Your oldest scarf

Oh yes, I still have my school scarf somewhere in the attic; I forgot that. It is probably moth-eaten now, it must be getting on for 60 years old!

I put into the oxfam bag on Monday a Greek designer silk square given to my DM by my brother over 40 years ago and an YSL silk square given to me by a French friend in 1968. A find for someone interested in vintage .neither had been worn for a long time and I'm trying to declutter a la Kondo.

I still have my school scarfe, bought in 1963 when I started secondary school. My mother kept it for me, I have no idea why! The next oldest is a very soft but chunky long red scarfe that I bought for myself in the '70's.

A red and white Jacqmar silk(?) which I was bought to go with my "going away outfit" (remember those?) July 1970.

I have a long, printed (now a little faded) silk scarf that came down in the family, possibly from my Gt Aunt who was apparently a 'flapper' so it would be lovely if it came from that era. I don't know, but I still wear it occasionally...very carefully.

My granny knitted me a super long scarf in maroon with blue stripes at the ends. It was the mid sixties and set off something I felt cool in. Reminds me of her. She used to knit hockey socks on 4 needles for school.

Vintage 'Les Coupes' by Hermes long, heavy, silk scarf. Someone else's Christmas present in the mid 80s but she rarely wore it so passed it on to me. It is wonderfully warm around my neck on cold days. Best hand me down I've ever had!

There is quite a demand for vintage scarves. I bought two beautiful Jacqmar scarves from a large charity which sell vintage online.

My dear old Mum used to wear silk scarves most of the time, as she was self-conscious about her neck. So I've got some of hers, they must be at least 30 years old, maybe 40.

I have a beautiful long floaty silk one bought for me by a French boyfriend, when maxi coats were in. It is so pretty, bright turquoise with deep pink flowers, that I have never been able to part with it. Probably circa 1970.

I too have a college scarf from 1966. I did a secretarial year-long course at the Barking Regional College of Technology (formerly South East Essex Tech) which has now turned into the University of East London (ha ha!). The colours include those of West Ham football team. Used to be used on the snowman - when the island got snow - in the 80's. Now lives in a bottom drawer somewhere.

My oldest scarf is one my French penfriend sent me in about 1959!
It is a brightly coloured square with a map of France and some French landmarks on it.
I never wear it but can't bear to throw it away.

The next oldest one is a Jacqmar small silk scarf that belonged to DM, I never wear that one either but have to keep it.

My oldest is from our honeymoon in 1968 when we went to Majorca (it was a long way away in those days!) and was given to me by the guitar player in a bar! Never worn it and don't know why I keep it, not for him but for the honeymoon I suppose.

I think my OU one is still about somewhere from 1986

I still have my college scarf from 1972, though never wear it. It's in the dressing up (murder mystery) box!

I have a red woolen tartan one. I've no idea how long I've had it or where it came from.
It has to be very cold for me to wear it.
I don't "do" decorative scarves.

I love scarves, chunky and warm ones in the winter, delicate and floaty ones in the summer. My oldest isn't very old but is a red silk square bought for my by OH on our honeymoon in Italy in 2004. I've never worn it because it's a headscarf.

My oldest scarf is one I rarely wear now, and then only in the house.It's a huge square black and white tweedy wool ( all wool very warm) which I sometimes wear as a shawl in Winter.No idea who bought it, maybe I did,but it must be about 30 years old now.
