New Poldark, trailer
The new series starts on Sunday. I am looking forward to it, but the new actors will take some getting used to! I have the old set on DVD and have watched them recently, which will make it harder still.
Anyone going too view?

Tabith, I think I need to watch the scene again - perhaps more than once - before making up my mind on this. grin

And merlot, I agree too. It's so much more effective to leave the details to the viewer's imagination.

merlotgran Mon 23-Mar-15 13:49:53

I think I might watch it again in careful detail because what I really want to know is....if she had to ask Ross to carefully tease apart the laces, how on earth did she manage to do up the dress in the first place? grin wink

#scheminglittleminx!

Ana Mon 23-Mar-15 13:53:44

That had crossed my mind too, merlot! It was perfectly laced up as well...confused

PRINTMISS Mon 23-Mar-15 14:47:31

That was the only comment my husband made about the programme!

I can't take George Warleggan seriously: that actor was so idiotically good as Freddy Threepwood in the 'Blandings' series. I do like Ross but he does look so cross all the time. I thought the stripped off scene of him working in the field was a bit calculated and gratuitous -an attempt to create a buzz similar to the Darcy emerging from the lake scene.

Deedaa Mon 23-Mar-15 21:20:20

I think Ross would have been unlikely to strip off like that. Country people were well aware of the likelihood of sunburn and cuts and scratches and insect bites. I noticed that Jud kept his shirt on. They would probably have worn hats too in all that sun.

I was chatting to my 16yr old DGD on facebook towards the end of the programme. A nice way of watching things together. She was saying how good it was but when they showed Ross and Demelza standing at the altar, all she could say type was...You Wot????

It was a bit quick!!

Ana Mon 23-Mar-15 21:41:09

Yes, no proposal, not even a quick 'we'd better get married because...', just the sudden wedding with no witnesses apart from the vicar! Wouldn't the banns have to have been read in those days? Very odd!

Mishap Mon 23-Mar-15 22:09:00

I agree about the lacing - I was puzzling about that!

mrsmopp Tue 24-Mar-15 08:44:32

Ross in the last episode baring his manly chest, reminded of the famous scene with Darcy and his wet shirt. We haven't recovered from that yet, have we? Weell, some of us have. It is so unnecessary.

kittylester Tue 24-Mar-15 10:04:58

Fine actor though he is, Phil Davis wouldn't have quite the allure without his shirt!

Tegan Tue 24-Mar-15 11:36:33

Watched it twice on catchup last night and still didn't get to the end both times without falling asleep so I have to watch it again today [can you fast forward on catchup?]. Much as I'm enjoying it up to a point it isn't a patch on the adaption of Tess of the d'Urbevilles a few years back and I feel the colour of the production should be a bit more muted [they're probably overreacting because of Jamaica Inn]. I still think it's good but it could be better. My Game of Thrones fanatiscism has made me very critical of just about everything else I watch.

Tegan, much as I love the programme, after reading this thread I am now aware that I must have nodded off briefly during the 'laces' scene, as I didn't see it. I thought I had been awake throughout! Thanks to GN, I don't think I need to bother watching it on iplayer.

Here you are, shysal. We'd hate you to miss out! grin

Tegan Tue 24-Mar-15 14:41:37

Going to give at another go, shysal. I must point out that I was watching whilst lying down on the sofa after a very long, tiring day.

shysal Tue 24-Mar-15 17:17:07

Thanks merlot, so much easier than trawling trough the whole episode!

Tegan Tue 24-Mar-15 17:48:59

Finally got to see it. Saucy minx; she knew what she was doing with the laces scene blush. Other than that, I find this Demelza really sweet and vulnerable. Oh damn; would Robin Ellis be the vicar marrying them [I didn't notice the vicar and don't really want to watch it through again].

Lona Tue 24-Mar-15 18:44:52

No, Tegan Robin Ellis was the magistrate.

Ana Tue 24-Mar-15 18:45:46

No, he wasn't! Was he? confused

Ana Tue 24-Mar-15 18:48:25

Oh, just checked and he was the judge. How awful, I didn't recognise him! blush

Tegan Tue 24-Mar-15 19:37:46

Darn it; I'll have to watch it AGAIN now....

Ana Tue 24-Mar-15 19:43:38

grin

mrsmopp Tue 24-Mar-15 22:29:57

He has not aged well - he is hardly recognisable! What a shock!

Lona Tue 24-Mar-15 22:34:00

Sorry, I demoted him!

merlotgran Tue 24-Mar-15 22:34:07

He looked pretty good on The One Show last week, mrsmopp

Blame it on the make up! grin
