Stressed out grandmother should be a good example of the average patient for them grin Hope they weren't like the one I saw last week. He walked up to the bed next to DH where there was an old man with obviously terminal cancer and said in a loud voice "Has anyone spoken to you about resuscitation?" The poor old boy's reaction made it clear it had never even crossed his mind.

GrandmaMiney Fri 29-Nov-13 08:11:51

Makes my afternoon with med students even more worthwhile, Deedaa. I hope they make better doctors than the one you mentioned and I hope DH's doctor is giving him the best care. My thoughts are with you both. flowers
I hasten to add I was role-playing a medical condition from a few years ago [now resolved]--not rabbiting on about SCD smile. It did prove therapeutic though. Just as well as I'm now off for Friday (dress rehearsal day) grandson duty. I love it sunshine

Oldgreymare Fri 29-Nov-13 09:54:22

Hope you've got YOUR frock ready for tomorrow GrandmaMiney smile

GrandmaMiney Fri 29-Nov-13 13:59:40

Probably be wearing black as usual! Maybe a sparkly scarf, though, and I've just bought some glitter for my nails. Hair now a bit 'silvery' as well, but with my original dark underneath. I seem to have greyed from the middle instead of the edges moon
When I appeared for a millisecond during the launch programme back in September one of my grandchildren spotted me and took a photo of the TV pic--it's on my profile page in photos. I'm the one without glasses. But I may have to wear some rimless ones tomorrow to make sure I don't miss anything smile
DD and I both appreciate all the votes and thank all of you who take the trouble to vote in the limited time slot at the end of the programme.flowers

GrandmaMiney Sat 30-Nov-13 13:09:44

Just off to Elstree--nerves off the scale--so goodness knows what DD's are like. I imagine she needs the adrenalin--not sure I dosmile
Enjoy tonight all you wonderful Gransnetters! wine wine

Grandmanorm Sat 30-Nov-13 20:33:59

What a speed Susannah's dance was. Well done to her and ofcourse I voted for her.
Hope you enjoyed the show GrandmaMiney

annodomini Sat 30-Nov-13 23:18:29

I've just watched it back, having been out tonight. The standard was breathtaking and just about anyone could win - except perhaps Mark, despite his entertaining samba. I thought Craig was very unfair to Susanna, not weighing the small number of mistakes against the speed and complexity of the choreography. Patrick was stunning - looked as if he'd been doing the charleston all his life!

Deedaa Sat 30-Nov-13 23:32:23

I would hate to have to pick a winner now, they are all so good. I should think even the public voting will be very close.
I felt exhausted by the end of Susannah's dance, where does she get the energy!

GrandmaMiney Sun 01-Dec-13 12:14:09

A stunning show--brilliant dancing by everyone, and great entertainment. I was very lucky to be there--but very very scary.... I wish I'd put some brandy in my bag. I needed it.
Apparently DD and Kevin had done a great dress rehearsal--which must prove that there's something in the old adage. If they get through and if there is another dress rehearsal I shall hope it goes badly. Thank you for voting--just have to wait until tonight to know if the votes managed to pull them through. wine wine wine

Grannyknot Sun 01-Dec-13 12:27:42

Were you the elegant looking woman in the second row from the front, always just off camera when focus was on Brucie talking to the judges? smile #noplacetohide

GrandmaMiney Sun 01-Dec-13 13:29:27

Sadly--not me! I was on the opposite side. DD's friend Sophie came last night, and I was sitting two along from her--but not as glam! She helped me calm down (a tiny bit) as my stress levels rose.

annodomini Sun 01-Dec-13 20:03:13

GrandmaMiney, I do hope you don't have to go through that kind of suspense again. Susanna is very popular with the public and that result proved it. And so it goes on. You will be looking forward to next Saturday with mixed feelings! Good luck to Susanna. smile

Charleygirl Sun 01-Dec-13 20:36:36

From the look on Susanna's face, she had the shock of her life when she was not in the bottom 2. She always thanks the voting public without fail. Some of the dancers do but a few do not bother. Good luck for next week but it could be anybody in the bottom 2.

merlotgran Sun 01-Dec-13 20:46:08

Susanna looked as though she was expecting to be in the dance off but I still think she would have got through. It was Mark's time to go.

Good Luck next week, Susanna wine

Grannyknot Sun 01-Dec-13 20:47:05

Will look for you again on the 'On Demand' because I saw Sophie wink I'm just being plain nosy! LOL.

Grannyknot Sun 01-Dec-13 20:52:14

Agree very stressful when your offspring do stuff in public! I had my heart in my mouth when DS made his speech at his wedding earlier this year, not least because he had teased me and said he was planning to 'wing it'. In the end, he stood up, folded out a long sheet of paper and made the best speech ever: made us laugh, made us (and his bride) cry, and generally did not put a foot wrong.

When I said to his sister afterwards, "The b*gger, he said he was going to wing it", she replied "But, he did! There was nothing on that piece of paper but a list of names". shock

Not that that compares to live TV or Strictly though, so I can imagine, I'd be a wreck.

GrandmaMiney Sun 01-Dec-13 22:35:07

Thank you for all your understanding comments (and Grannyknot I think DS maybe should be on live TV, he obviously has a gift). smile
Today has been a bit of an up and down day. As you can imagine DD has been beating herself up about her mistakes. But hey ho, she has never been a dancer. Anyway they bought and decorated their Christmas Tree today, and spending time with her boys is always the best tonic.
Now she has tweeted that she intends to "work her socks off this week, to make Kevin proud". Must admit I haven't seen her sitting about for a very long time--except at work on Breakfast smile So, here's to next week....

GrandmaMiney Sun 01-Dec-13 22:36:43

I think I need a [fingers crossed] smiley x

PRINTMISS Mon 02-Dec-13 09:04:20

Apart from the dancing, and how good they all are now - I think Mark was pleased to be off the hook, and had gone as far as he could - did anyone else notice how quiet the audience were whilst Alfie Boe was singing that beautiful prayer from Les Mis? Usually, as soon as the professionals appear to perform, the audience bursts in to applause and then continue throughout the song, but not last night, they were silent, and I personally felt a chill down my spine and was mesmerised.

Oldgreymare Mon 02-Dec-13 10:05:00

My sister, who had a knee op, recognises a 'fellow sufferer' and was amazed that he has kept moving as much as he has. What a trouper!
Rock on Susanna smile
Thrilled about Abby too, so glad she is doing well, especially as she started from scratch. I think Len and Bruno have a soft spot for her hmm

annodomini Mon 02-Dec-13 10:22:23

PRINTMISS, Alfie Boe was wonderful. I love his voice and love Les Mis. smile

GrandmaMiney Sat 07-Dec-13 12:34:36

It's Stress Saturday again. I've almost considered not watching SCD tonight--(home alone) but that would be to deny myself the enjoyment that all the couples give.
I hope the Kevanna Argentine Tango goes better than their last 2 dances. But I just hope DD can still find her energy after an incredibly gruelling week. The training, travel, day job, and home life are only part of it.
All the behind-the-scenes stuff that has to be done--especially now that the Strictly Tour is on the agenda--makes me think that SCD contestants do have to create 36 hours out of every 24.
It was 'meet-from-school-&-cook-supper-for-grandsons' night last night. Now that their Mum has come this far they so want her to win--something I could not dare hope for. It's her birthday on Tuesday cupcake so I just hope she can survive one more week!
Voting will be at about 8.15 tonight--[03] pretty please...winewine
to save this old granny from an early heart attack.tchblush

Nonu Sat 07-Dec-13 13:03:33

Very , very good luck to her Grandma
Bet you will be watching from behind your hands , when judges give verdict !

Gagagran Sat 07-Dec-13 13:03:53

I love the Argentine Tango - hope Kevanna can do it justice. I know they'll have a jolly good try! What an exciting time for you all Grandmaminey! I'll join you in a wine or two tonight. grin

whenim64 Sat 07-Dec-13 13:22:41

Everything crossed, Grandmaminey. To have come this far is such an achievement. Susanna seems to do well with this sort of dance. I hope she's been enjoying it this week. Good luck!
