What is Your Favourite Dog Breed .

My favourite dog breed has to be the Pekingese. I've had three in the past, and after losing my last one back in July 2024 I now feel ready for number 4. They're loving, affectionate and loyal and, despite their minute size, make excellent house dogs who will warn of anything unusual. My last Peke I took to the Silver level of the Kennel Club's 'Good Citizen Dog' award scheme - something which the breeder said was very unusual for the breed as Pekes aren't known for their obedience.
However, Pekingese are a very rare breed it seems, with dogs from a pukka breeder costing easily £2.000 (yes - TWO THOUSAND POUNDS) or more, with Pekes in rescue being as rare as hens teeth. I'm just having to serch the rescue societies' websites daily and continue to put money aside until such time as I can find another Pekingese as a pet.

In the past we have had a Cocker Spaniel cross (stubborn), a beagle (lovely but hard to train), and now an Australian shepherd. She has been the easiest to train, and most obedient and good with kids. Very high energy though, which can be a bit exhausting at times!

I love dogs, and know that they all have good and bad qualities, just like us humans. I think doing a bit of research to find the dog that fits with your lifestyle is best. Our Aussie keeps us moving and engaged, which is what we wanted an need as we hit retirement age.

What a lovely bunch of well-beloved dogs we all have. We could probably write a book with all their stories!

German Shepherd, we had her from a puppy till she died at age 12.
Our children grew up with her, and she was the sweetest tempered dog, faithful and loving.
And then DD had one, a similar temperament and we were thrilled to look after her when they were on holiday.

My daughter has 2 whippets . They have just won prettiest bitch and handsomest dog in the local village show grin

I still prefer my collies .

Coton de Tulear. I have two of them, 11 and 10. Beautiful friendly dogs, full of character .

King Charles cavalier they are so loyal and loving I've also had a couple of westies so full of fun and character

The last one died in October and since then my health has deteriorated and it wouldn't be right to have another. I think rescues do realise they've been given another chance and are so grateful- the look of love in a greyhound's eyes is wonderful.

There are lots of sighthound walks that happen all over the country that I’m sure would welcome you on their walks if you were up to it. My Whippet spends most of her life curled up beside me on the sofa. I love having a dog that likes duvet days as much as I do.

Border terriers everytime. Such intelligent, energetic little dogs. If I was younger and wasn’t worried about having to re home a young dog if anything happened to me I’d have one like a shot.

I’ve never had a dog (lots of cats!), but if I did it would be a Cavalier King Charles spaniel. They are so pretty, almost as pretty as cats.

Golden Retrievers are my all time favourite, although I love and have had many different dogs. Goldens just have great temperaments - they've a great sense of humour and make us laugh all the time. They are kind and loving and (mostly) trainable if you put in an effort. They are endlessly entertaining and cuddly, not to mention full of love. Our current girl is getting on and it's a worry.

Haven't had any for a long time but a Golden Retriever or German Shepherd if I'd of had the space.
Years ago we did have a KC Cavalier spaniel and my parents had a Sheltie back in the 70's, he was a lovely dog. Refused to walk on a lead but you could go anywhere with him, he would never run off. He wouldn't go with anyone other than the family either, it was funny to watch him turn and come back when friends tried to walk him.

My grandparents had two Westies, the first one sweet natured and loveable. The second one was never quite trusted as he would nip for no reason and also liked to bark at anything when he was out in the garden.

I like them all, but a Flatcoat Retriever is probably my very favourite. Friends had 2, and they were the most lovely, good-natured dogs, but they needed absolutely loads of exercise - which is why I wouldn’t have one now. Their Charlie would run after a ball literally all day - including in and out of the sea in winter! But not long after any ‘dip’ his coat would be as shiny as any shampoo ad again. I believe they were originally partly bred from ‘water-dog’ Newfoundlands.

Unfortunately for me, DH wasnt as keen.

I suppose my favourite may still be a West Highland White.

Hard to choose between a Basset Hound and a miniature Schnauzer.

We don't have a dog now but, of all the ones we have had, those would be my favourite.

Agree, the Basset Hound! Had one myself (Compton Basset) and daughter has one currently (Meredith) and we know a Crufts qualifier in Brian - they are friendly, stubborn and absolute comedians! Compton would be so proud of himself that he could carry his frisbee and walk at the same time!

I currently have a Romanian rescue Dora, and a Golden Retriever Gryff, who I bought as a pup in the hopes I could train with him to be a service dog. Sadly I'm his 'service person' as he has turned out despite lots of socialisation etc to be a neurotic nervous wreck, frightened of everything! But regardless, he's my nervous wreck and I love him!

German Shepherds, though we still call them Alsatians. We had a pure Alsatian & 2 cross Collies & Alsatians. Beautiful, silly & loving dogs. Our best dog though was a ‘Heinz 57’ my Mum called him. No idea what he was but probably the best ever!

I don`t have a favourite breed, tend to like all dogs, but particularly large ones. One breed that I really can`t bring myself to like is the chihuahua, too tiny, too yappy, and too snappy.

German Shepherd, fell in love with them at an early age and have loved them ever since, had such joy and love from them over the years, my girl Zeta will be 16 in a few weeks, whilst celebrating her amazing age I’m so conscious of what’s ahead

Absolutely love Rough Collies – they’re wonderful! My favourite breed is the Border Collie. They’re so smart and incredibly trainable.They truly brighten every day with their playful spirit and devotion.
