Looks like a titanic telly watching clash on Sunday evening..... Indian Summers on Channel 4 and A Casual Vacancy on BBC1. I was getting quite excited by the BBC1 offering, as it looked a bit like Jam & Jerusalem meets Last Tango in Halifax, but now I think I'm leaning towards Channel 4 (even with the irritating adverts). I haven't read JK Rowling's book, but it was pretty humourless by the sound of it. At least there will be some nice scenery and posh frocks in Indian Summers. Filmed in Malaysia apparently with Penang standing in for Simla.

We watched Casual Vacancy part 1.
Shan't be bothering with part 2.

I haven't read A Casual Vacancy (couldn't stand the Harry Potter books - I know their for children but lots of adults read them too).

I really enjoyed the TV adaptation.

Spiral was brilliant - there must surely be another series because there are too many storylines that need developing.

Very disappointed with A Casual Vacancy. Only managed half an hour then switched to Indian Summer which we had been recording. Really enjoyed it and looking forward to the rest of the series

Celialillian. Just been on Sky Arts page (just google Legacy series 2) and the new series will be at the end of the year. If you sign up with them they will email you when the series is about to start.

I will keep an eye on this for you celialillian. I think it will be next winter.I will make a note and post if I get information.
Are you watching Fortitude on Sky Atlantic? I haven't got SA, so was wondering.
I wish the The Killing would return (my fav.). They left it open.
What is so good about these dramas is that they allow you to see people thinking and considering situations unlike the terrible reactionary stuff of a lot of drama. Foyle and Morse are thinkers in the tradition of Smiley and so much more appealing to me.

I think some of the TV series from Scandinavia are brilliant. I loved watching the 10 episodes of LEGACY...I would love to know when the next episodes are on, does anyone know this as I would hate to miss them..the acting is brilliant, and normal looking people, instead of HOLLYWOODS perfect creations (all look alike) same cosmetic surgeon I guess..... most European TV series MONTELBANO and SPIRAL etc are just great....

I should add, it is the lower ff button that takes you through in 4 moves. Do it immediately to coincide with start of prog..

Re. Spiral. Sami might be the father. The girl gets around.

BarbaraAbbs Tue 17-Feb-15 12:35:09

Wasn't the father of Laure's baby in Spiral possibly Bremont?
And thank you Jo?? for the information on how to speed up adverts on the recording machine.

He is being sent to an inner city parish oop North, ana, and she had ideas of bringing up their family in an idyllic rural parish. She realised she wasn't cut out for that (although she works in Poplar!)

Ana Mon 16-Feb-15 15:28:56

I can't remember why they split up now...[confused emoticon]

Anya Mon 16-Feb-15 15:26:41

Is she on the road to ruin do you think or will she be saved by the love of her vicar?

Ana Mon 16-Feb-15 15:19:00

I thought that too, Anya - she certainly grabbed that advocaat bottle determinedly!

rosequartz Mon 16-Feb-15 15:07:03

Her hair was 'bigger' too this week, which made her look thinner

Anya Mon 16-Feb-15 14:48:09

Trixie I mean.

Anya Mon 16-Feb-15 14:47:32

I think it's all part of the plot. She's now wearing a uniform which is too big for her, which I think is deliberate, they've used make up to make her look tired and stressed, and she's obviously getting close to being an alcoholic.

merlotgran Mon 16-Feb-15 13:52:45

Does anyone else think that the actress who plays Trixie in Call the Midwife has lost a lot of unnecessary weight?

She has always had a slim figure but now she is now looking very thin. Shame because I don't think it suits her.

Loved all Spiral series and feel the cliffhanger ending must lead to another series, hopefully !
Watched A Casual Vacancy tonight and hadn't read the book so found it a bit confusing but once we got into it we found it rather enjoyable, pretty awful types though.
Recorded Indian Summers and look forward to that tomorrow night and as you say, one can fast forward through the ads!

rosequartz Sun 15-Feb-15 23:02:33

Fed up already.

Full of stereotypes, clichéd and not really what I want to watch for enjoyment on a Sunday evening.

Perhaps I'll watch Indian Summers next week (or is that full of stereotypes as well?)

Anya Sun 15-Feb-15 22:48:18

I'd give it a C, bog standard average.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 15-Feb-15 22:27:14

grin.

Ana Sun 15-Feb-15 22:26:06

x posts! smile

Ana Sun 15-Feb-15 22:25:40

I got the title wrong in my first post, jingl, that's why I corrected myself.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 15-Feb-15 22:25:17

Oh I see what you mean Ana.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 15-Feb-15 22:24:00

Yes. I was talking about Casual Vacancy too.

annodomini Sun 15-Feb-15 22:23:45

I didn't watch it as I'd read the book and found it depressing. I preferred to switch to BBC4 where I heard Sir Simon Rattle and the Berlin Phil playing Sibelius.
