Jeremy Vine is the first celebrity to be announced - will he be the first one off?

HildaW Sat 26-Sept-15 14:44:53

My only real moan though is that Len (who is supposed to represent the traditional face of Dancing) is getting ever more crude. He used to be the elder statesman figure who gave solid technical advice and comments now its all East End barrow boy comments.

rosesarered Sat 26-Sept-15 20:04:21

I agree Hilda, and it gets annoying.

WilmaKnickersfit Sat 26-Sept-15 22:02:50

Loved the show tonight! Most entertaining performances for me were Jeremy & Karen and Katie and Anton. So much fun watching them and the jokes about Anton having a good partner were funny. Some great routines from early front runners with previous dance experience too. This could be a good series. Strictly will wipe the floor when it comes to beating the X Factor in the ratings this year. It still delivers after all these years.

HildaW Daniel O'Donnell a Synth?
Do you mean like... not real... a robot ??

WilmaKnickersfit Sat 26-Sept-15 22:18:40

That's what I thought HildaW meant because the robots in the recent TV series Humans were called synths.

HildaW Sun 27-Sept-15 11:05:21

Yes....a tad robotic....his face was just 'stuck' when he was standing around, perhaps was nerves.

Loved Katie's jive, team GG was a pleasure as well as its nice to have an Italian back, Anita was impressive too. The young man from the pop group Wanted was adorable - like a 6ft toddler and his Mum was beside herself with pride.
It was a good start!

Anniebach Sun 27-Sept-15 11:13:16

I think this is going to be a great series, doubt there will be early loss of good dancers voted out so amusing but really awful dancers can be kept in

Jane10 Sun 27-Sept-15 11:17:51

Thoroughly enjoyed it. Peter Andre was good but so he should be. I prefer the ones with absolutely no experience of dancing or even moving to music it would seem in some cases!
I wondered what was happening to my feet when Jeremy Vine was "dancing" and realised that my toes were actually curling! It was toe curlingly bad and must be desperately embarrassing for his family- dad dancing in public shock. He'll no doubt stay in for weeks just for laughs.

Magrithea Sun 27-Sept-15 12:33:49

I loved Jay from the Wanted too, and his mum was in tears of pride! I hope he does well, I think all the mums will be rooting for him!!!

vickymeldrew Sun 27-Sept-15 14:16:43

Thanks Hilda - I'd knew he reminded me of someone(thing) !

Alea Sun 27-Sept-15 14:18:21

Maybe Botox (Daniel O'Donnell) ? wink

NotTooOld Sun 27-Sept-15 14:52:31

I agree, that Katie Whatsit with Anton is SOOOO annoyingly over confident. I hope she falls over next week. I've watched Strictly from the start but this year I'm sitting with the remote and turning the sound down except for the dancing. Those silly women who present it are pathetic and as for Len, well, he has become a big disappointment. I wish they wouldn't make the judges do that dancing when they come in as they all look really silly, even lovely Darcey looks just embarrassed.

petra Sun 27-Sept-15 15:37:31

I bet Carol breathed a sigh of relief when she saw Jeramy 'dad dancing' Vine.
And why do they think, if I keep grinning no one will notice that I can't dance.

NotTooOld Sun 27-Sept-15 19:24:20

petra - I think they're told they MUST keep smiling unless it's a tango when they can wear a 'tango face' - think.......er.......that chef who did the tango last night -wassisname? I'm sure when Strictly first started all the competitors were complete beginners and looked it. Nowadays you can just tell that some of them are quite good dancers already. I bet they did some dance training at drama school or wherever. That doesn't seem very fair and spoils it for the others - and me.

loopylou Sun 27-Sept-15 20:30:26

I've stopped watching it for that same reason NotTooOld. I sometimes wonder if it's outlived any novelty value, if that's the right term.
I think it's getting a bit stale and sometimes almost desperate sad

NanKate Sun 27-Sept-15 20:41:36

I haven't quite stopped watching but I fast forward now most of the inane chat, as it drove me mad Tess asking the contestants how scared they were. Of course they would be nervous, but it will only make it worse with her perpetual questioning.

I was surprised to hear that Claudia went to Cambridge Uni as I would have expected her to be a lot better in her presentation and questioning skills, a bit like Mariella Frostrup , however I know Claudia has quite a following on GN so I shall keep further comments to myself.

I think Anton would have been a good presenter, I like his humour. smile

rosesarered Sun 27-Sept-15 22:12:01

Like lots of others, I fast forward the presenters ( which remind me of two teenage schoolgirls, best mates, vying with each other for the best line) the silly dancing judges, Bruno and his Carry On routines and camp face pulling,Len and his bloody twinkle.Craig is usually the best judge, if a tad harsh ( but fair) and Darcy watchable for her frequent hair colour and style changes.
so I fast forward the start, then the dancers in training, watch the actual dance, fast forward the judges chat, see the score, and so on.
However, now the audience are annoying, clapping and whistling at every twirl, it spoils the whole routine when you just want to watch the dance and hear the music.

numberplease Sun 27-Sept-15 22:21:28

Well, I like it all, except for stupid flipping Claudia! Bring back Brucie!

NotTooOld Sun 27-Sept-15 23:21:09

Well, I suppose Claudia is better than the other one but that's not saying much. I, too, think Anton would have been a better choice for presenter.

roses - I do so agree, the stamping and whistling certainly does spoil the dancing but I bet the audience are encouraged to do that although goodness knows why. I hate it when audiences do that silly whooping as well.

God, I'm a miserable old g*t tonight.

Eloethan Mon 28-Sept-15 00:13:58

Lots of people were nasty about Bruce Forsyth - now they're laying into Claudia and Tess. I don't understand what is so awful about any of them.

NanKate Mon 28-Sept-15 07:21:59

Well Eloethan IMO they are exactly as Roses described like two giggly schoolgirls. I remember the likes of Angela Ripon who was so professional but still fun.

But this is 2015 not the 1960s and I have to admit I have not altogether moved with the times. smile

Eloethan Mon 28-Sept-15 10:16:13

It's an entertainment programme - not a documentary or a news programme. What's wrong with people being giggly?

NotTooOld Mon 28-Sept-15 14:00:38

Eloethan - perhaps you are right and some of us (including me) are being too picky. I wonder if it is a sign that Strictly has reached the end of its lifespan?

granjura Mon 28-Sept-15 16:52:10

Exactly- those series that repeat ad nauseum are getting so boring. I can't be bothered to watch this time, much to Oh's delight.

NanKate Sat 03-Oct-15 20:57:45

Well Claudia out did herself tonight - I didn't think she could get dafter, well she did this evening IMO. What was that bl**dy daft headpiece she was wearing ?

I know I should switch off if she annoys me so much.
