So pleased to see a new series of Borgen on the BBC. I love it. Of course I don't believe idealistic politicians like Borgen exist in real life but it is fun to watch fairy tales sometimes.

Loved it! And 2 hours back to back - even more of a treat!

Ooooh! is was jolly good - can't wait till next week. Its so good to find something you can really immerse yourself in.

Love it, so glad it's back, did nod off in the 2nd episode, not because I found it boring, so will catch up with the bit I missed on I Player. Sadly I believe there wont be any more after this series has finished.

Got to admit I got bored and went back to studying the horses for Cheltenham. I think I need murders and such like to keep me going when there are subtitles. I get a bit confused by all the politics [and trying to work out how DO they tie those scarves so they look so amazing confused]. I did like the bit, though, where the young girl with the baby moaned at her mum for moving the nappies then went to change the baby and realised the place her mum had moved them to was far more sensible grin. By the way, does anyone think that all the characters are looking far more glamorous in this series [men and women]??

Going to have to watch this on iPlayer. Love Borgen but DH can't cope with subtitles.

Marelli Sun 17-Nov-13 18:41:36

Like Tegan, I did get a bit bored with it - perhaps being on Gransnet and trying to follow the subtitles didn't help, either. Borgen does a lot of striding about looking lovely, doesn't she.....and why is it that if I tied my scarf in as many knots as she did, I'd look as if I'd tried to throttle myself? grin

Tegan Sun 17-Nov-13 19:00:38

Marelli; if you tried to do that you WOULD throttle yourself sad. Tell you what, lets all have a practice in Edinburgh [tying scarves, that is, not throttling each other smile]. I might amaze everyone by not only wearing my pretend Phase Eight top but sporting an intricate scarf; we could have a competition!

Marelli Sun 17-Nov-13 19:22:16

grin!! I might wear my REAL Phase Eight skirt (charity shop bought)! But then I'd have to tell everyone I'd bought it at the charity shop.....and it would spoil the whole effect!!

BBC4 on Saturday night is the only channel for me as I do enjoy Borgen, Wallander, Montalbano and The Killing. All are subtitled but as a bonus, at least for me as a mere male, I find the lady who plays Birgitte Nyborg quite attractive and well groomed so making my viewing very easy on the eye in spite of the subtitles. They all seem to be well produced.

Tegan Sun 17-Nov-13 20:30:55

ps; have you seen 'The Returned'? I found that so gripping .It was a bit of a shock when Birgitte started off speaking in English; I got all confused about that and thought 'so that's what she really sounds like' as if I don't really hear her voice when she speaks Danish. Although she has spoken in English before. I think her ex husband is quite dishy blush although I've only just got used to him being a murderer in The Killing.

Tegan Sun 17-Nov-13 20:31:28

..... I don't think there's anyone from The Bridge in it, thus far...

Granart Mon 18-Nov-13 08:34:33

I hope there will be a sequel to The Bridge although it will be a hard act to follow. Definitely my absolute favourite.

berdie Mon 18-Nov-13 08:53:17

Just recently bought the boxed set 1+2 of Borgen, looking forward to watching it, I've been told it's a good programme.

MargaretX Mon 18-Nov-13 10:29:42

Why must you all suffer Borgen with subtitles? Have the BBC no money for such a good series which relies on such a lot of dialogue.
Borgen ran in Germany before the UK and I have already seen it through to the end. It is dubbed here by a wonderful actress who actually sounds better than the Danish actress.
According to the blurb this is really the last series. The Danes only ever make three series of their world famous programmes.
We'll see..

Tegan Mon 18-Nov-13 10:46:27

I think The Bridge is starting in the new year. I love subtitles [hate dubbing]. I tend to flit around the house when the telly is on but subtitles make me sit down with a cuppa and concentrate. My problem with Borgen is that it doesn't seem to hold my attention enough [same with Montelbano]. I don't even notice the subtitles. I often prefer films at the cinema with subtitles as well, as I sometimes struggle to hear what people are saying if the music is loud and they're talking in American accents [eg The Social Network].

MargaretX Mon 18-Nov-13 14:42:20

I think with Borgen that hearing what they are saying - and they say a lot is better dubbed. It is all about politics and the dialogue is concentrated and you have to watch it sitting down and concentrating, but it is worth it.

If you don't basically like and enjoy politics then a series about a prime minister is not going to be interesting.

gracesmum Tue 19-Nov-13 09:22:48

I much prefer subtitles to dubbing particularly if I even have a smattering of a language (hej, hej! or Montalbano sono, si si Dottore!!) also stops me nodding off!

Marelli Tue 19-Nov-13 10:25:22

"Aahhh - Cattarello....!!" grin

gracesmum Tue 19-Nov-13 12:29:42

I reckon we will all be fluent in Danish ("fanden! blush) Italian (Ciao bella , ciao Mimi)) etc before long!! Seriously I do like trying to match up the subtitles with what they are saying - spotting/guessing words which might be similar to German. I also hate it when people are interviewed on the news in French or German (which I do speak) as I would rather listen to their actual words.

MargaretX Tue 19-Nov-13 21:44:26

I'm like that in Germany when British people are being interviewed on TV. Bye the way there are some English speaking scenes in Borgen, quite a few actually later on and they were subtiltled, but I liked hearing her speaking English. which she can- very well indeed.

grannyactivist Tue 19-Nov-13 21:49:15

Did anyone else think that her tone was completely different when she was speaking English?

ps Sat 30-Nov-13 19:59:23

An hour to go before episodes 5 & 6 of Borgen and speaking as a mere male I would hang on to her every word no matter what language she spoke in. That's assuming she doesn't shatter my illusion and maintains the moral and ethical high ground. Fortunately I appreciate she is just a ficticious character but pleasing to the eye (at least my eye) nonetheless.

Soutra Sat 30-Nov-13 20:44:29

PS - "Borgen" is the Danish parliament building - did you mean Brigitte?

Soutra Sat 30-Nov-13 22:44:22

Or even Birgitte.
Just seen Troels (Troels!) in tonight's second episode.
