Short Hair

I am curious, why is it that when a lot of ladies reach a certain age they cut their hair very short.

Long or short, at least we don't have to have a 'shampoo and set' any more. Remember that? Shampoo, rollers in, hair net on, sit under dryer for half an hour. Some things are much better in the modern day.

I'm growing my hair at the moment, will stop when it is about bra strap length. It is still quite thick and even more so with the careful layering my hairdresser puts in. I seldom see a very short hair cut that looks spot on. Quite often the back of the hair sticks away from the neck, and the problem with roots is more apparent. On the occasions in the past when I've had short hair it has taken a lot of maintenance and I had to wear full make up to look OK, as my natural colour is pale brown and my skin is also very pale.

I sometimes wish I was very slim and pretty with a beautiful profile and well defined jaw line because I'd have short hair which would be quicker to dry, but since I'm not and never have been, I know that I need a bit more hair just to look OK.

I had long thick auburn hair in my teens and twenties and since then have modified the colour to slightly lighter and slightly mousier and kept to between chin length and just above shoulder length. OH thinks longer hair is more feminine and I think I need all the help I can get.

Me too varian! If only I had the right face for a pixie 'do' - and a longer neck would help too. Our mums all seemed to have the standard 'shampoo and set' hairstyle - at least we can choose!

I am 66 and my hair is still thick and dark (although just a few grey hairs are there now). I have my hair short as it is easier, I am always out in the countryside in all weathers and wearing hats, I am thinking of growing it a little longer, but will wear it up as I too don't like long hair on older ladies if it is left loose, I am a bit fed up with short hair now. I used to have long hair.

Always had shoulder length hair then changed it a few times as I got older I stopped my usual curly perm when I had the insight to grow it out feeling it had had its day! Now nice short bob and easy to manage just colour my hair myself and quite happy with it. I did recently see a lady with long grey hair in a pony tail and it looked awful she had good features and would if benefitted with it being coloured and chopped but nothing to do with me!,

I would love to be able to have a bob but my hair is so thin that short is the only way it can be handled. I know I would look much better with jaw length hair. My hair has now gone so thin, plus it has receded, that I am thinking I will get a jaw length wig.

I had long hair when I was younger but now have it short and choppy. My hairdresser is top notch when it comes to styling and what suits me. I've tried different colours too - but my natural colour is two toned [or more!] so it's not really necessary. Like my mum I'm not grey which is a bonus for me

Had short hair since about 11. I have RA and find it difficult as shoulders are bad so glad I haven’t got long hair.
