A thread for those who are watching it.

Not sure how interested in it I will be.
Like I said on the not watching thread, it may depend how far some Countires I am interested in, get to, in the competition.

We will watch the match. We haven’t watched any other matches as yet.

@MayBee70 I can't under why the games have to be deliberately stopped for a drinks break. The are enough natural stoppages during games where they can have drinks breaks, as happens during Premier League games (at the stadium I go to anyway).

AI Overview In football, an attacking player is offside if they are closer to the opponent's goal line than both the ball and the second-to-last defender at the exact moment the ball is passed to them. This rule exists to prevent attackers from simply hanging around the goal to wait for an easy tap-in.

One of those rules where once I was told about 20 times, I got it.

I am looking forward to the match as well.

Very much looking forward to it tonight. Partner and I will have a early meal and get cleared away.

Seems unfair to me that teams play in such different conditions Eg England are playing in an air conditioned stadium tonight. And the drinks breaks really disrupt the flow of the game sometimes and could be used unscrupulously. I enjoyed the Norway game. I still wish I understand offside etc more though.

I don't watch the matches, but the TV was on near the end of the Spain/Cape Verde match. Lovely to see a team so happy about a draw.

There was another post here about general knowledge, and I had to look up Cape Verde; I did not know where it was! We are learning all the time.

I deliberately didn't watch the Scotland game, although I was awake having a cuppa. My reasoning is, every time I watch something where I have a preference, my preference loses! Wimbledon, Olympics, golf etc you name it. So now I wait until it's over

Ah, you have my gift, or curse, as well.

I do exactly the same!

Cape Verde match was magnificent, their defence was brilliant and their 40 year old goalkeeper deserves every good thing said about him.
Now watching Belgium v Egypt, some players from local Premier League teams so of course of interest.
In the studio shocked to see Theo Walcott who looked about 15 only a few years ago.
He still seems a lovely man.

If a group all have equal number of points then goal differences will determine the places. As far as I know it’s never happened.

Did anyone else find that the Netherlands red kit was so bright it made their eyes blur? Or was it just my telly…

Yep, so bright (thought it was orange). We found the first half of the game pretty boring, particularly the play of the Netherlands team. Turned off at half-time, but apparently we missed the best half with a resulting draw. So pleased that Japan scored and equalised - they were more interesting to watch as a team!

Many of my family stayed up to watch Scotland play. DH taped it, then watched it this morning, everyone was sworn to secrecy, until he had done so.

I am not a football fan, but my family are, it's going to be a long haul. DH would watch flies playing football, if nothing else was available.

Well done Scotland! At least DH will be in a good mood! 😊

So would mine!! I’ve joked before and said if there was one legged penguin football he’d watch it!

Cossy Mon 15-Jun-26 20:30:03

I’m trying not to watch, but DH will watch as many matches as he possibly can.

A wonderful goalkeeper, a great draw for Cape Verde.

rafichagran Mon 15-Jun-26 19:39:00

The Cape Verde match was amazing. I am pleased they held Spain to a draw.

dogsmother Mon 15-Jun-26 19:28:35

Never enjoyed a nil all draw like that but WOW the Cape Verde goalie was super. What a great game.

fancythat Mon 15-Jun-26 19:23:16

Population Cape Verde, 1/2 million.

Hello fellow fan!
I enjoy watching the big competitions and playing Spot the Saint. It's surprising how many past and present players pop up.
