Its no use I simply don't see the attractiveness of Aiden Turner as Ross Poldark. He just looks grumpy and a bit smelly most of the time. I like George Warleggan but only because he was such a splendid Freddy Threepwood in the Blandings series.

Well! How very..........shock

I wouldn't like to be him if Demelza finds out! Ooer, she just has!

DaphneBroon Sun 23-Oct-16 21:58:30

hmm
Not well done, Ross and Elizabeth.
There is such a thing as wanting your cake and eating it.
Well done Demelza, though, that's a great right hook!

Am I the only one noticing a distinct similarity between George Warleggan and Rob Titchener?

fiorentina51 Sun 23-Oct-16 22:15:48

Exactly what I was thinking, Merlotgran!

Bellanonna Sun 23-Oct-16 22:24:34

Well done indeed, Demelza.

Jalima Sun 23-Oct-16 22:43:33

Best bit of the series so far (when Demelza floored him I mean!)

Like the OP, I can't see the attraction myself, they are both welcome to him!

DaphneBroon Sun 23-Oct-16 22:44:51

You can imagine the line in the book
"And reader, I decked him!" grin

Daphne grin!
Got me thinking about how difficult it must have been for women in those days. If I was Demelza I'd have packed and gone taking the boy with me, no chance in those days though. Also Elizabeth stuck in that big house too trapped to be able to do anything but accept marriage.

Is it just me thinking this series is very unsatisfying and a bit boring? No one is having any good luck and there is no joy or happiness. No.sparkle, just more and / more misery. At least in Dickensian we get light and shade. The only light is from galloping over the cliffs. However I love the old aunt, she makes me titter with her dark musings and tarot.

I was googling and was reminded that Caroline was played by Sally Gleeson in the last series. The two beautiful actresses have something of the same look to me. Both quite stunning and special.

Jane10 Mon 24-Oct-16 09:54:39

I agree Lully. If there is a third series I don't think I'll bother to watch it. The ITV offering on at the same time has been excellent:Victoria and now Tutenkamun are so well done.

Deedaa Mon 24-Oct-16 20:55:58

It seems to lack the humour that made the original series so enjoyable.

Luckygirl Mon 24-Oct-16 21:15:22

Demelza seems to be addicted to hanging out washing. Naughty Ross. Oh dear.

merlotgran Mon 24-Oct-16 21:52:37

I loved the scene where they pass little Jeremy around because they're all too distracted to look after him and he ends up with Jud.

He's a bit more strapping than the book describes him.

Judthepud2 Mon 24-Oct-16 22:18:53

The first few Poldark books are dark. We are left in no doubt about how hard life was for those with no wealth. Life in Cornwall is portrayed as a constant struggle against poverty and the elements. I find the series very close to the original text, with Aiden Turner much more like Poldark is described than the clean and tidy Robin Ellis.

For those complaining of being bored, the complications of the relationships in the plot are only just beginning!

And the star of the show for me is undoubtedly the Cornish countryside. Never been there. Want to go!

Looking at the RT online today, it would seem that there were a lot of complaints about the "rape" scene last night! shock

Mr P and I watched it, and have discussed it today with reference to the article, and both feel that it wasn't rape.

Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, perhaps others viewed it differently, well, obviously some did, if complaints were made confused

kittylester Tue 25-Oct-16 07:31:32

I'm not going to argue Phoenix. I don't think it was rape but conveyed the scene in the book well. I loved Robin Ellis's portrayal of Ross but think Aiden Turner's Ross is even better. blush

LullyDully Tue 25-Oct-16 08:01:35

Think it started with her resisting but she gave in pretty fast imo.

DaphneBroon Tue 25-Oct-16 08:10:09

If it is to remain true to the book - it cannot be politically correct in modern terms. A bodice-ripper is just that.
No , she resisted for a coupe of nanoseconds then swooned into his arms and - cue music, waves breaking on the shore, camera pans upwards and suddenly it's next morning, her makeup is immaculate and his horse has not eaten all the rose bushes under the window.

Judthepud2 Tue 25-Oct-16 12:13:56

Daphne thlgrin

POGS Tue 25-Oct-16 14:18:45

I don't think it was a rape scene either, apparently 17 people did and complained to Ofcom. Mind you some people would complain for the hell of complaining, they seem to enjoy complaining.

I don't find Aidan Turner half as attractive as the doctor, he is gert lush in my opinion.

Jalima Tue 25-Oct-16 14:21:12

Ooh, yes, the doctor please

Although I would be happy for DD to marry him instead of that annoying heiress so he could be my SIL

Don't find Aidan Turner attractive at all

Jalima Tue 25-Oct-16 14:24:15

Oh bugger, he's married already

gulligranny Tue 25-Oct-16 16:16:55

We didn't think it was rape either, they have been in love with each other for a long time and feelings overcame sense. The consequences might be interesting! That was quite a whack from Demelza.

I think this Poldark is truer to the books, Robin Ellis was never Ross for me. Aiden Turner certainly does it for me.

Ana Tue 25-Oct-16 16:30:38

I must say Demelza treats that child of hers very casually - he doesn't appear to recognise her and I'm not surprised. She seemed to be permanently attached to Julia!

nigglynellie Tue 25-Oct-16 16:47:40

I love it and having lived near Penzance when first married, I love Cornwall too. No it wasn't rape! Just uncontrolled passion for both of them! Her slight resistance was only a pang of conscience which soon got thrown to the wind!! I thought it was brilliant!!!! I know it all looked too clean and tidy the next morning, and the horse?!! but even so!! I loved it the first time round and was prepared not to like this version, but how wrong can you be!!
