Let it be a woman this time. Surely it is about time.

JessM Sun 04-Aug-13 19:30:07

oh yawn, another white man.

Tegan Sun 04-Aug-13 19:39:56

Who is it then?

Ana Sun 04-Aug-13 19:41:37

That bloke from 'The Thick of It'...

Tegan Sun 04-Aug-13 19:44:02

Oh I like him. Was hoping for Ben Whishaw though sad.

Excellent choice. Peter Capaldi is such a good actor.

Am glad they have decided to take a different direction, yet stay in the 'quirky' zone. An older more mature actor might tempt me back, had gone off it since the Divine David had left.

Peter Capaldi wow he will be so good he definatley has the "look"

At age 76 I love Dr Who but never took to Matt Smith. Christopher and David did it for me but have high hopes of Peter Capaldi.

I'd have cast Ruth Jones myself, but there you go. Maybe next time.

I have just confirmed with my grandaughter that the new Dr Who is Peter Capaldi, and they looked at me with a new respect.Fancy old Granny knowing that!grin

Deedaa Sun 04-Aug-13 23:22:44

I do like Peter Capaldi, but I shall miss the swearing. grin

I'm happy they've finally chosen - he is a good actor too. He has been in Doctor Who before of course - he was the Ancient Roman father of a Pompeian family rescued from the volcano by The Doctor and Donna. He was also in Torchwood, playing a top civil servant - not a nice character in that one.

I've loved Doctor Who from when it first started; I was18. I remember running downstairs to watch it when I heard the electronic music, which was quite new back then.

At first I thought Capaldi might be a bit old, but then I remembered the first Doctors.....

Jess smile I agree that it should have been a woman this time, and I'm still chuckling over the Ruth Jones suggestion!!!
I thought Helen Mirren had been suggested for the part.
Jo Brand, would have been fun too.

I had heard that Olivia Coleman was in the running, I was hoping!

There was a funny tweet about this. Something along the lines of "This is bigger than when Balamory got a new Josie Jump." grin

Someone else tweeted about wanting them to bring back hiding behind the settee types of stories.

I did. Did you?

Another Scot!! Time for a woman I think but I can't say who - almost anybody!

moomin Mon 05-Aug-13 11:31:20

Love Peter Capaldi, a femail Dr Who wouldn't work for me.

moomin Mon 05-Aug-13 11:31:38

Whoops! Female of course!

feetlebaum Mon 05-Aug-13 12:12:29

@Joan Peter Capaldi's character in Torchwood:Children of Earth was, I think, more tragic than 'not nice' - he had to do something so awful, rounding up children for the aliens, that having done it he went home and killed his family before taking his own life. Capaldi played it magnificently. I think he's going to be terrific. In The Fires of Pompeii he was Caecilius, who bought the Tardis from a street vendor! Incidentally another Who actor (actress really) appeared in that, as a soothsayer; the lovely Karen Gillan - and that turned out well - let's hope it does for Mr Capaldi!

WHERE IS THE DELETE BUTTON, and if not, WHY NOT? Aaaargh...

Tegan Mon 05-Aug-13 12:22:10

He's made some fine documentaries for BBC4 recently as well.

Tegan Mon 05-Aug-13 12:24:19

[I do sometimes get him mixed up with Denis Lawson, though blush].
