

DaphneBroon Fri 02-Dec-16 12:31:15

5'2" if it is of any relevance.

sunseeker Fri 02-Dec-16 12:54:06

Very talented man - much more to him than Manuel. I have never forgiven Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross for the "prank" and refuse to watch or listen to anything which either of them are in.

Nelliemoser Fri 02-Dec-16 13:02:07

I never liked FT either. It was really not my cup of tea. along with "Little Britain" They both smacked of being spiteful.
Nothing against Andrew Sachs though, another one bites the dust.

Juggernaut Fri 02-Dec-16 13:18:23

"Que"?
R.I.P. Andrew.

Craftycat Fri 02-Dec-16 13:53:32

My DGC all love Fawlty Towers & we often watch it together as we have it on DVDs. Lovely to have something all ages can appreciate together.
I loved it but then I liked Little Britain too!

Yorkshiregel Fri 02-Dec-16 14:33:30

Yes, such a shame he has now gone. Still he will be with his old mates and they must all be having a fantastic time in Heaven!

sarahellenwhitney Fri 02-Dec-16 14:33:46

NellieMoser It is about choice. The humour in FT was what we could allow our kids to watch unlike todays idea of humour which appears to rely on the F word and reference to ones private parts to get laughs.Sad.
As for R. Brand and his pal J R I feel nothing but pity as they have yet to grow up and grow out of their behind the school bike shed humour. RIP Manuel.

Yorkshiregel Fri 02-Dec-16 14:34:48

Jonathan Woss and Russle Brant? Who are they?

Yorkshiregel Fri 02-Dec-16 14:39:14

Charleygirl, if you get the Gold Channel all the oldies are on there. FT included.

RIP Mr Sachs. Lovely person.

Did you know he was a Jewish refugee during WWII and came to England with his Mum and Dad? If his family read this he was well loved here!

nanaK54 Fri 02-Dec-16 14:49:20

"I know nothing"

RIP

So sad to read the news this morning

leemw711 Fri 02-Dec-16 15:06:50

I've lost so many favourite actors recently, how sad. Andrew Sachs was a man who had escaped a difficult childhood in Nazi Germany and became a brilliant comic actor. Faulty Towers is probably the funniest TV comedy ever and he will be sorely missed by his fans...my thoughts are with his family today.
