We use the app all the time when we need to use it to meet up or check that journeys have been safely accomplished and our family is perfectly happy with it. If anyone needs to go off grid (Christmas shopping for example), then they just pause it. You will find people who hate it and hate the whole idea of it, so it does depend on people feeling comfortable with it.

If they are in a different country I do not see any benefit to you of them knowing where you are or you knowing where they are. It could be even more worrying if you thought your daughter was going somewhere but changed plans without telling you.

I do not like them for myself as I find being tracked intrusive. They have there uses but it must be with the consent and choice of all involved.

Have to say I would have been delighted to have had a tracking app when my husband was travelling the globe on business before the days of mobile phones. There were so many anxious hours waiting for a phone call to know that he had arrived safely.

I would not like to use this personally and wouldn't want to stalk my family on it either. It doesn't feel like "safety" to me to be honest.

I'm award of the usefulness of "find my Ipad" though - as I did leave that in a hospital once!

Sounds okay in theory but there are problems.

Technical Issues. One more reason why life360 is bad is that despite earning millions by selling their users' personal info, the developers haven't managed to fix numerous glitches their app has yet. The target device battery information is often irrelevant, and location data is not too precise.

Don't forget you can send your location through WhatsApp. We always use that when travelling so the recipient knows where we are and how long before we arrive.

In WhatsApp, go to the recipient, click the paperclip, then location, share your live location. This will track you and can be set for an hour or longer. You can switch it off when you arrive.
Also useful is 'send your current location' if you want to show someone where you are so they can find you.

Chestnut yes, WhatsApp is useful like that when meeting ip somewhere.
But not on all the time.

I would not want to track my kids or grandkids and I wouldn’t want anyone tracking me, so I agree with your daughter.

And I can’t see it be the best way to get help if you need it if you’re in another country from her.

Thanks to everyone for all the replies. My daughter has had a look at it, and now has changed her mind, but my son doesn't want to use it at all, which is fine as he doesn't travel to remote or exotic places. I didn't know that WhatsApp can track location - something new to learn every day!
