I enjoyed The Great Interior Design Challenge even if was just a more upmarket version of Changing Rooms. DH groaned and picked up his fishing magazine muttering something about hiding the paintbrushes.

Maybe it's a good thing that I've just finished our bedroom.

I want to paint the large pine frame of the mirror on our brick chimney breast but DH has put his foot down - he just doesn't get painted wood or the fact that I'm a lady who loves to paint!! He'd be quite happy to live in a house that looks like a second hand furniture shop angry

Sooooooo, I've been slowly darkening it using Jacobean Oak wood dye and linseed oil. He hasn't noticed and it no longer looks a bit like pine. grin

I didn't like the little girls bedroom; I'm sure those shapes would have given me nightmares when I was a child [actually they'd give me nightmares now]. That wooden ramp for the cars to go down was brilliant [can see it being in the shops soon].

I liked Jordan's rooms best, as I didn't like any of Sarah's rooms [this time.]
Thought the hall was amazing and the living room calm and inviting. They both deserve to go and do well in interior designing though. Have really enjoyed the programme.

Ooh I liked the bobble rug. Didn't like either front room, but liked Sarah's bedrooms the best. Going out to get some light grey paint to do some tired pine picture frames tomorrow.

Those tiles looked Delft-like from a distance. What a clever trick. I preferred Jordan's designs to Sarah's overall, but she has some great design ideas (except for the bobble rug - harrumph!)

merlotgran Wed 05-Feb-14 20:10:21

I'm so glad Sarah won. I think Jordan turned out to be a bit of a one trick pony although like Tegan I loved the hall. That little girl is likely to have nightmares with those weird purple shapes all over the room shock

Wasn't sure about the statue of Mary in Sarah's hall. I hope she doesn't mind having a few coats and scarves flung over her.

Tegan Wed 05-Feb-14 20:03:08

I'm glad Sarah won. I loved Jordan's hallway but didn't like the rest of the rooms [couldn't live with that striped room with the trees confused]. But I did love those tiles he painted for the fireplace.

whenim64 Wed 05-Feb-14 19:36:02

Ohhhh! That's my striped rug Sarah is attaching multi-coloured bobbies to. Got it from the Rug Loft in New York. I'm going off her! grin

How nice to see Liverpool Georgian terraced houses in the final. These streets are fabulous and represent the best of Liverpool. I wouldn't mind living in the one Sarah is doing! grin

I bet that yellow fireplace was soon painted over. I loved the chandelier though.

I will stop off at EMMAUS tomorrow on my way back from visiting Mum because they sell large picture frames for just a few pounds. They are great for re-painting.

Was chatting to someone in a shop today [I've got so many ideas of things I want to do in my own house now] and they were at a trade fair yesterday and one of the contestants was there [the big guy that was eliminated] and he actually had his own design business confused. Maybe it's doing the programme that has enabled him to start up, but the girl in the shop said 'he's not an amateur' confusedconfused. Forgot the name of the company [I'll ask next time I'm there]. I thought the music room was a bit bleak, and wondered about the acoustics with the wooden floor. I loved what he did to the fireplace, though. And I'm so glad the other lady didn't paint over that dark wood fireplace; it would have been sacrilege sad. Yes; the yellow fireplace was a mistake but the rest of the room was lovely. I reckon Jordan is going to win. I couldn't see anything wrong woth his radiator cover yesterday; not sure why the judges disliked it. I've been soo loving this programme!!

whenim64 Wed 05-Feb-14 18:44:02

No, I didn't rate that acid yellow fire surround, but loved the rest of that room. It's motivated me to get the paint out, and I've ordered a new, plain fabric sofa to coordinate with my other chairs so I can inject some creativity with cushions and throws as I find bits I like. Time for a change! grin

Can't wait for the final. Didn't particularly like the bright yellow fireplace but the rest of the room was nice. Loved Jordan's room though not sure how long the white origami wallpaper would last with kids.

Soutra Wed 05-Feb-14 18:16:17

Loved the houses last night (Chantry Rd in Moseley backing onto private park) and for once could have lived with any of the finished results (apart from the 'garden room ' perhaps which underwhelmed me) but was sorry the Music room designer went out.

merlotgran Wed 05-Feb-14 17:58:45

I've enjoyed it as well. I think the best two got through to the final and they couldn't be more different.

nannymoocow Wed 05-Feb-14 17:54:38

I have thoroughly enjoyed the series and am looking forward to the final tonight. Have just treated myself to the book which is very good too. Hope we have more programmes like this to look forward to.

That's a lovely cottage Tegan perhaps a bit cluttered, but I'm hardly one who should be criticising clutter blush Actually I think the cat is the best bit!
Hope to catch up on all the programmes eventually - DH hates them so I have to watch bits here and there.

suzied Sat 01-Feb-14 20:10:44

Agree about last night. Like Susan she was the best one.

Tegan Sat 01-Feb-14 16:35:34

Nope; but if you google 'The Party Palace Grows Up' you'll see it.

Best ones won last night. The room with the cot was so wrong; why on earth did she scrap the carpet and have so blind. And what if those concrete things that were perched on top of the bedside cabinets fell onto the children?? Total rush of blood to the head confused. The two finalists on Wednesday have to decorate almost a whole house [need to find excuses to not go out]. What is making my desire to redecorate my house even worse is that I was googling a bit last night and found a picture of a cottage that I was, to all intents and purposes going to live in with my, then boyfriend who still lives there but has got a very young wife [who just happens to be a designer] and a young family. It totally freaked me out and I couldn't sleep for the rest of the night. I'll try to do a link but it probably won't work.

merlot I think the contestant acknowledged her mistake about the sofa during the programme. Could she have bought an ordinary sofa with a large matching footstool so that it could be attached either en d of the sofa, keeping the log burner visible?

The footstool could be used anywhere in the room as well as at the end of a sofa.

merlotgran Fri 31-Jan-14 18:35:03

I thought the same about the L shaped sofa, J52. The log burner was no longer the focal point in the room as they would probably be sitting with their backs to it.

Johnny's ladder bookcase had a rustic appeal but I would lose stuff down the back and I bet cleaning the wall at the bottom is not easy.

Tegan Fri 31-Jan-14 18:30:40

I realised part way through today that, when I remembered this programme was on, I felt all happy grin. Apart from The Bridge there's nothing else that I'm enjoying so much, expecially as I'm having a declutter/sort out and my daughter has just had her house extended and is almost ready to 'dress' it. I had decided that, since retiring I was going to let my house fall apart around me and spend any spare cash on holidays, but have realised just how important it is to be in a nice environment. Even a grey one wink. Y'know what sets this programme apart from 'Changing Rooms' is the music; it just sets the tone for the whole programme.

J52 Fri 31-Jan-14 18:14:01

Charmaine put the 'L' bit of the sofa in front of the log burner. Those with multi fuel stoves will know how hot the sofa will get. It also blocks the view for others sitting on the sofa. I think she bought one with the wrong side extended! Really enjoying the programme! X
