Really enjoying this programme! I see from this article (link below) the series will also include him walking part of the Camino Way. I love Simon Reeve anyway.

Really enjoyed tonights episode, interesting to see someone who says he is an Atheist feeling an obviously profound response to the man carrying the cross.

Must catch it on i-player. I meant to watch it then ended up watching Last Tango in Halifax.
Is it my imagination or is there more interest in pilgrimage, and the idea of pilgrimage, these days?

felice did he say he was an atheist? I must have missed that, I heard him saying a few times he is a lapsed Methodist and he wishes he could find faith again.

Pilgrimage is about more than religion, that's what the programme is all about, for me anyway.

Fascinating, informative and very moving. It really makes me want to visit some of these places. DH always had a dream of "doing" the pilgrimage to Santiago di Compostela as we were married on St James's Day (25 July) but when we were younger we had the children and he couldn't take the sun, now he can barely walk 500m and travel abroad has become unrealistic because of insurance. Still - we enjoyed watching last night and look forward to next week . Maybe we could visit Lincoln as I have been to Canterbury, Aylesford Priory and many other English cathedrals in what our children used to call ABC holidays "Another Bloody Church"!!

What a fascinating programme I will be recording the series and will look forward to watching,Soutra I have seen some of the pilgrims en-route to Santiago when we lived abroad and some of those engaged in it where doing it the original way of progressing their journey on their hands and knee's it was a very moving experience, the pilgrims where fed by the locals on their journey and the most committed slept out in the elements over night where ever they found shelter.

This was a lovely programme. Did anyone see the rather strange programme supposed to be on pilgrimages some months ago? It was actually about
Holy Wells. This was much more informative and Simon Reeve is very engaging!

What a wonderful programme--I loved every minute of it. For a man without a faith (although I listened carefully, I did not hear him say he was an atheist) he was so open-minded and sensitive to people's beliefs. A great skill. He did say "I'm not a religious person, but I wish I was".
He took in the most beautiful sites--Lindisfarne, Lincoln, Walsingham and Canterbury. Maybe we should start a Gransnet pilgrimage?! smile
As long as someone could cook us the medieval food he had en route--it looked both delicious and healthy. But the Medieval Food Historian did not get a credit--did anyone catch her name?
