Most effective mozzie deterrent?

Any product with 'Deet' in it.

I personally like Autan. I was first referred to it years ago by a native of Rhodes and it has been good for me, and boy did the little beggers like me.

3M Ultrathon (34.34% Deet) is the only effective thing I've ever used other than a midge jacket and/or head net.

I don't think you can buy the following product here, but if anyone is going to Australia I can recommend:
'The Locals Sandfly and Mozzie Stuff.'
I get really badly bitten and this is a totally natural product but extremely effective.

I also carry antibiotic cream and antihistamine tablets in case the little beggars do get me.

Meant to add, it makes logical sense too, in that it coats the skin in a fine (mist) layer of oil, and I should think the little b*ggers can't get through that with their stings.

I have found Autan to be the most effective for mozzies and have used it for years now. It's also possible to buy lemon scented mozzy repellants in supermarkets abroad which you could hang inside your tent. Mosquito nets are not expensive in IKEA. Just another thought

Repellents even! Just googled mosquito repellents for tents, lots of info there too baubles

Thanks all. I've actually tried the Avon SSS in Scotland to ward off the midgies, interesting to see a version of it being sold as a repellent but I see that's for the USA market Grannyknot

I don't think anything is 100% effective, we have tried a number of products including Deet.

Some people do tend to be more juicy to mozzies than others, I've no idea why.

It goes without saying to cover up long sleeves and trousers especially at night and don't use perfumed products for showering.
Use nets at night.

And take a good malaria drug during travel in infected areas.

We take Vitamin B for about 2weeks before we go then all the time we are there .

Touch wood we are very rarely bitten !

Apparently much of the British Army goes marching off smothered in Avon Skin So Soft!
Personally I've found Marmite (eaten - not smeared) works for me - it's the Vitamin B I think.

Trouble with Marmite is it has a lot of salt, so if the old BP is high , not good !!

I agree, Autan is the best stuff I have used, particularly the solid push up block - unfortunately it is very difficult to get hold of this here these days so stocked up last time I was in Spain! As I react badly to bites, I double up with the block and spray before going out in the evening and that seems to work! Would definitely recommend the spirals that can be bought in supermarkets abroad - they smoulder and emit a smoke that mosquitoes hate - I have found them to be very effective when left (safely!)by an open balcony door at night. Gave up with the plug ins when I saw the mossies sitting next to them laughing!!
