Such very sad news. My DSs absolutely loved the Young Ones and could recite every episode word for word. RIP Rik Mayall you gave so much fun to so many.

Agus Mon 09-Jun-14 17:54:40

That's a shock! Very sad news.

merlotgran Mon 09-Jun-14 17:54:46

So sad. sad Happy memories of watching the Young Ones with our teenage children - especially the University Challenge episode.

RIP, Rik

Such a shame - he was a brilliant actor .. who could forget his wonderful Alan B'stard in the New Statesman?

Soutra Mon 09-Jun-14 18:37:34

I wonder if the quad bike accident he had a few years ago might have had something to do with it? He nearly died then - so maybe brain haemmorhage? Too young whateversad

I was never a fan but it is always sad to hear of someone dying so young.

Mishap Mon 09-Jun-14 19:28:42

I am sorry to hear he has died so young. I was not a fan either, but would not have wished this for him so young.

My children's favourite film was "Drop dead Fred". I think they loved it because I hated it - but I do think he was very talented!

I loved everything Rik was in and I have to say when Bottom was on DH and I use to laugh until tears rolled down our faces. I'm vrry sad at his passing. Never forget Lord Flashheart - sexyist man on TV.

Deedaa Mon 09-Jun-14 20:23:28

What a shock! I always loved the Young Ones.

Tegan Mon 09-Jun-14 20:24:00

Soutra; that was my first thought. I loved The Young Ones. Mel Smith and now Rik; it was quite an amazing time for British comedy.

papaoscar Mon 09-Jun-14 20:32:00

Very, very, sad. RIP, Rick.

feetlebaum Mon 09-Jun-14 20:49:59

I didn't care for The Young Ones, but I liked everything else he appeared in. And that includes those early 'Kevin Turvey' monologues...

"Good evening - I suppose...'

RIP Alan B'Stard, Lord Flasheart... and of course 'Rick'.

Ana Mon 09-Jun-14 21:11:24

Absolutely, feetlebaum - I wasn't keen on The Young Ones either, but all the other characters you mention were wonderful...I'd forgotten about Kevin Turvey! grin

Charleygirl Mon 09-Jun-14 21:55:48

I never saw him in anything and I know little about him but it is still too young to die.

Bottom was one of the funniest programmes ever, I think. I loved Rik Mayall's anarchism in everything he did. And wasn't he a handsome bloke when he wasn't distorting his features in that unique way he had.
Rest in Peace, Rik.

Ana Tue 10-Jun-14 15:21:49

He was handsome, wasn't he henetha?

henetha Tue 10-Jun-14 15:24:36

Yes, Ana. I really fancied him when he was Alan B'stard !

KatyK Tue 10-Jun-14 15:26:57

I loved Kevin Turvey and my DD did too when she was younger, maybe because we are Brummies. I used to love his tales about his supposed girlfriend Teresa Kelly smile RIP Rik.

I was so shocked to hear of his death. Much too young! I used to love TYO with our children when they were teenagers. Liked him in episodes of Blackadder too. And yes, very good-looking.

HollyDaze Wed 11-Jun-14 10:48:30

I was also shocked to hear of his death. I used to love The Young Ones. Such a young age to die.

RIP Rik

saddened by the news that Rik has died, so young, will be missed by lots of us who enjoyed his briliant humour.
