What rules are you referring to OP?

The EU are bringing in strict new entry rules whereby (instead of simply having your passport stamped) individuals will have to supply fingerprints etc. The apps which allow application in advance are apparently not going to be ready in time. All this means that we Brits are going to have to queue along with all the other plebs if we intend to travel to the EU.

As far as I am aware the payment is only for 3 years, then you pay again, by then the cost would have probably increased!

As OP says, why do some people express surprise. It was what the Brexiters voted for! Restricted freedom of movement applies both ways.

Why are the papers full of surprise, shock horror, that british passport holders will be expected to follow the rules for travelling into europe? What did they think would happen when they chose to leave the EU. They chose to become outsiders and now winge about the effects of their choice. When you chose to leave the gang , you are not part of the group any more , and are treated accordingly. Do the British still think they have some right to be treated in some "special" category?

Who is moaning. The papers are informing people what will happen. I travel to Europe , my family travel regularly to America, they have to get a three year visa, for years now, I had to get one to enter Australia, Oman etc. Big deal. Will it stop travel, no of course not. A measly few Euros.
Another chance to have a dig at those who voted to leave, EU have planned this for years. Maybe we should reciprocate, will bring much needed cash to Reeves coffers.

The 7€ charge will not apply to under 18s or over 70s. The ETIAS system starts in mid November in the Port of Dover, the tunnel and Eurostar. It will involving providing fingerprints (on a tablet I think). A lot has been put in place to make it as simple as possible. Those of us who have British passports and live in France will be able to use our residency cards which already have our fingerprints. It has been delayed several times, but is required for third country nationals.

People should also be aware that the péage system for motorway tolls is slowly being phased out. If you have a badge (such as BipandGo) in your car it will be registered automatically, otherwise you pay online. It is only a few autoroutes at the moment, but Paris to Normandie is one of the ones due to change this year.

Sometimes there is a lot of fuss about nothing. So we will have to pay every three years, - no problem surely. Fingerprints, - I've nothing to hide so I don't mind.
This summer I have travelled to the Balearics and Ireland without any problems at all. No extra queuing, no different treatment for being a Brit.

biglouis - who are the other plebs we have to queue with? I can’t think of any other country who have left the EU. So why are people from those countries ‘plebs’?

The point may be for some, not what we do with them, but what authorities may wish to do with them. At some point in the future.
Or hackers.
Or criminals. Or whoever.

I rarely leave the country personally. And not usually the EU.
