Strictly will return to Blackpool Tower in November. Draw for tickets now on BBC shows websitesmile

merlotgran Fri 23-Aug-13 23:39:57

I'd like to show some enthusiasm for Strictly but it's too close to that thing that begins with C.

kittylester Sat 24-Aug-13 06:09:33

It will be ok by then merlot, the street fair will be over by then! grin

Backagain Sat 24-Aug-13 08:15:40

I'm looking forward to having Strictly back, it will be nice to have something fun to watch on a Saturday evening. Is Brucie doing it again? It's getting too much for him isn't it?

feetlebaum Sat 24-Aug-13 08:44:07

And feetlebaum is a lone voice, crying in the TV wilderness - "Noooo! Not that ghastly prancing show again!"

But that's just me...

Charleygirl Sat 24-Aug-13 08:46:11

I love Strictly but cannot stand Bruce. He is past his sell by date.

shysal Sat 24-Aug-13 08:58:07

I agree, Charleygirl. For that reason I record the TV programmes so that I can fast forward the Brucie bits.

PRINTMISS Sat 24-Aug-13 09:13:36

That's true about 'Brucie', but thank goodness we shall have something worth watching - even if is only the men! on a Saturday night. It is however a sign that winter is just round the corner, so it would be better if it could start just a little later in the year (like the football) and give us time to enjoy the rest of the summer which has been good this year, hasn't it?

janeainsworth Sat 24-Aug-13 09:14:31

No Feetle you're not alone.... I love ballroom dancing but I loathe Strictly, it seems nothing like the dances I enjoy and I dislike the celebs and their horrible get-ups too, and the feigned emotion the winners and losers display.

JessM Sat 24-Aug-13 09:16:23

And me, it was so much better when he had a week off and Tess was in charge. Assume he has some kind of not-get-out clause with the beeb.
They are not going to get another Lewis Smith, ever, are they.blush
Wanders off wondering which retired athletes she would nominate for this years show...

flowerfriend Sat 24-Aug-13 09:42:08

printmiss I agree with you about wishing it would start a little later in the year. However, I am baffled by what you mean by "like football". The football season has already started. Alas and alack.

Deedaa Sat 24-Aug-13 23:00:42

Can't think of any of the current retired athletes who could match Louis JessM grin I love Strictly, although I do fast forward through the boring bits. I wish their costume designers were better though - they make everyone over a size 10 look like a sack of potatoes.

merlotgran Sat 24-Aug-13 23:03:30

Downton and Strictly.....signs that the summer is over sad

NannaAnna Sat 24-Aug-13 23:08:15

PRINTMISS Yes, it has ended up being a lovely summer down here in Sussex, hasn't it, once we were through that awful June!
I'd like our 'Autumn' programmes to start later too - along with the football season. It shouldn't be allowed to start until the cricket season has ended! wink

JessM Sun 25-Aug-13 07:40:06

Their hair and makeup people sometimes get it wrong too - they managed to make the lovely Victoria Pendleton, who looks beautiful with no make up on her bike look like a drag queen. And cycling does not seem to be one of the sports that gives you the right software to transfer to dancing - unlike gym, cricket or hurdling.
Am still struggling with the retired athletes question. Phillips Idowu has not finally committed to retirement yet and he is a bit on the tall side grin Chris Hoy? Now, there is a sobering thought grin

kittylester Sun 25-Aug-13 07:48:25

jess grin

PRINTMISS Sun 25-Aug-13 08:10:05

flowerfirend, I did not put that quite right, I meant that football has started too soon, and it would be good if the season started later, although it seems to go on all year now, with cricket (my sport) getting pushed into the background. Our weather might have something to do with that, and yes NannaAnna we have had a glorious summer in Sussex, and the countryside looks lovely. I am really cross that my arm was in plaster for six weeks, and I am still not able to use it properly, you just do not realise how much you use your body until you cannot use it. It means I have been unable to garden properly, missed all the good weather for playing bowls and had to withdraw from competitions. On the good side, peeling potatoes, washing up, hanging out the washing and all sorts of very mundane jobs became impossible for me (so she said).

flowerfriend Sun 25-Aug-13 09:38:42

printmiss Thank you for the clarification. ......And I so agree with you about too much soccer and not enough cricket. As I'm Welsh I am eager for the rugby season to start.

Good luck with recovering from your break; as quickly or as slowly, for operational reasons, as you wish.

Back to Strictly. I so agree with everyone else on Bruce hanging up his tap shoes and his 'groan-making' joke book.

Ella46 Sun 25-Aug-13 10:40:36

I'm quite looking forward to SCD, but I do hope that they stop styling Tess as though she is a part time hooker! Some of her clothes last season were dreadful.
Bruce is definitely past his sell by date, we need someone with a twinkle in his eye and some charisma (can't think of anyone though) hmm

merlotgran Sun 25-Aug-13 10:44:18

Just so long as it's NOT Matt Baker angry

kittylester Sun 25-Aug-13 11:16:59

What about Anton? smile

janeainsworth Sun 25-Aug-13 15:45:18

Kitty Mmmmmm wink

numberplease Sun 25-Aug-13 17:20:11

I love Brucie!

numberplease Sun 25-Aug-13 17:20:31

I love Brucie!

Deedaa Sun 25-Aug-13 22:53:47

I think Anton could be really good. I should miss seeing him dancing though. He reminds me of the days when I did ballroom dancing when I was 14. Usually we danced with the young boys, but now and again an older man would sweep us on to the dance floor and I would suddenly realise that THIS was what dancing was supposed to feel like.
