The next series starts tonight at 9.00 on BBC1

I have watched Benidorm but not recently. I can only watch it if DH is out (not that he is averse to watching what I think is rubbish) grin

gillybob Tue 13-Jan-15 10:03:24

I love Benidorm too petallus there is something about the dysfunctional characters that made my life seem almost normal. grin

Not so sure about the new series though. I was wondering if perhaps it had run its course, but Johnny Vegas is back this week (I think) which should be a giggle.

petallus Tue 13-Jan-15 10:43:32

The earlier series were much funnier.

I notice the actor who plays the middle aged husband (the wonderfully dreadful Madge's son in law) is cropping up all over TV at the moment, most recently Mapp and Lucia.

I think the tractor is a therapeutic tractor. There's probably nothing wrong with it, but it's something to take her mind off her chaotic family life. "Oh st**f you lot! I'm going to strip a carburettor down! And don't anyone dare disturb me (except oily John!). Where's my bl***y spanner?" I like Gillian.

petallus Tue 13-Jan-15 11:13:33

I can believe two men want to marry Gillian. They find her exciting.

Ana Tue 13-Jan-15 11:27:40

I agree. She's certainly a much more sympathetic character than any of the others - and what a contrast to buttoned-up Caroline!

KatyK Tue 13-Jan-15 13:33:43

I love Benidorm. Not sure it will be the same without the Garveys. Now back to Last Tango. I agree re Gillian smile

Mishap Tue 13-Jan-15 14:05:04

I hope that Gillian has a good supply of condoms under her pillow!

daffydil Tue 13-Jan-15 14:07:12

I too wondered how Gillian was cooking the Sunday lunch. The housewife (head cook/bottle washer?) in us is never far below the surface.
This series is maintaining its excellent writing and acting. Next week's Radio Times was delivered today and I made the mistake of looking at the details of the next episode so if you don't want to know the outcome of Kate's accident don't look at the cast list.
I also watch Benidorm but thnk this series is not so good.

I've been to hotels like the one in Benidorm. I wouldn't keep going back though grin

I noticed on the last episode of LTH when Alan was making the baby feeds, he didn't level the top of the scoop off!!! he just tapped it on the tin!

I kept off this thread until I'd watched the latest episode on catch up last night. I wept when Caroline was called in to the relatives room by the consultant. I've enjoyed the comments made by others about the way families in RL are so like the ones in Last Tango. I also liked the reference earlier on this thread to Gillian's 'therapeutic tractor.' I enjoy the odd shot of Raff's baby, who seems always to be sitting with a dummy or food in her mouth, contentedly watching life unfold in front of her.

I wonder if the Judge who is to decide on costs can be blackmailed, as he's talked about the case with his daughter? I do hope so. Her comment that if you let Gary in to your life, he'll control it was another cracker.

As for Kate's baby, I think that because she and Caroline had married, that gives Caroline parental responsibility automatically. That wouldn't prevent a resident/contact dispute between her, the baby's father and Kate's mother though…….

merlotgran Wed 14-Jan-15 10:55:52

We thought Robbie was a bit slow on the uptake re the judge discussing the case with his daughter. He's a policeman isn't he?

Maybe this will turn out to be Harry's salvation?

rosequartz Wed 14-Jan-15 10:59:10

Yes, I thought oops, sub judice could prejudice the outcome or could now get thrown out.

Culag Wed 14-Jan-15 12:00:16

I didn't watch the first two series and am only just managing to sort out all the characters. Can someone tell me please, who is the guy who had a boating accident and had to sell his house? Is he a relation to any of the others? confused

gillybob Wed 14-Jan-15 12:05:09

Oh yes Culag he Raff's girlfriends, grandad (the baby's mother) he is also one of Alan's oldest friends.

gillybob Wed 14-Jan-15 12:06:50

Ooops. Meant to say he is Raff's girlfriends, grandad.

Culag Wed 14-Jan-15 18:30:34

Thanks Gillybob, so does Raff's girlfriend live at the farm too? If so Gillian has a lot to cater for!

Purpledaffodil Wed 14-Jan-15 21:44:10

She does live there and her mum pays towards her keep, but Gillian has said that she won't let her do that now Rafe's girlfriend has left school and got herself a supermarket job. Addictive story isn't it? I NEVER get involved in plots like this normally.

Culag Wed 14-Jan-15 21:53:45

Thanks, I think I've got them all sorted now.

merlotgran Wed 14-Jan-15 22:03:13

I wonder if John will get back with Caroline now there's a baby in the equation and he's just lost his.

gillybob Wed 14-Jan-15 22:04:12

You're welcome Culag it is very addictive isn't it? I did notice that comment pupledaffodil when Gillian (my namesake, although only ever used by my mum, the doctor and the taxman) said she couldn't continue to accept money for her keep once she was working.

Ana Wed 14-Jan-15 22:10:48

Surely Caroline wouldn't have him back, merlot!
And TBH I can't see him being much help as far as babycare's concerned...hmm

merlotgran Wed 14-Jan-15 22:14:27

You never know, Ana He might turn out to be a knight in shining armour. He's got nowhere else to go. hmm

Ana Wed 14-Jan-15 22:22:25

Well, I suppose it would be a tidy solution - we shall see! grin
