Strictly Come Dancing 2015
(673 Posts)Jeremy Vine is the first celebrity to be announced - will he be the first one off?
I vote now and again, when I feel strongly about someone`s performance.
I vote online which is free. You can vote 3 times, so I vote 3 times on my account and 3 times on my DH's account. He watches with me and sometimes he tells me how to use his votes. If he's not bothered then I get 6 votes!
I can't understand why people watch SCT as it is awful. I watched the first series because I thought that we would see an excellent show about people learning a new skill and have great music and lots of colour. There was music, colour and lots of talent and effort and every week a really good dancer was eliminated and a popular soap star (don't even remember who!) who couldn't dance to save his life was voted for and then WON! It was a complete travesty and I gave up on it. Why didn't they just have a popularity contest? I felt really sorry for those thrown off by the soap addicts! I put it on a par with that jungle programme which is equally dire.
I always watch Strictly but don't think I'll bother this year. I can't stand Peter Andre, don't like Daniel O'Donnell and don't get me started on Carol Kirkwood's dress, just ugly. All the morons on BBC Breakfast will be backing her but I don't like any of the so called celebrities enough to care who wins. However I agree with auntiejanie, I love Claudia Winkleman as a presenter of Strictly too!
As ever my vote, if I can get my head around the on line voting, will be for the sports person but unfortunately I can't spell his name but at least I had heard of him.
Which oneEastEndGranny there's more than one sportsperson taking part.
If they are well known or not doesn't bother me, I enjoy watching how they improve each week . I do get irritated that some are kept in because they have more fans, such as the Eastenders actors and less popular are out even though they are better dancers.
When we watched it on Saturday, we were trying to work out who the Widdicombe or Sergeant were, but decided this year there wasn't one who stood out as being the most impossible to teach. It should be more interesting this year, even though we were guessing at who some of them were.
Just a thought; if they decided to do one with unknowns, people would be complaining about that, too.
Bennan the soap star was Chris Parker and he did get to the final, but he didn't win. Newsreader Natasha Kaplinski won - thank goodness. In those days the public could vote all week with the profits going to Children In Need. Chris was young and good looking with a massive teenage fan base and their votes kept him in the competition. The voting system is very different now.
I doubt if the show would have been renewed if Chris had won. The show has always been won by someone who could dance, although not always by the best dancer. At the end of the day Strictly is a popularity contest, but if a joke contestant ever won I think viewers would turn off in droves.
The two sportsmen are athlete Iwan Thomas and boxer Anthony Ogogo (sp?). It will be interesting to see how Anthony manages because he's doing the show while he recovers from shoulder surgery and has his arm in a sling half the time. He also had an Achilles tendon injury last year, so I am really surprised he passed the medical to take part.
On another message board Iwan was described as Tiggerific and from what we've seen of him it is pretty spot on!
Some of the pairings were obviously rigged - Kristina with a safe partner for instance. However, it looks promising but I think Anita from Countryfile could soon become as irritating as Caroline Flack. Anyway, it will be a bit of welcome light relief for a Saturday night as the X-Factor is slipping away very fast and actually, I miss Louis. It isn't fun any more.
I think Carol Kirkwood will be the most difficult to teach. They've already started by giving her that dreadful dress!!!
Loathed Bruce Forsyth, don't mind Tess and absolutely love Claudia - think she is hilarious -each to his own I guess. Don't have any strong feelings about this year's contestants though was a bit disappointed in the Call the Midwife actress. Has she had cosmetic surgery? Her face was positively mask-like.
i absolutely HATED bruce forsyth and so i used to record strictly and then fast forward the bits with him in. he thinks he's funny - well he might have been funny about 50 years ago but it was gone time that he gave up.
both presenters are very good although i'm not so sure about the clowning from claudia - would be better to leave it out.
don't know who most of them are - i don't watch soaps and don't follow sport but i'm sure they'll have a fan base voting them on.
i'm looking forward to seeing how much the celebrities improve week on week - i'm sure we'll find out who's the widdecombe or sergeant fairly soon.
one thing i'm fairly certain about is that they all knew who is dancing with whom - surely some of the "excitement" was faked.
however we're in for an entertaining series.
Well I suspect Carol Kirkwood will be the first off Strictly. What do you think?
I agree NanKate, although there may be worse tomorrow and the public vote never reflects the quality of the dancing to start with.
Quite possibly, but she has got a large "fan" base so perhaps the public will keep her in - we've still got the next lot to see tomorrow, of course and maybe someone not so popular will be panned.
I was thinking they were all suspiciously good for Week 1 and then Carol Kirkwood came on............ Nice dress though, and great hair. She might improve.
Poor Carol having to dance after the strong performances of the others. Of course, Carol is a true beginner and it showed tonight. I think a few others will go before her though - she's got a good fan base.
I loved Helen and on the message boards, etc., she's already the leader of the ringer celebs, so she'll come in for some flak because of her past experience. Anthony did quite well and Daniel was not nearly as bad as I expected. He did make me laugh with his comment about being excited!
. It was a good show and I'm looking forward to tomorrow's now. 6.15 pm is so early though!
Its surprising that Anton didn't get Carol. He usually gets the duds but makes them good fun to watch. Looking forward to tonight's programme. Looks like I've got sucked in again!
I agree, 6.15pm is too early to settle down to watch TV. Carol did her best but it was evident that she was a true beginner. Her fan base may keep her in for a couple of weeks but Pasha will not be in the finals this year.
The standard was definitely high last night and even Craig was impressed occasionally. Do you think he has been told not to upset people as he has in the past with his cutting comments?
I thought Carol was lovely and perhaps she will turn out to be the underdog who is kept in by the public but there are some good ones there- loved Anita what fun that looked and the girl from Call the Midwife was very elegant and pretty.. I think though its going to be a whizz through for me now - really cant cope with Tess's inability to deliver a much rehearsed line on time and I don't really want to know what they all had for breakfast if you see what I mean - just the dancing. I'd sack all the judges- what a boring self satisfied lot!
Is Daniel O'Donnell a Synth?
Maybe HildaW! Perhaps the technology has been in front of us for years!
Actually I warmed the him last night. I think it was a bit of a shocker that Anton didn't get Carol and there's been loads of speculation about him doing really well this year. Katie and Anton are dancing the Jive tonight and that's a great dance for Anton to get out of the way in the early stages. His Latin is weak, so the more Latin he does early on, the longer he'll stay. He does make me laugh! So far I like all of the couples.
Would be nice for Anton to have a decent partner....though he was not too badly off last year.
I will always worry about a celebs abilities when they resort to winching them, or their partners, in for dramatic effect.
