If you have pearls (of any kind), do you wear them?

I’ve been making an effort to wear all my earrings, and realised I haven’t worn any pearl earrings for years. So, I put a pair on today, and I enjoyed wearing them again - but it got me thinking, you don’t see pearls worn much at all now, except by the royals, and I wonder why - I’ve got a necklace too, but I haven’t worn that either, not for probably 25 years.

I like pearls and have several necklaces. DH brought me two necklaces back from China, one black pearls and one pink pearls. I have my Granny’s necklace, with a lovely gem set clasp.
I have also bought myself a modern long strand with silver heart toggle clasp. As for earrings I’ve got studs and a couple of dangling pairs.

I wear pearls quite often - I’ve ear-rings and necklaces in various styles, sizes and colours. Having grey hair, I favour peacock pearls as a contrast.
Remember pearls on after, never before spraying on perfume.

I thought tennis bracelets were diamonds GrannyGravy13 - after the bracelet Chris Evert accidentally flung off her wrist once.

Maybe that's a myth?

You are correct, my pearl one is similar to my diamond tennis bracelet not sure how else to describe it 🤷‍♀️

Pearl earrings: discreet, unfussy but just right. Those big clunky earrings are hideous, but each to their own.

You should wear your pearls to keep them in good condition. Next to the skin and not near perfume.keeps them shiny!

I have always liked pearls but havnt worn mine for a while. Problem is I have so many irritating skin tags on my neck I don’t wear necklaces now but will check out my earrings.

I have a tear drop shaped artificial pearl on a leather cord. It looks good with a V neck, and not old fashioned.

I like pearls although don't have any real ones. I've got three necklaces, one is a single pearl as shysal describes above and is lovely.
And two pairs of earrings which are really nice. They aren't chunky, just small/medium size. And artificial.

My DD ran off (with permission!) with the pearls I inherited from my Greataunt. She wears them frequently. I never did.

My lovely MiL left me her (real) pearls which I think were given to her by her parents. I lost them …😢😢 I bought some cultured ones to replace them but it never felt the same so I never wear them.

I have lovely pearls in a box in the wardrobe and I am going to rescue them right now as I realise that I have been keeping them for best which is something that I stopped doing years ago. Also, I might need them on hand to clutch if by chance I get offended.

I dont wear them but I sell a lot of vintage multi strand pearl necklaces in my online shops. The mid century choker style are the most popular.

I wear pearls often.Freshwater pearls from Claudia Bradby.

I have a few sets of Majorcan pearls, some purchased in antique shops and some DH has bought me.

These are my modern pearls, bought in Rome.
Obviously they are faux, but I like them! 🤣

Casdon Wed 08-Oct-25 13:01:17

You’ve reminded me Fradders, I’ve got some Celia Bradby earrings too, I had them as a present shortly after they hit the press, must be 10 years ago now, I have never worn them though, I don’t know why. I don’t actually know where they are, they must be buried in a drawer. I’m going to find them now.

Norah Wed 08-Oct-25 13:08:51

Yes. Often.

Witzend Wed 08-Oct-25 13:11:27

Only pearls of wisdom, I’m afraid.
(Which is of course a blatant fib!)

But I do have an old fashioned graduated string of cultured pearls, which I haven’t worn for years, plus a long string of large, freshwater pearls, which I do wear.

Dottydots Wed 08-Oct-25 13:17:06

I have a double string of pearls which a boyfriend bought for me when I was 21. I don't wear them now as they make me feel old. I'm 83 ha ha.

Pantglas2 Wed 08-Oct-25 14:12:14

I wear mine all the time and they do light the face kindly! I also clutch them at the first sign of rudeness, littering or unkindness!

Millie22 Wed 08-Oct-25 14:26:03

I'm very surprised that no-one has mentioned the obvious 🤔

I do have some nice pearl earrings.

Casdon Wed 08-Oct-25 14:46:39

I found my Claudia Bradby earrings eventually, here they are, and they are rather nice, I think I’m going to channel my inner Helen Mirren (I think it was her wearing them) tomorrow. I bet I’m not the only Gransnetter who has these.

dalrymple23 Wed 08-Oct-25 15:02:28

I have the most stunning seed pearl interspersed with garnets necklace, which belonged to my late mother in law. It is very much a young person's piece of jewellery. I was told that these pearls have to be worn, otherwise they die. Is this fact or fiction?

Lyndie Wed 08-Oct-25 15:07:13

I wear pearls every day. Either a pearl necklace or earrings or both together. I love them.

Visgir1 Wed 08-Oct-25 15:29:39

I bought some lovely biggish grey Peal earings in a Jewellery shop in Vietnam. I met this Australian lady who said buy Pearls as amazing value. She buys Pearls every time she visits.
So I did, I wear them quite often.
My DD and my Neice also had a pair each, that Christmas as they were unbelievable cheap.

Labradora Wed 08-Oct-25 16:21:15

I regularly wear pearl stud earrings which I have in several colours.
No pearl necklaces though.
