New Poldark, trailer
The new series starts on Sunday. I am looking forward to it, but the new actors will take some getting used to! I have the old set on DVD and have watched them recently, which will make it harder still.
Anyone going too view?

I for one am seriously considering it this year, mrsmopp. smile

The tourist board is rubbing its hands with glee, hoping that Poldark will entice plenty of visitors to this amazing county.

Many generations of my family worked hard in the tin and copper mines and it saddens me to see the hard lives they had. Many of them did not live to see 40. They used to stick a lump of mud to their hats to hold the candle and this has been accurately depicted in this Poldark .

Charlestown has changed little over the years and is often used as a location for period drama. Treasure Island was filmed in the area too.

Do all come down for your holidays!

I met my husband [now ex] when I was living in Cornwall so the place tugs at my heartstrings anyway. He looked a bit like Aidan as well sad. When I moved away family holidays were always there and I've been longing to go back. I do now love Northumberland as well, but my heart is still in Cornwall.

.....and the look in Ross's eyes when she was singing tanith pure adoration. just how DH looks at me sometimes

gillybob Tue 31-Mar-15 09:42:48

Oh Tegan what are you like? I wonder who you were reallycrying for? Just wondering, that's all. sad

Tegan Tue 31-Mar-15 08:22:36

I did watch it again last night and I cried even more blush.

Leticia Tue 31-Mar-15 07:03:58

It just gets better and better.

I'm going to watch it again today. I'm not one for slushy romantic stuff but I think this has been done beautifully. It taps into my memories of being young and in love. And, even though it's after the watershed, they've realised the importance of 'less is more'; can't beat having to use a bit of imagination sometimes. Reminds me of the portrayal of the growing love between Hawkeye and Cora in the film of Last of the Mohicans.

Thank goodness they found copper in the mine, although Ross seemed to be managing very well with no money! hmm

kittylester Mon 30-Mar-15 08:36:43

I loved it too!

shysal Mon 30-Mar-15 07:46:05

I loved it! Managed to stay awake this week!

ninathenana Sun 29-Mar-15 23:51:26

Sadly I've lost interest.

Tonight's episode was just wonderful. I've just been hunting for my Poldark books, but it looks as though I must have given them to the charity shop years ago. Time for some reinvestment, I think! smile

My 16yr old DGD has just told me on facebook that she clapped and cheered when Ross told Demelza he loved her.

That's soooooo sweet smile

tanith Sun 29-Mar-15 22:25:22

I thought the song she sang was very moving and she has a lovely voice.. can't wait for next week.

hildajenniJ Sun 29-Mar-15 22:23:45

I am loving every minute of it. I didn't watch the original series so it's all new to me. I haven't read any of the books either. The Cornish scenery is wild and beautiful too.

Tegan Sun 29-Mar-15 22:17:46

I was holding back the tears for most of the programme. Years ago I, as someone who was brought up in a Birmingham slum, I spent Christmas with a very posh Cornish family [my, then, boyfriends] and it brought back such memories of being totally out of my depth. Alas, I didn't have the happy ending sad.

Lona Sun 29-Mar-15 22:13:38

I'm still swooning after tonight's episode.

merlotgran Sun 29-Mar-15 22:13:26

It was worth a year's licence money just for the last ten minutes.

And the actress playing Demelza has gone waaaaaay up in my estimation. Absolutely brilliant!

janerowena Sun 29-Mar-15 22:09:19

I have only just watched the first episode, so am not going to read all the previous posts, but I love it so far. I watched the last series years after it was made on videos, but always thought that the last Poldark looked too old for the part. He was well over 30 at the time, so I suppose he was, really. Also he seemed so sensible!

Ana Sun 29-Mar-15 22:06:36

Oh, merlot, I was the same - it was so romantic...

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 29-Mar-15 22:06:31

It was sooooooo good! Sigh!

Go Demelza!

merlotgran Sun 29-Mar-15 22:05:17

DH was laughing at me tonight for wiping away tears at the end but there's nothing like a good old fashioned love story.

Ana Tue 24-Mar-15 22:43:24

Yes, rosequartz, which is why I thought the actress chosen for the part looked too old, but as the story's being told so fast I suppose they couldn't have had a very young-looking Demelza.

rosequartz Tue 24-Mar-15 22:36:15

I've been looking out for Robin Ellis - and missed him! I must watch that part again.

I think the story must be galloping on because I thought (according to the book review?) that Demelza was only 13 when she arrived at the Poldark household hmm
