Well what a disappointment. We like the series on TV but although it had a weak plot it didn't, for us, transfer to the big screen.

Thanks goodness we didn't actually pay, we had a gift card.

I'd say don't waste your money 4 out of 10

I really enjoyed the film, although a bit silly towards the end, still had plenty of laughs.

Don't start me off Overthehill I can feel the tears of laughter starting. grin

As I said we went to the movie because we like the series but it just didn't transfer well to the big screen.

The line I like the best was Winnie saying to Mrs Brown (or words to this effect) "I heard you told people that my Jacko had a wart on his willy"

"No Winnie you're wrong, I said it felt like a wart on his willy" smile

Ah! Thanks Nonu. I 'll try again. grin grin grin

Whilst sobbing with laughter I am saying 'this is disgusting, why I am laughing at it'.

I think the neighbour Winnie is so good and when she and Mrs. Brown are together their dialogue is brilliant. I can just imagine my late grandmother saying some of these things, without the swearing.

We love it grin

Marelli Tue 12-Aug-14 19:30:02

I like it, too! I find it very funny and it doesn't worry me that there is swearing etc. She reminds me of my mother-in-law who wasn't Irish, but walked in a similar way, and always had a tea-towel in her hand. grin

Nonu Tue 12-Aug-14 10:41:34

HENE, you have to put the brackets round EACH word.
Try again!
grin

henetha Tue 12-Aug-14 10:28:45

Doh! Three grins don't work! grin

henetha Tue 12-Aug-14 10:28:22

Oh, thank goodness some of you like it. I thought I was a lone voice in the wilderness. Mrs.Brown makes me laugh so much that I actually did fall off the sofa when it was on the other day. [grin grin grin ]

Yes it's rude. Yes it's funny! I quite surprised myself for liking it - and I astonished my daughter!

feetlebaum Tue 12-Aug-14 08:31:35

I was all ready to condemn the programme, unseen (!) - very sniffy I was - and then I saw the bikini-wax scene on YouTube - and decided I wasn't going to miss anything that could make me laugh that much!

The episode where Agnes takes LSD thinking it's indigestion tablets left me breathless and tearful too...

Liz46 Tue 12-Aug-14 07:54:17

One of the funniest things I have ever 'not seen' was when Mrs Brown gave herself a bikini wax. We didn't see anything because she shut herself in the downstairs loo under the stairs and we just heard what was going on. The only visual part of it was something that resembled a small cat outside the loo later.

I don't make a point of watching it, but enjoy it when I do. I love pantomime and I find it like pantomime minus the ambiguity [which is a bit of an understatement].

Another Mrs Brown's Boys fan here. I love it when they make each other laugh, and sometimes film the crew as well. She has a crude tongue, but she's so good-natured. It's interesting that Cathy in real life is Brendan O'Carroll's wife.

petallus Mon 11-Aug-14 15:15:19

DH and I watched an episode last night. We think it's very funny. I admit it is a bit rude sometimes.

sunseeker Mon 11-Aug-14 13:05:28

Having had an Irish MiL I would say that this may be based on a real character but has no resemblance to any Irish woman that I know. I must admit that I have not watched more than a few minutes of the programme before switching off.

henetha Mon 11-Aug-14 10:26:11

Obviously I'm in the minority here, but I love Mrs.Brown's boys and find it very funny. Sorry... blush

Ana Mon 11-Aug-14 09:26:22

Well, thank you for enlightening us, feetlebaum, but the fact that 'Mrs Brown' is based on a real character still doesn't make the programme funny to me...hmm

Lona Mon 11-Aug-14 09:08:32

grumppa Principal boys? hmm Well, they weren't supposed to be funny, but I don't know why there weren't any young men to play the parts.

Perhaps the girls were getting sniffy about the men playing women, so they decided to join in the confusion! hmm grin

feetlebaum Mon 11-Aug-14 09:03:27

What you fail to realise, Ana, is that 'Mrs Brown' is quite the authentic character, in language and manner! Based, I believe, on Brendan O'Carroll's own mother...

The programme is so successful because there is genuine affection between audience and cast. 'Dressing up as a woman' is not funny per se - think of the Archbishop of Canterbury... oh, maybe not...

The fact remains that Mrs Brown's Boys makes people laugh aloud, without malice - and that is a rare achievement these days.

suebailey1 Mon 11-Aug-14 08:28:54

I think this must be the absolute worst programme on TV - the BBC is rapidly losing my vote before the renewal of their licence to broadcast next year.

grumppa Sun 10-Aug-14 21:02:55

Nor do I, Lona, but I suppose it's in the tradition of pantomime dames. How do you feel about principal boys?

Never watched more than a minute of Mrs. Brown before switching over or off?

Lona Sun 10-Aug-14 20:15:06

I don't understand these men who think dressing up as a woman is funny. hmm

Ana Sun 10-Aug-14 20:10:16

Caught a bit of the tv series last night, by accident. Why on earth does nearly every other word he/she says have to be the 'f' word? Doesn't make it any funnier...
