I was so looking forward to the new series of Endeavour because I really enjoyed the previous ones. I found last night's plot unbelievable, and since I'd forgotten what had happened in the last series to cause Morse to end up in prison I found it doubly confusing. I couldn't understand how Morse could be reinstated when he had a criminal record. Did anyone else see it, what did you think, and can you fill me in on the Morse/prison/reinstatement situation?

Did you know Greyduster that if you go onto Google and type in ITV Hub+contact us - you can ask directly why where you live is not televising ITV 1. It's worth a try. Good luck.

Greyduster Thu 21-Jan-16 09:18:07

NanKate i do have an ipad and i have ITV hub, but for some reason it keeps telling me that i can't get ITV 1 channels in my area, which is totally ridiculous. I am losing the will to live!

I am so disappointed in the Endeavour series. The story lines are absolutely daft, acting very so so and just generally awful. Can't watch it anymore. Also Father Brown and Granchester. What a shame - they just all send me to sleep.

Greyduster poor you with you box all broken. Do you have an IPad by any chance, because I have all the Catch Up apps (free) on mine and it is an easy way to see any of your missed programmes ?

Erm.....was it just me, or was the storyline taken almost completely from The Great Gatsby?

Greyduster Wed 20-Jan-16 22:06:43

Nana3, thank you for that. If it wouldn't spoil it for anyone else, i'd like to know how it ended! We have lost everything on our box and the b****y engineer is not coming to replace it for two weeks!

AyjayF Wed 20-Jan-16 17:36:26

Thank you for that, Katek.

We know from Lewis that Hathaway's father was the estate manager and his name is Philip. (Now has Alzheimer's and is in residential care) The estate worker was called Philip Hathaway.

Now you're asking hmm greyduster
I will make a start perhaps others can add a bit more.

Spoiler alert.

Thursday got off lightly as the chief superintendent covered it up saying the suspect had fallen down the stairs, or something like that. He turned out to be guilty of the first murder. Seems that he confessed because Thursday attacked him, I didn't really get that bit.

The woman who had been mauled by the tiger found out that the tiger was still alive and being kept in a cage in the woods.

It was her fault that the tiger escaped and was on a killing spree.
The end was fantastic, do you want to know it?

We were as mad as hell last night, having settled down to watch the first of the Endeavours we had taped. Three quarters of the way through, our youview box conked out, so not only could we not watch the end of the episode where everyone is getting torn to shreds by some mysterious animal (or not) but we can't watch the others either! Anyone fill me in about what happened after Inspector Thursday went bonkers and attacked the suspect in the police station?

AyjayF Wed 20-Jan-16 15:04:36

How do we know Philip is Hathaway's father? What clue did I miss?

I've only just recovered from the snow maze scene in the film the 'Shining' truly scary and now we have a tiger on the loose. LOVED IT grin

You heartless pair! grin

Love it merlotgran !

merlotgran Tue 19-Jan-16 18:40:05

I know how you felt,*Sparklefizz*. I had a fiancé who went off to Hendon police college looking like Paul McCartney and came out looking like one of the Kray twins!

It was a short engagement grin

Jalima Tue 19-Jan-16 18:15:01

Young estate worker Phillip in Sunday's prog is Hathaway's father.
I didn't connect that at all, but I haven't been following Lewis lately.

Sparklefizz Tue 19-Jan-16 12:22:48

My fiance was a young detective in the mid 1960s and although long hair was fashionable for boys and men, every male in the police force had to have a short back and sides, so Morse would have been carted off to the barber's to have inches chopped off his hair and the clippers run up his neck. Being a shallow teenager, I was embarrassed to have a boyfriend with such short hair. smile

Charleygirl Tue 19-Jan-16 11:58:06

If I had not enjoyed Morse so much I doubt if I would have continued with Endeavour because the plots become more ludicrous as the weeks go by.

Katek Tue 19-Jan-16 11:09:05

I lost count of the body count in Sunday's episode! Was Goggins the keeper in the ramshackle hut in the woods also killed? (Unfortunate choice of name-kept thinking of Mrs Goggins from the post office in Postman Pat) I enjoy Endeavour though and like spotting links and ties to Morse and Lewis. Young estate worker Phillip in Sunday's prog is Hathaway's father.

Teetime Tue 19-Jan-16 09:16:34

I didn't enjoy the latest offering and literally lost the plot completely - a tiger- No not really.

J52 Tue 19-Jan-16 07:48:00

It was from the Bull in a China Shop range. My MIL had it. If I had been choosing something for the scene, I think I would have chosen Denby or Portmeirion.

I'm a frustrated set designer, at heart! grin

But that coffee set wasn't cheap in the 1970s. It was the very latest smart design at the time. Think the range was produced by Midwinter. Much copied by cheaper companies and now sadly sold in charity shops for pennies.

Eloethan Tue 19-Jan-16 00:20:07

I'm still a bit disappointed with it.
