BBC3 or 4 to close?

Rumours that the Beeb are going to close one of them. Feel pretty upset about this as I tend to watch them far more than BBC1 or 2. They've already stopped showing my sport of choice, racing, and now this. I would assume that BBC3 will go; I watch that less but it is at the forefront of good new comedy programmes such as Bad Education. BBC4 is full of repeats and archive material programmes anyway, so why does it cost so much to run? And they introduced us to Wallander and The Killing. Is this discrimination against people that are happy to watch programmes with subtitles on a Saturday night hmm. At least they didn't stop Radio6 when they planned to and that is going from strength to strength now. One of the joys of being retired is being able to stay up and watch BBC4 sad. Might as well go backto work. Oops can't; they've closed my dispensary/surgery down.

Then where would they put the childrens programmes, they moved all of them to 3 and 4, I would be lost without Justin Fletcher and Balamory.

Hi, I thought all children programmes are now on CBeebies or CBBC for older children felice? I read somewhere the changes were having to be made to fill the hole in the pension pot.

Yes, now that the whole country is (allegedly) digitised, they have all children's programmes on those two dedicated channels.

The childrens programmes finish at 20.00 when 3 and 4 take over for adults.

It looks like BBC 3 is going internet-only. Phew! Glad it's not BBC4 but internet-only is better than shut down completely.

That was my reaction too, [mollie].

As it's very much a young persons channel internet only isn't too bad, but I still hope they get funding for new comedy shows. Years ago I used to be terrified that the quaity of British television would be reduced to what I'd heard about American tv.

Hope we will continue to get the Scandi and other European dramas that make Saturday evening viewing just about bearable.

Supposedly BBC4 is still under threat still according to an article in one of the papers [haven't read it yet; the S.O. brought it with him this afternoon].
