I think the BBC staff have all gone home and can’t be bothered to change the reels!

On one we have olympics, ok fair enough but on two we have a three hour film (Dr Zchivago)!

Do they think the entire population is going to watch the olympics so they don’t really need to provide an alternative.

I was thinking exactly the same. Paris would have been ablaze if they’d dare to insult Islam.

I was listening to Classic FM while gardening this morning and Aled Jones said he wasn’t impressed (apart from Celine Dion of course)

Christians are a soft touch in some cases.

Sorry about the rain. But I did enjoy those boats along the Seine. Imaginative and different. Before the Opening Ceremony at London 2012 there were so very many people saying (beforehand) how it was going to be a disaster - indeed saying the whole of the Olympics in London was going to be a disaster - AND it turned out to be probably the best opening ceremony every and a wonderful Olympics for all concerned.

None of those politicians, media types ever apologised for all the prophecies of doom. Of course, we were so fortunate with the weather, two glorious weeks of sunshine.

I am sad that BBC is not able to have several sports being shown at the same time (on red button). I have splashed out for Discovery+ for the next month. So much to watch and enjoy - diving and gymnastics both of which I have good technical knowledge. Was introduced in 2021 (Tokyo) to wall climbing and definitely want to see more of that. Enjoy most of the athletics and am sure I will see other sports that will catch my eye.

So looking forward to the next fortnight - thank you all the wonderful athletes, coaches and officials who make it possible.

It was Dionyisius (sp?) Greek God of wine, nosh and having a good time and so on.
It was plainly nothing to do with Christianity.

So many people left their seats long before the end, cold, wet and bored.One couple summed it up as disappointing and they couldn’t see anything.
My own view is that the bits made really for tv viewers , were quite good as there were close ups of the dancing and all the scenes in the Louvre, the Lady Ga Ga routine was rubbish, Celine Dion brilliant, the boats full of sporting contestants simply boring and way too slow and the piano playing in the pouring rain bonkers.All in all it was very French and Eurovision.😄

Well, we all know what theories on SM are like, and that wasn’t my impression of it.Sometimes insults are looked for where there are none.

I thought parts of the opening ceremony were very good, others I found boring, a bit like our opening ceremony.They must be extremely difficult to plan as the host nation will probably understand the references in the sketches, but others wont. I felt sorry for the commentators as it seemed they had been provided with little or poor info. The ending was spectacular though. Great to see a good start for GB.

Yes, it was definitely a strange version of The Last Supper.

I don't look on much social media, only GN and FB. There's nothing on my FB feed.

I found the entire Last Supper tableau unnecessary and unfathomable. There was no subtlety in its execution. I thought the whole idea of laïcité in France requires people to make their faith an entirely private matter? No exhibitionism of religion in behaviour, customs or clothing. So why include that scene in the first place?
I'm sure I read somewhere that the artistic director is Jewish, a Zionist, and publicly expresses his support for Israel, which is fine, but how does he square this with his vivid derision of Christianity in that tableau? It doesn't seem very consistent. A different scene from French history could have got the message across more successfully.

Actually I'm guessing he might say that in Art anything can be represented without causing offence? But there's a very fine line.

Apologies, you are right as I just googled and found it was meant to be a version of The Last Supper painting by Da Vinci which hangs in the Louvre.
I viewed it as partying going on in the background but apparently not.
Why they had to do this at all I really don’t know but to be a parody with using drag queens is insane.This wasn’t a backstreet revue but something put on by the French State so is mind boggling really.
No Jews that I know would go along with this!
