The next series starts tonight at 9.00 on BBC1

I don't trust him either, Gagagran, he seems to be simmering with resentment deep down, and only just managing to control it!

rosequartz Mon 19-Jan-15 15:42:56

I don't trust the nanny one bit. Trying to be Mary Poppins, but with something not quite right in that spoonful of sugar ......

Yes, Caroline is going to tell Celia then all hell will break loose. Again.

Ana Mon 19-Jan-15 15:48:08

Especially when she finds out Alan's known all along...wink

Day6 Mon 19-Jan-15 15:51:51

I suspect I might be alone in not liking Gillian's character much. I find her edgy, moody, direct, unsmiling, blunt and unable to expand on any of her thoughts. In real life I would give her a wide berth. Having staccato conversations with her would depress me and make me feel in some way guilty. I know she has a hard life, but I wish she would let herself go occasionally. (She did, when drunk but afterwards was as miserable as sin!) Robbie wants to marry into that? Is he aware of what he is letting himself in for...and does he have a shed-load of anti-depressants to hand? ;)

The drabness of the farm and it's bleak surrounds contrasts well with the sumptuous, middle-classiness of the big house in posh Harrogate. I must admit, I warm to very few of the characters...but that's the way it's supposed to be, isn't it?

I am not convinced by the young, cheery nanny (ex pupil) breezing in to lift all the gloom. Their amazed smiles at the end as she walked into the house left me feeling I'd somehow stumbled into a scene from Mary Poppins. I get the feeling Caroline will give up the baby. I can't feel the love.

Oh I do so enjoy being an armchair critic. Last Tango has me hooked. smile

Mary Poppins will prove to be off her trolley and thingummybob (the biological father) will prove to be adept at nappy changing, feeding and move in as the nanny. He won't be allowed to acknowledge to Flora who he is until she is 18. By which time we will all have switched off.

janeainsworth Mon 19-Jan-15 15:55:24

I agree about Gillian Day6
I suspect I'm the only one who likes Caroline though!

janeainsworth Mon 19-Jan-15 15:56:20

Or popped our clogs Roseq grin

rosequartz Mon 19-Jan-15 15:56:22

No, you couldn't be friends with Gillian, could you. She would leave you feeling agitated - and probably pinch your OH.

Eloethan Mon 19-Jan-15 16:35:55

I think there was a clue in the preview about the nanny - some sort of emergency re the baby.

I really like Gillian. In fact I like all the characters apart from Caroline's younger son who is totally selfish but, given his dad's seeming inability to think about anyone but himself, I suppose it's not that surprising.

rockgran Mon 19-Jan-15 16:57:40

Any drama with Sarah Lancashire is worth watching. I think she is an amazingly good actress - she's come a long way since "Racquel" in Corrie.
I cried through most of last night's episode - meaning I thoroughly enjoyed it.sad

Ana Mon 19-Jan-15 17:21:15

Flora was huge for a newborn, though! I know they can't have really tiny babies on on tv programmes, but it does make some scenes a bit odd! I thought at first Kate's funeral had been delayed for some reason...

It's the same with Call the Midwife.

(And do days-old babies get colic? confused)

rosequartz Mon 19-Jan-15 17:41:29

Although she must have been a good actress to play 'Raquel' in Corrie, as she's quite posh really!

I felt quite exhausted after watching Call the Midwife and Last Tango!

DD1 had colic very early on - they blamed it on the grapes I was eating.

Coolgran65 Mon 19-Jan-15 19:00:53

What have I missed, what is Gillian's secret ?

And new nanny appeared hyper !!

I think Gary might have anger management issues.

rosequartz Mon 19-Jan-15 19:19:16

I have pmd you Coolgran65 with the secret, in case other posters don't know yet. If you can follow my pm you will be very lucky grin

Treebee Mon 19-Jan-15 19:26:05

DD1 had colic from about day 3. Made my heart sink when Caroline described it as from 6 -3 , brought it all back, poor little thing.

rosequartz Mon 19-Jan-15 19:27:58

6pm - 10pm grizzly
10pm - 2 am sleep
2am - 4.30ish -scream

I remember it well, feeling so helpless to do anything to alleviate it.

Ana Mon 19-Jan-15 19:31:24

DD was about 3 months when she had it - yes, a nightmare!

rosesarered Tue 20-Jan-15 17:32:38

I thought it was all a bit contrived, and yes, those amazed smiles as the new nanny appeared as though she was an angel from heaven, seemed ....just odd. You would want an older more experienced nanny and not some flaky girl.Caroline is annoying [always] and wants her own way in everything.John is charming and unreliable, Judith is an achoholic,
Gillian is also selfish and stubborn as well [and the opposite of charming] Alun is just weak about almost everything, Rafe and his girlfriend say bizarre things [their baby, Calamity?Fantasy land.] Harry [the old friend] speaks a lot, about nothing in particular,Gary, the son [of Alun] has something dark in him despite the smiles..... in short, it's great tv.

rosequartz Tue 20-Jan-15 18:06:07

The baby's name is Emily Jane Greenwood Wallace but when they tell Alan what she is called he mishears them and thinks she is called Calamity Jane, so she has been called Calamity since (she's going to love that when she gets to school!).

Mishap Tue 20-Jan-15 19:31:24

Here's my theory - Caroline will fall for the nanny.

rosequartz Tue 20-Jan-15 19:43:18

Whereas Caroline's baby is called Flora - like the margarine as someone in the programme pointed out

(actually a very pretty name, I knew a Flora).)

merlotgran Tue 20-Jan-15 19:47:45

I used to be called Calamity. Mainly because I would gallop around thrashing myself over the bottom with a stick while singing 'Whip Crack Away' at the top of my voice. grin

NfkDumpling Tue 20-Jan-15 20:42:14

Did you put jumps up around the garden Merlot?

merlotgran Tue 20-Jan-15 20:50:44

Of course, Nfk. I still have a scar where my left ear lobe had to be sewn back in place after a nasty fall at the water jump. shock

I wonder if Harry made it home OK after that boozy Sunday lunch? He's not been heard of since.

Greyduster Tue 20-Jan-15 22:16:31

He'll have fallen in the lock!
