I have just heard that Michael Buerk will be taking part in this. shock. I feel that ex newsreaders should refrain from taking part in reality shows and retain a modicum of gravitas in their retirement! What do you think? (I have never watched this programme btw)

I love it too! Its not even a guilty pleasure. Intellectual snobs don't know what they are missing. Ant and Dec are just fantastic, they are so cheeky and funny. I don't know who most of the "celebs" are and don't care. We get to know them as time goes on. The relationships and the personalities as they emerge are fascinating. Of course its all in the editing. We see the relatively few fleeting moments that the edit team think are good entertainment. Whatever, I`m happy to suspend disbelief for an hour a day in the "jungle".

I agree with Chris Packham. Maybe we need a Facebook campaign!

Yvon

Sorry, a Facebook campaign for what?

I can see why people find it interesting to see how people manage in a completely alien environment and how they get on with each other - I find that interesting too.

I just don't understand what is entertaining about watching someone being showered with millions of bugs, maggots or whatever, or crawling through tunnels containing snakes, etc. How is it enjoyable watching people experiencing extreme disgust and terror?

Well, it just is, to those of us that like it.

I do agree that the challenges involving creatures are nasty. Playing to primeval fears I suppose. I prefer the other ones like swimming or high wire ones. My favourite is the one where they are all struggling up a slope while being bombarded with water cannons. They all find it fun and no animals or insects are involved
