The opening ceremony is pretty sad so far. I suppose the athletes are enjoying themselves but I'm bored. And now it's raining. And there's a dreadful rendition of the can can.

I think it's a bit different. Do we know that they won't be gathering in the stadium?

NotAGran55 If you are new to dressage, watch the freestyle on Sunday week as you might find the GP tests a bit like watching paint dry unless you have someone with you who understands what's going on. Freestyle is dressage set to music and they have to do certain movements but not in a proscribed order and there's a separate mark for artistic impression. It is lovely to watch. I hope you enjoy!

The countries are all coming in French alphabetical order on the boats, but the purple flags bear the English translation of the names, which puts them out of alphabetical order!
The Lady Gaga routine would have been better under lights in the dark, but then I guess we wouldn't have seen the backdrop of Paris.
I agree with the comments about the disjointed feel.

I'm thinking the opening ceremony is rather disjointed.
Felt a bit wobbly seeing those musicians on what looked like stone ledges. Yikes! Where was health and safety?

Shame about the rain for everybody taking part.

The music is live, not recorded, because you can hear the rain beating down on the microphones.

I wish there was more of a running commentary. I have no idea what is going on, and none of it seems at all joined up.
And where are the rest of the boats?

I gave up about 20 mins in 😱 Dire.
I knew it wasn’t going to go well when they attempted humour in the empty stadium shot at the beginning.
The French can’t do humour.

It's an amazing spectacle and I can't imagine the amount of organisation it's taken. I'm loving it without trying to understand it.

Do you think it will buck up?

The mistake I think is not using a stadium. A linear show doesn’t work I think

If I had paid to sit and watch a load of boats pootle down the river while all the action was either recorded or nowhere near where I was sitting I'd be feeling a bit p#££ed off

I know I’m biased but X (Twitter) has been showing the scene with Roman Atkinson and the theme from Chariots of Fire- really funny! Our opening ceremony set the bar very high - we even had the Queen parachuting in.
It’s all dragging a bit in Paris, but I do feel sorry for the French experiencing British Summer weather though!

I'm very much looking forward to all the different sports, but it's already spoilt for me - Claire Balding presenting again. I do hope she's not going to be doing everything. She's not my favourite presenter but I can accept her presenting sometimes. The trouble is that she's ubiquitous at the moment...

The arrangement and choreography of that song were dire.
It looked clunky and under rehearsed too.
But on the bright side, perhaps not a lot of people watched it?
