Parentheses indicate a child who was conceived out of wedlock before the marriage. In the case of Hubby's parents' families, the out of wedlock child was adopted by the step-parent as the natural father was not involved. Hubby's mother's family is actually more complicated than what I have shown here because his mom was the product of a relationship between his grandmother (a teenager) and a married man who also had other children. Hubby's older half-brother was raised by his natural mother and Hubby never met the brother until he was an adult. They still haven't met in person.
