Is anyone else in training for Wimbledon? I watched 2 whole hours of Roland Garros yesterday! grin

feetlebaum Sun 22-Jun-14 20:46:44

Lawn tennis was invented at Wimbledon as something to keep the ladies amused while the gentlemen got on with the real Wimbledon business - Croquet!

The players didn't do dog impressions in those days...

NanKate Sun 22-Jun-14 20:46:08

Yes Soutra I too am gearing up for Wimbers. I have been in training watching Paris, Queens and Eastbourne.

I will be rooting for Rafa as always, although I know grass is not his surface.

Switch off the computer, feet up, cup of tea in hand and get ready for John Mac and Sue B to introduce the best tournament in the world. brew

I often dig out old videos of horse races and watch them again and once I get onto races on utube [which were banned at one time but thankfully are back on again] I can disappear for hours. Did you know you can see races each day if it's a Jockey Club course by going onto Jockey Club race videos [unfortunately Ascot isn't one of theirs and I missed yesterday].

I will only watch the finals [Wimbledon] and with football only the important matches, ditto rugby or anything else sporting, as I like the nailbiting bit at the end with sports.I can watch any old horse race though, as I simply like watching horses run.Enjoyed watching Ascot this week.smile I have a friend who shuts herself away for the duration of Wimbledon, and she won't even answer the phone, she is so keen on seeing every moment.

The way I read silverfish post was she was having a small joke, not being unkind! We have to have a laugh SOMETIMES, lordy, lordy Miss
Claudie.

Elegran Sun 22-Jun-14 19:52:25

That is a bit defeatist, Silverfish. Surely you can find some channels without any sport? Or watch I-player or Catch-up TV. Do you have sole possession of the remote control? If not, act now to take it over!

Silverfish Sun 22-Jun-14 19:39:51

Oh dear, Ive had my telly off for the last week due to the football and now someone has told me that Wimbledon is on next week. I thought it was on a fortnight ago. How am I going to cope with no telly for another week. I don't watch much but everywhere gives priority to sport. Also why is it that the sport is only on in the summer months after all the football is happening abroad and the courts at Wimbledon are roofed (or so they say). grooooan. Enough to drive me to eat for comfort and that's not good.

It's too close to guess, Soutra - both amazing players. Should be a very good match.

Soutra Sat 07-Jun-14 21:20:37

It was an amazing match though! I turned the volume right down and was spell bound! Wonder what tomorrow will bring- will it be Rafa or Novak?

whenim64 Sat 07-Jun-14 21:02:02

OK she didn't win, Tegan! (she did though - sorry!) grin

Tegan Sat 07-Jun-14 20:42:30

My memory is so bad I wouldn't have remembered who won anyay sad. I'm so glad men's tennis moved on from the Sampras years, though [which I found as unwatchable as Sharapova]. Did she win today, by the way? Please say she didn't.

whenim64 Sat 07-Jun-14 19:40:02

I watched the 2008 epic final between Nadal and Federer again this afternoon, and was on the edge of my seat even though I knew the outcome! Stunning tennis! smile

Silverfish Sat 07-Jun-14 16:56:33

I would also like to add that I thought these posts were for anyone. When I make a comment I hope I will stimulate anyone to reply, not just those who like what ive said. Therefore it is good that people who don't like tennis can make a comment too, it creates a more balanced view . Those who are saying that if someone does not like tennis should not comment are trying to create bias. I am the least bias person ever and I see all points of view.

Silverfish Sat 07-Jun-14 16:35:44

Has none of you got a sense of humour, I was joking last night wen I posted my comments. I really could not care if anyone like tennis/football or anything else as long as they don't bother me with them.

Dragonfly1 Sat 07-Jun-14 14:52:22

Sharapova's squawking has driven me to switch off. She sounds like a mating vixen.

ginny Fri 06-Jun-14 23:44:22

Ok jinglbellsfrocks That's what I read too. I clicked just to see what was being said about Wimbledon. I think I responded correctly to Soutras original question. GrannyTwice inferred that I and others did not 'have a life. We do, it just doesn't include enjoying tennis and other sports.

Not sure why it particularly riled me today. hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 06-Jun-14 23:32:46

(whisper) I think she was aiming it at a poster with the name of a small silver creepy crawlie (no disrespect meant to that poster)

I'm definitely shutting up about it now.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 06-Jun-14 23:31:13

(the last bit was from me)

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 06-Jun-14 23:30:28

grin

Gtw said " if I saw a thread which clearly indicated a topic in which I hadn't the slightest interest or worse, found extremely tedious, I wouldn't bother to click on, let alone say mean-spirited things about it when other people clearly enjoy it"

that's my last word on the subject. grin)

ginny Fri 06-Jun-14 23:14:58

jinglbellsfrocks I'm obviously reading a different forum to you. Please could you explain what she did say ?

Silverfish Fri 06-Jun-14 22:54:30

I know the weather forecast is for thunder and I keep hearing this rumbling noise but there's no lightning, I guess its all the snoring I can hear from these tennis fans, falling asleep on the sofa. (no offence meant) lol

NanKate Fri 06-Jun-14 22:42:04

Fabulous match from the great guy Rafa. Try and keep the momentum going for Sunday - this will be a much harder match.

As they say in your Facebook page 'Vamos Rafa'.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 06-Jun-14 18:28:13

that was to ginny

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 06-Jun-14 18:27:43

No! She didn't say that! Read the post. Carefully. hmm

whenim64 Fri 06-Jun-14 17:57:21

Rafa was really on form today. Well done to him - good match.
