Female news presenters

I like Michal Hussein who mainly does weekends on the BBC.

I like Diane Sawyer on the US news channel, ABC. She's in her sixties and always professionally presented, usually with a blouse and jacket or similar. This way this emphasis is on the news, not on her appearance. Women news presenters here always seem to be in tight and revealing outfits more suitable for a party. And don't get me started on Victoria Coren ...

Bring back Moira Stewart I say. Always beautifully dressed and always struck the right note whatever the subject.

I liked it when one newsreader could cope alone!

Personally I find the newsreaders are by far better on Sky. They are smartly dressed, of a warm dispositon, speak to rather than shout at and do not interupt like the B.B.C. newsreaders. The B.B.C. is terrible at being non partisan politically and the rudeness of their interviewing technique is very annoying.

Sky have run rough shod over the B.B.C. when it comes to awards in the industry if I am not mistaken.

Their news coverage is marginally better too. Both could better with content however. Too repetative and not enough world news.

Made me think about ITV news in the morn, why oh why are we going to have the dreadful Lorraine Kelly instead of the lovely Kate Garroway, & we are going to lose the gorgeous Dan whatsisname! Why change a winning team?

I agree, number. Bill and Sian made a good team - they really seemed like friends. I loved Bill in Strictly when he soldiered on in spite of an infected foot.

I couldn't stand Sian, Bill makes me cringe and Susannah is hopeless. Charlie Stayt is the only one who is any good IMHO. I think the whole programme gets more and more trivial all the time. I only watch it because the BBC weather forecast is the best one for our bit of Normandy, although it would help if they moved the day up into the top corner.

Aw, Pammygran, I really like Bill Turnbull, but he used to gel better with Sian Williams than with Susannah Reid or Louise Minchin, who gets on my nerves.

In the NW we have the interestingly named Annabel Tiffin who is a good, serious newsreader; there is also Naomi Cornwell who reads and reports well, but could do with a makeover - boring hairstyle and boring dress sense. I don't suppose that matters, but somehow it does.

On BBC Scotland we have Catriona Shearer reading the news; she is unbearably girly, giggly and simpering and always signs off with 'see you soon'. I just want someone to relay the news to me in a grown up way, not as if she's auditioning for her next post in Big Brother. (Mind you, the news in Scotland is never very interesting - unless you are a football fan ) And, why do they all have to dress as if off to a second rate cocktail party - especially at 6 a.m. (unless they are just returning home at that time!) I have the downstairs telly on Sky so I can get the London and national news at any time.

I cannot bear Louise Munchkin who is forever giggling and making silly remarks. She strikes me as not very bright and certainly pulls endless faces acts like a complete muppet.

Susannah Reed's thigh slapping is getting worse. Is she looking for a role as Principal Boy next winter? "Come along Puss [slaps thigh], let's see if the streets of London are paved with gold.

When we changed to digital earlier this year our local BBC news programme changed from South Today to South East and what a difference. Sally on South Today I always thought a bit school marmish but at the same time realized how profesional she is and compared to the two presenters on South East she is outstanding - they are simply dreadful and I have given up watching the local news programme, prefering instead Michael Portillo and that is saying something!!!.

I love it when Charlie Stait & Louise Minchen are on, he is gorgeous & she has a lovely laugh & a twinkly expression, also they are very professional in a crisis..know he's a male but not keen on Bill Turnbull 'fraid he sounds a bit drunk at times!

Sian is co-hosting a Radio 4 programme on Saturday mornings. A pity she's not visible though.

So do I.. I think she's lovely. It's not the same seeing her reading the news where she has to be so formal. Wish she would return to Breakfast.

Is it me or do all the female news presenters look the same? Is there a factory in Salford cloning them?

I miss Sian Williams she s such a good interviewer but I ma really jealous of susannah reid - oh to look like that! I very much like Naga Munchetty (aplogies if spelt wrong) at the weekends but someone please take her shopping for clothes!

I loved Charlotte Green on I'm Sorry I haven't a Clue! She often had a little tremor of laughter in her voice, but what a wonderful voice! If I could choose, I would talk just like her!
