sad news

He was such a part of our young days. sad

Good heavens – I didn't realise that he was still alive. I suppose he was a part of our youth but he was so awful it's difficult to feel sorry that he's dead.

You're all heart, absent...hmm

j08 Mon 02-Sept-13 22:45:30

Gordon Bennett absent! You don't sound too cheerful these days. What's up?

absent Mon 02-Sept-13 22:47:13

I am happy enough j08 but thanks for asking. I just think David Jacobs was rubbish in the days of Juke Box Jury (that was him wasn't it?) but maybe he improved with time.

merlotgran Mon 02-Sept-13 22:48:40

He was just old fashioned. They all were in those days.

j08 Mon 02-Sept-13 22:59:02

I didn't think he was rubbish on Jukebox Jury. You must have been a very sophisticated teenager absent.

j08 Mon 02-Sept-13 23:02:04

merlot do you mean they were old fashioned then or old fashioned now? Can you be new fashioned after the event/s? Or old fashioned in the past?

He used to do a lovely music programme on a Sunday too didn't he? sad And I loved JBJ - black and white, clipped vowels and such clean cut rock stars!!

Eloethan Tue 03-Sept-13 00:16:52

I loved Juke Box Jury. In my old diary for 1963 I've got lists of the records played and my decision as to whether they were a "hit" or a "miss".

At that time a lot of the presenters and news readers had very plummy voices and David Jacobs didn't seem particularly out of place to me.

I thought he was old even then – say, about 50 – so it looks as if he/they were old-fashioned even then.

thatbags Tue 03-Sept-13 06:42:57

Never heard of him or Juke Box Jury. What does that make me?

Gagagran Tue 03-Sept-13 06:49:53

Young Bags - very young! wink

kittylester Tue 03-Sept-13 06:50:01

He started broadcasting before I was born and that's a very long time ago. shock

thatbags Tue 03-Sept-13 06:55:13

grin gaga, or maybe just a dreamer drifting along and not noticing!

PRINTMISS Tue 03-Sept-13 07:51:54

Do any of you remember on Juke Box Jury the young woman who would say 'I give it foive'? (said like that)>

kittylester Tue 03-Sept-13 08:08:37

Wasn't she on the other programme, called 6.05 Special (?) With Keith Fordyce and Cathy McGowan? JBJ just did hits and misses, I think! Her name might have been Janice confused

Gally Tue 03-Sept-13 08:41:11

I thought he was much older than 87. He seemed to be around forever and then disappeared. He was in a car crash abroad a long time ago - was it his wife or his friend's wife who was killed - can't remember.

Sook Tue 03-Sept-13 08:50:07

Her name (I think) was Janice PRINTMISS.

feetlebaum Tue 03-Sept-13 08:50:17

No - Janice Nichols (Oi'll give it foive!) was on Thank Your Lucky Stars, from ABC.

Cathy McGowan was a presenter on Ready, Steady Go

Josephine Douglas and Pete Murray presented Six-Five Special. Don Lang (an old boss of mine) had the resident band, his 'Frantic Five'.

David Jacobs was a voice of sanity - although rather obsessed with Mack & Mabel... He will be missed - there are so few left at the BBC who can tell B-Flat from a boiler explosion...

j08 Tue 03-Sept-13 08:51:28

I remember her PRINTMISS. Janice somebody. smile

Sook Tue 03-Sept-13 08:52:20

OOPs got it wrong ( I was only a baby at the time).

j08 Tue 03-Sept-13 08:54:59

Janice Nicholls

glammanana Tue 03-Sept-13 09:04:31

I thought it was right j08 she was on it 1962-1965 according,I thought she was so cool at the time.
