So.... what's it going to be on Sunday evening?

Looks like a titanic telly watching clash on Sunday evening..... Indian Summers on Channel 4 and A Casual Vacancy on BBC1. I was getting quite excited by the BBC1 offering, as it looked a bit like Jam & Jerusalem meets Last Tango in Halifax, but now I think I'm leaning towards Channel 4 (even with the irritating adverts). I haven't read JK Rowling's book, but it was pretty humourless by the sound of it. At least there will be some nice scenery and posh frocks in Indian Summers. Filmed in Malaysia apparently with Penang standing in for Simla.

Laure could run a masterclass is how to look incredibly sexy in a vest; no make-up and dishevelled hair. Is is because she is unaware of her beauty. SO JEALOUS.

Is there going to be another series of Spiral? I do hope so. I will be watching both The Casual Vacancy and Indian Summers. I too enjoyed reading The Casual Vacancy, I also enjoy weekend tv but tend to watch very little during the week, I just record or use catch up for dramas such as Broadchurch and watch at the weekend.

Just googled this for you and yes they are now filming series six.

I found the book heavy going but finished it. It seems JKR allowed the adaptor free rein so shall be interested to see what she made of it. No spoiler but there is a big change which I'm sure I'll prefer to the book!

Will record Indian Summers and Watch Casual V. I'm another who gave up on the book, something I don't normally do but I just could not get into it at all.

Thanks for the mention of Spiral and The Legacy jo Top of my list now for something interesting to watch.

Did you know that you can speed up going through the ads., on recorded programmes, by steadily pressing the fast forward button 4 times.

Agus Sun 15-Feb-15 14:11:49

Yes, I know about that one. Every little helps smile

Marelli Sun 15-Feb-15 16:33:39

Ah! Thank you, jo1book. smile

Thanks from me too jo1book.

Record, record, record - did you know that if you have Catch-up TV and download programmes the adverts aren`t there. Brilliant wine

Can't record, catch-up or use iplayer as we don't have that many options here, and being an hour in front of the Uk, Channel 4+1 (good as it is for lots of things)would meet a bit of a late night to watch Indian Summers. So, GNers, I'm expecting you to tell me if I'm missing something by not watching A Casual Vacancy.smile

yes, Sparkygran,it's marvellous to be able to do that isn't it?Three things tonight, Mr Selfridge, Indian summers and The Casual Vacancy, I will watch all three.

Agus Sun 15-Feb-15 21:00:47

Another option for anyone wanting to watch Spiral, the first 5 series is on Netflix.

I have just watched the first episode and gripped already.

Well, I managed to watch 35 minutes of An Unexpected Vacancy and found it a thoroughly dispiriting experience.

Despite a stellar cast there were just too many unpleasant characters. It made me feel uneasy and I was glad to switch it off.

jo1book Sun 15-Feb-15 22:14:27

Ana. Going to bed, quite depressed, after Casual Vacancy. Awful characters ruling the roost. And the nice ones, bullied and depressed. What a horrible picture it paints of modern society.

merlotgran Sun 15-Feb-15 22:18:49

Well, it's not exactly Midsomer Murders but I enjoyed it.

Just watching Indian Summers on +1. A real dramafest tonight.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 15-Feb-15 22:22:28

It was too "on message". Everything that's wrong with life today , taken and magnified. Far too predictable. And then there was the "other lot" on the council. Reminiscent of the Vicar of Dibley! One extreme to the other. confused

Ana Sun 15-Feb-15 22:22:55

(Sorry, Casual Vacancy, not Unexpected...blush)

annodomini Sun 15-Feb-15 22:23:45

I didn't watch it as I'd read the book and found it depressing. I preferred to switch to BBC4 where I heard Sir Simon Rattle and the Berlin Phil playing Sibelius.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 15-Feb-15 22:24:00

Yes. I was talking about Casual Vacancy too.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 15-Feb-15 22:25:17

Oh I see what you mean Ana.

Ana Sun 15-Feb-15 22:25:40

I got the title wrong in my first post, jingl, that's why I corrected myself.

Ana Sun 15-Feb-15 22:26:06

x posts! smile

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 15-Feb-15 22:27:14

grin.

Anya Sun 15-Feb-15 22:48:18

I'd give it a C, bog standard average.
