Updating iPad via computer

Operating systems, apps and security takes up increasing amounts of space, older devices are simply no modern enough to cope. One way is to use ICloud for storage there a lot of data is not he’d in the device, you could reset the IPad and then start afresh but you would loose all the data.

The best longterm solution is to buy an IPad with a larger memory, refurbished models are available on EBay and other places if you dont want to buy new

I had a nasty feeling that would be the case David49 but was hoping I could keep it going in the short term as I’m in the middle of sorting out a number of items that need repair/replacement. Troubles never come as single spies etc.

When you install an update on an iPad, you need to understand that all the new, update data have to be available to the ipad memory/storage alongside the existing Operating System data. You will need to factor in the size of the update and add that to the existing space available on the iPad in order to make room.

It is possible to download the update to another Apple or a PC - add the free Apple Devices app to a PC. The initial download, unpacking and verification is performed on the connected device.

I think you have probably realised by now that your iPad will struggle from now on. If you buy a new iPad, the price, to some extent, is dependent on available storage. The cheaper the iPad, the less storage is available. This is actually an imprtant factor in buying any IT device.

Thanks Missedout, I’ll look at your link and have a go. If I can delay getting a new one for a while it will help.
