Awful. They apparently sell pretty pink guns to young girls for their use. I think it is time they moved on from the Wild West Frontier mentality. Thank the Lord most of Europe and now Australia are not like that , though we were late arriving there and it took a massacre to wake us up.
The American Constitution (set in stone apparently) was drawn up in the pioneering days when the settlers and colonists were fighting wolves, bears and shooting the Natives in a relentless land-grab.
Why on earth they cling ferociously to the destructive 'right to bear arms' is beyond me. The shoot-first-ask questions later philosophy seems to suit modern Americans though.
My thoughts are with the families of the children šš
Of course last time there was a school shooting Trump suggested teachers should be armed š
As someone who watches true crime documentaries from the US and having lived in the US briefly as well as having family there, I can safely say that guns are everywhere, and they are completely acceptable with many if not the majority of American people. Children take them from the family home and use them to commit crimes, friends dropping in pick one up off the coffee table and shoot the host. Have seen so many documentaries revealing how guns are part of everyday life and part of soaring crime rates.
Donāt think they will ever persuade people to change their minds on the possession of guns is too culturally entrenched.
An adult was killed as well . Not sure if it was a teacher . I read that a bystander shot dead the shooter. So of course that will be a pro gun argument by Trump and the NRA
It seems that, no matter how many school shootings continue to happen, a significant number of Americans want to keep their gun laws and some even want to relax them.
I have tried to debate the Second Amendment with various people from the USA and although quite a few of them do see how crazy it is, many of them see it as a God given right.

I so agree, itās utter madness!

Yes sorry, I believe it was a teacher and another child and teacher were critically injured, I think.
It is just so endlessly sad.
Fatalities from guns is the leading cause of death for children up to the age of seventeen in the USA.
Children pay a high price for this "right".
This is the 21st mass shooting in the US this year so far. Itās so normalized in the States that by tomorrow this horrific travesty will be off the radar of most Americans.
I canāt imagine taking my child to school on what started as a typical Thursday and receiving the call that these parents did. Itās so unfathomable. The weapon used by the murderer was purchased by his mother. I donāt know the details. I wonāt pretend to. But I do wonder how one can raise a child and take no notice that he was in such a mental state that it couldnāt be seen that having a weapon of mass destruction in the house was a bad idea. In none of these instances so far have the teen mass shooters been youths who no one would suspect. There are typically signs that would alarm decent parents, hence the legal cases now holding parents accountable lately.
According to Charlie Kirk and the rest of the right wing in the US, these lives are worthy sacrifices to maintain the right to bear arms. The individual who put the shooter down was a legally carrying citizen. I suspect this case will be heralded by gun lovers and haters alike. God bless the children of the US. The country is nearly an asylum run by the insane. Those poor children and teachers.

I thought they keep guns in such large numbers was because of, they are ready to fight any government[aka american civil war] if it happens.
Well, not "happens", but "need to".

No doubt they're all celebrating the fact the armed "bystander" happened to have a gun to kill the 16 yr old.

I found it hard to believe about the pink guns, but I googled and apparently it is true. Beyond belief.
Awful,
If i lived in America i would home school.
I have personally seen guns in the US with pink and glitter on them. Iāve personally passed by shooting ranges that offer āfamily classesā for children as young as 8. Gun culture in the US is something we will never fully understand the scope of until witnessing it in person. There are states where it is as normal to see a gun on a personās waist or in their car as a pair of shoes on their feet.
Going off on a tangent, but I presume gun carrying is normal behaviour to Meghan Markle, so she cant understand why armed security isnt standard in the Uk.
As you were.
I bet Meghan is saving a ton of money on extra housing since she lives mortgage-free in your head

Not exactly. A country could have a full time paid army to do that (a Standing Army). But the framers of the Constitution were totally against having a standing army because it could be used against its own citizens to support a tyrannical government.
The favoured defensive body was a militia, a body of armed citizens armed and ready to fight invading armies (or put down insurrection, though, of course, the identification of an 'insurrection' could have deeply political interpretations)
The Second Amendment expresses this
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
Militia duty appears to have been obligatory and each member was obliged to provide their own weapon.
As the US has had a standing army for at least 100 years and it is hardly vulnerable to a foreign invasion (though I wonder about the 'tyranny' under the present government) the historical origins of the amendment seem to be redundant and so the need for it. But we all know that the US refuses to abandon it.
P.S with vile consequences.
Well it does get a bit complicated when the current regime has used part of its standing army on US soil with the expressed purpose of keeping its citizens āin orderā. Trump has sent the National Guard into cities that have opposed him politically. Newson is probably the only governor who is openly fighting to prevent his stateās National Guard from being under federal control and potentially going after its own citizens.
The irony here is that the so-called staunchest 2nd Amendment supporters are currently the people supporting the only regime since the Civil War that is genuinely likely to use the army against Americans on US soil. I am so worried for my grandchildren there. Canāt say it enough.
So to the people of the US, keeping guns is entirely logical. Sadly.
And the comment about Meghan still stands.
