Strictly - shall you?

Juts read the article in RT (in Smiths don't buy it) re Strictly Come Dancing and it looks dire - no Brucie and a guest list of no-one I have ever heard of except that coarse fruit and veg man and Andy Murray's sour faced mother.
I suppose I will get sucked in but I think its a record and wiz through job now - I like watching the professional dancers but can't stand the rubbish that Tess talks.
Will you be watching?

Glad to see the back of Greg too, I have no idea what that man has, or how he stays on t.v. I wonder if he can actually cook, I would love to see him in a cookery competition now! There are some really awful dancers and some very good ones, and it will be interesting to see how the weeks pan out. I always enjoy this programme, but the waiting when they are announcing the results, and that music drives me mad.

Do the competitors have a say in choosing their own costumes?

I was wondering who thought that a pink and red dress was a good choice of colour for poor Jennifer. With her colouring it was all wrong. She'd have looked so much better in a midnight blue - or any other colour but pink.

Lona Mon 06-Oct-14 10:21:00

That dress would have looked ghastly on most women IMO.
Sometimes it's as though the wardrobe dept. decide to make a celebrity look as bad as possible. The shiny stuff on the top of Alison's skirt made her hips look even bigger............... why do it?

Over the years the professional women's costumes have become skimpier and skimpier. Originally Ola Jordan was the one who appeared half naked, but now most of them have these almost indecent outfits. And I'm no prude, but I suspect that this display of flesh draws attention from the dancing. Maybe that's the intention!

HollyDaze Mon 06-Oct-14 11:31:47

I have a sneaky feeling that Claudia is going to take over the show wink

How intriguing Lona - are you in possession of a few tidbits that we are not (and, more importantly, are you going to share them) grin

HollyDaze Mon 06-Oct-14 11:36:12

she has all the grace and dancing ability of a tailor's dummy.

For some of us, that is the attraction of SCD - to see a complete novice given some really good dancing abilities; what's the point of watching people who can already dance be teamed with professionals to teach them?

Fortunately, since I've been watching (about six years now), the winners do tend to be novices that have learned to dance from (almost sometimes) scratch.

HollyDaze Mon 06-Oct-14 11:38:53

Does anyone else think that the lifts that Jake Wood had to do were a bit too dangerous for a novice?

Lona Mon 06-Oct-14 11:51:39

Holly I know nothing! Said in my best Manuel voice.

I have to confess Holly, when you cut and paste something I've said, I get quite scared.

smile

HollyDaze Mon 06-Oct-14 11:58:08

Well, Lona, I have just noticed that all the twitterererers in the Twittersphere are complaining like mad about her and accusing her of being so bad that she is rehashing Brucie's old jokes! I thought you might have heard a little something ...

You get scared! Why?

papaoscar Mon 06-Oct-14 13:13:42

Be not scared, Lona' it is the mark of literary greatness to be quoted by those envious of superior linguistic abilility. Be proud of your own ability and leave the writing of drivel to others like myself!

Anya Mon 06-Oct-14 14:10:05

Well said papaoscar wink

Jane10 Mon 06-Oct-14 14:20:31

Claudia is brilliant- she`s so splendidly daft! She always makes us laugh. Tess is the straight person which is fine. The show needs both. Just gushing loveliness is too boring. Claudia certainly isn't boring. What a shame about the tweeting twits complaining about her.

Teetime Mon 06-Oct-14 15:31:09

Glad to see the back of Greg don't like him at all but at least he made a graceful exit.
Claudia has the wit and ability to ad lib and is funny but also gets the serious points but Tess gets more and more wooden.
I do wish the judges hadn't started fannying about at the start of the show though.

Lona Mon 06-Oct-14 17:01:05

papaoscar phew, you're asking for it now wink

Holly I think I've read too many 'serious' threads where there was a lot of 'cut and thrust' going on.
smile smile

HollyDaze Mon 06-Oct-14 17:19:47

What a shame about the tweeting twits

I typed 'twits' originally and then changed it as some twitterers get a tad miffed about it grin

HollyDaze Mon 06-Oct-14 17:25:57

Not just on my part Lona - I am a gentle pussycat who is never rude (or ill-mannered or judgemental, either direct or by innuendo) to others - unless goaded past a point that I'm prepared to tolerate wink smile

Lona Mon 06-Oct-14 19:58:13

That's alright then Holly sunshine

durhamjen Sat 11-Oct-14 14:01:53

Greg's made himself popular by saying that Masterchef could never be presented by two women!

HollyDaze Sat 11-Oct-14 14:37:46

So one chef and a greengrocer are preferable to two women (regardless of whether the women can cook or not) hmm

I'm glad I don't watch it

papaoscar Sat 11-Oct-14 14:54:54

Looking forward to the clash of sequins and egos again tonight. After Greg's confession I hope that the two ladies will be discretely inspecting all parties to make sure that approriate undergarments are being worn. The thought of all those uncovered organs waving about in the breeze is almost beyond contemplation. Let battle commence!

Anya Sat 11-Oct-14 18:37:50

What's that numpty Donny Osmond doing on the judges panel?
I know he was on the American Strictly but why?

papaoscar Sat 11-Oct-14 18:58:21

Could be a trial run for a male host role, perhaps, with Tess floated off upstairs to do the post-dance interviews? I have a feeling in my bones...

Anya Sat 11-Oct-14 19:03:47

shock

Valbeasixties Sat 11-Oct-14 19:11:32

Sigh! I dislike 'Strictly' and the 'X Factor' so it will be Tom Kerridge and the Saturday papers with a G and T on the side.

pompa Sat 11-Oct-14 19:12:27

Anya, agree totally, surely they could find someone with dance skills. I guess he is cheap, if not they are wasting our money.

I do think the show is lacking a strong presenter, but please not DO.

A few more weeks will wheedle out the no hoper's and we can enjoy a competition, several strong contenders this year.
