Well maybe I'm not the right demographic or simply musically and poetically illiterate, but I have never "got" Leonard Cohen. Am I the only one?

hildajenniJ Fri 11-Nov-16 09:22:16

I was one of Leonard's biggest fans, but he didn't know. Thank you for Hallelujah Daphne, it brought a tear to my eye. Rest in Peace Leonard Cohen.

Not my cup of tea either. The master of the dreary dirge.

trisher Fri 11-Nov-16 09:56:17

Oh no! The tracks to so many late night chats after evenings out and parties in my youth. Thank you Leonard for music and words that touched my soul. Suzanne will still feed someone tea and oranges, and the Sisters of Mercy are not departed, they live on after you. RIP

RIP Leonard, loved his music.

For a kid from rural Switzerland, waking up to Cohen singing Suzanne at the Isle of Wight was just magical. I'll never forget ... and still can't listen to that song without tears in my eyes.

Why are people so hell bent on being first to announce a persons demise??

henetha Fri 11-Nov-16 10:17:09

I found his songs and his voice mesmerising. He will be missed by many.

Anniebach Fri 11-Nov-16 10:18:35

Why not? Why are some people so hell bent on nit picking ?

Anniebach Fri 11-Nov-16 10:19:47

RIP and thank you for the words and music

DaphneBroon Fri 11-Nov-16 10:41:57

What is your problem grannylyn, does a "respectable" period of time to elapse before one is allowed to pay tribute to a leading musician of our time?
How long do you suggest? A day, or longer? hmm

Grannaby Fri 11-Nov-16 10:50:22

Oh the hours I spent listening to his music in my teens and feeling more and more depressed, but loving it!!!

EllenT Fri 11-Nov-16 10:55:20

The soundtrack to my youth and many later years. RIP Leonard.

jenn Fri 11-Nov-16 11:09:09

nanaK54 Fri 11-Nov-16 12:39:43

Another fan here RIP

Nvella Fri 11-Nov-16 12:48:31

What an awful year this has been. Started playing his music in 1968 and he has also been the soundtrack to my life. I am so pleased that I saw him twice during his most recent tours and they were among the best experiences of my life - a lovely, talented man

SueDonim Fri 11-Nov-16 15:31:41

I've loved Leonard Cohen since forever, it feels, and I was lucky enough to see him in concert three years ago. When you examine his songs there is much humour and wry comment on life in them. He 'gets' the human condition.

I don't understand the comment above about announcing a person's demise. Someone has to be first, surely, unless we're to be kept in the dark? confused

Bluecat Fri 11-Nov-16 15:33:18

RIP, Leonard. I loved him so much. Evidently he saw the way the world is going, and decided it was time to leave.

TerriBull Fri 11-Nov-16 15:56:48

I've loved Leonard Cohen's music for such a long time, particularly Suzanne. One of my sons is also a great fan and was lucky enough to meet him and told me he was as wonderful as his music. Another great artist gone in 2016, his legacy will live on.

paddyann Fri 11-Nov-16 15:57:20

I've listened to his music sinnce my teens ,love all his albumms and just ordered his latest yesterday .Nothing to beat a low lit room a glass of red and some Leonard Cohen on the hifi .I have his sons albums too ,Marc Cohen, and the appple hasn't fallen far from the tree.I know his music isn't everyones style ,I have a friend who calls it music to slit your wrists too,but I believe the man is on the the 20th centuriies greatest poets annd lyricists

Rinouchka Fri 11-Nov-16 16:32:14

So agree paddyann. A true poet . Much more so than Bob Dylan ( although I like him as well).

Cherrytree59 Fri 11-Nov-16 17:26:14

paddyann bit confused
I know there is a Marc Cohen, but Leonard Cohen's son is called Adam.

Candlefran Fri 11-Nov-16 17:28:54

I thought he was a completely different person to what he turns out to be.
