I have just heard that Michael Buerk will be taking part in this. shock. I feel that ex newsreaders should refrain from taking part in reality shows and retain a modicum of gravitas in their retirement! What do you think? (I have never watched this programme btw)

I do agree that the challenges involving creatures are nasty. Playing to primeval fears I suppose. I prefer the other ones like swimming or high wire ones. My favourite is the one where they are all struggling up a slope while being bombarded with water cannons. They all find it fun and no animals or insects are involved

henetha Fri 21-Nov-14 19:17:11

Well, it just is, to those of us that like it.

I can see why people find it interesting to see how people manage in a completely alien environment and how they get on with each other - I find that interesting too.

I just don't understand what is entertaining about watching someone being showered with millions of bugs, maggots or whatever, or crawling through tunnels containing snakes, etc. How is it enjoyable watching people experiencing extreme disgust and terror?

Yvon

Sorry, a Facebook campaign for what?

Yvon Fri 21-Nov-14 17:06:43

I agree with Chris Packham. Maybe we need a Facebook campaign!

I love it too! Its not even a guilty pleasure. Intellectual snobs don't know what they are missing. Ant and Dec are just fantastic, they are so cheeky and funny. I don't know who most of the "celebs" are and don't care. We get to know them as time goes on. The relationships and the personalities as they emerge are fascinating. Of course its all in the editing. We see the relatively few fleeting moments that the edit team think are good entertainment. Whatever, I`m happy to suspend disbelief for an hour a day in the "jungle".

You mentioned food sharing, and that's the point I replied to. I seem to remember that every time they had an option, they chose to release someone.

Nadia didn't seem bothered about where she slept, Kendra was just taking umbrage on her behalf, I think!

soontobe Thu 20-Nov-14 20:42:26

Not the first one I dont think.

Plus there was that kerfuffle about not giving Nadia somewhere nice to sleep?
Plus Michael Beurk keeps making non generous remarks [though I do wonder if it is a bit of an act].
Plus Mel wouldnt give up her bed for another woman.
Plus most of them were not willing to stay awake at night for the star counting.

Ana Thu 20-Nov-14 20:36:29

Not sure about that, soontobe. The ones who've done the trials so far have all sacrificed meals to release one of the others from the camp 'prison'.

soontobe Thu 20-Nov-14 20:31:19

Is it me, or do this year's bunch seem a bit different to usual?
More selfish maybe?
Not as willling to share meals for instance, and more out for themselves?

I do think that Mel Sykes is coming through well. And also the allo allo woman.

Marelli Thu 20-Nov-14 20:17:31

I've never watched it either.

Ana Thu 20-Nov-14 16:19:44

Me too. It's a pity Gemma's walked out and Craig's had to leave due to bereavement, they were both colourful characters.

tanith Thu 20-Nov-14 16:17:44

I watch too , I have had some of my most hysterical moments in past series especially the one with Paul Burrell, OH and I don't often like the same programs but we do watch this together and are hoping for some more laughs this time.
Laughing is good for you no matter how its generated ladies.. and yes I do know its rubbish but choose to watch anyway.

Anniebach Thu 20-Nov-14 13:40:54

I watch it , be a strange world if we all shared the same sense of humour - or lack of sense of humour

POGS Thu 20-Nov-14 11:33:21

Yep, I'm in the 'I can watch crap progs but enjoy them' brigade. grin

I thought it was a dire line up initially but they actually have a good mix and at last some reasonably intelligent people.

The footballer makes me smile. He has lost his street cred from the get go but he doesn't care he's taking the spirit of the thing to heart.

It could be one of the better ones. Ant and Dec are as good as they were from the first show, they are showing no sign of mental fatigue or boredom.

It is definitely one of those programmes that is Marmight.

feetlebaum Thu 20-Nov-14 11:31:33

@Marty -- I'm witchoo, Booboo... (sorry, Yogi Bear mode there). I'm with you all the way on that. I'm sick and tired of soi-disant 'reality' programming, where we used to expect entertainment of a professional kind. I find myself giving up in disgust, turning the thing off and going to bed early a lot these days...

Funny - our equipment is immeasurably more sophisticated and of higher quality than it used to be - but there's so little to watch on it nowadays!

suevie34 Thu 20-Nov-14 10:23:45

I like it too grin

Marty Thu 20-Nov-14 10:19:43

annsixty. I have never watched it and never intend too. I loathe reality programmes. It's just cheap TV and most of it staged.

henetha Thu 20-Nov-14 10:04:54

Well, I like it.. It makes me laugh. And some of this year's celebs in the jungle have reeled me in already.
Each to his own.

J52 Thu 20-Nov-14 09:48:08

I don't watch it. Just reflecting on what people have found 'entertaining' throughout history.

suevie34 Thu 20-Nov-14 09:36:26

It's good for a laugh!

feetlebaum Thu 20-Nov-14 09:18:20

I cannot believe what people find entertaining!

shysal Thu 20-Nov-14 08:41:15

I read this morning that Craig Charles was informed yesterday that his older brother has died unexpectedly, so sad for him. Michael Buerk had no idea who Tynchy was, but they have formed an unlikely friendship including funny handshake.
I am embarrassed to say that I always watch I'm a Celeb and Big Brother. I enjoy them, and look forward to discussing them with the GCs.blush

soontobe Thu 20-Nov-14 08:34:01

Havent seen yesterday's installment yet.

I liked Gemma in it. My husband is glad she has gone!

Pittcity Thu 20-Nov-14 08:29:18

Edwina Currie is going in.... Should make it more interesting!
