What those people must be going through. Having had a few hot days gives us some understanding. To be without water and a home in the heat. The whole place is destroyed. And now Trump is waiting for Netanyahu to finish it off.

And people ask - what creates terrorism? Or Palestinian violence -

I mean, who would condemn us in the UK of we had to defend our very means of living, by creeping takeover...... people would not just stand back and let it happen!

You can sign this. Tried to copy link.

West Bank, armed Israeli settlers are tearing down walls and besieging Palestinian families in their own homes. Dozens of people have been killed, including young children, and families are living in constant terror.

But we have a real chance to intervene.

Behind closed doors, the UK government is preparing to announce new policies that could ban goods from these illegal settlements and halt deadly F-35 arms exports.

But the pro-Israel lobby has deep pockets and close ties with Westminster, and will use both to derail Burnham's ban. A massive public petition right now will give Prime Minister Andy Burnham the political cover he needs to withstand lobbyist pressure and make this historic ban a reality.

Tell Prime Minister Andy Burnham: Ban illegal settlement goods and halt all arms exports to Israel now!

Saw that petition on Facebook.
There might be a chance, with the new PM.

I have done as much research into EKO as I can and do not trust it. Some shady areas imo…..and its international natures and to me lack of specific UK connections I genuinely have my suspicions, and its also only via Facebook

and consider these UK and well known alternatives

Oxfam

www.oxfam.org.uk/get-involved/campaign-with-oxfam/end-uk-arms-sales-to-israel/

Or the Greenpeace one
action.greenpeace.org.uk/arms-embargo-now?source=FB&subsource=NBPEREPEFB43QE&utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=UK+Arms+Embargo+Petition++PE+20240516&fbclid=IwY2xjawT2oQFwZG9mAWV4dG4DYWVtAjEwAGJyaWQRMGZMWFQwTnR0S2FkREdDOUZzcnRjBmFwcF9pZBAyMjIwMzkxNzg4MjAwODkyAAEeAsFx-F4E0O8rnDYLsID0f98G2TN-AX_8wRYU6h2MGUbgkUxnWfp7yBsAy8g_aem__ptm2hFgiq7za8skHQ2sUg

And maybe the most significant one in addition as it specifically asks supermarkets to stop buying settlement goods is this

Change.org one….the co-op has already stopped so it looks good.

www.change.org/p/stop-uk-supermarkets-from-supporting-illegal-israeli-settlements

These are not Facebook of course but if you want to check out a key organisation (on FB)
www.facebook.com/palestinesolidarityuk/

And dont forget Amnesty, becoming very involved, google, not Facebook.

I also think it's worth considering who the UK government will listen to: unlikely, the EKO, more likely UK ones, most of all harass our MP's especially those of us with LP contacts. (make things uncomfy for them,

(along of course with stopping connections with Palantir as a matter of urgency...thats the big US firm and ? and should we let them near any more of our health system))

foxie48 Sat 22-Aug-26 17:06:00

I think it gets forgotten that when people are oppressed with no other option, they will turn to terrorism. Mandela was a terrorist, he founded the military wing of the ANC but we don't see him in that light now because most of think of his battle against apartheid was completely justified. I am not in any way condoning the atrocities of 7/10 by Hamas in Israel, just pointing out that you don't stop terrorism by violence or oppression, you just create more terrorists.

valdali Sat 22-Aug-26 19:10:48

Foxie48, completely agree but why, oh why can't Israel realise this themselves? That they are just making future generations of Israelis more unsafe? To me it just seems so completely obvious.

Pondering

You see, I grew up so incredibly aware, thanks to my parents, who helped resettle some Jewish immigrants after WW2 of the horrors inflicted on Jewish people and other "not us, not acceptable" minorities. So strong, so vivid, my very political parents, all the history I knew...

In Israel's early days I was very aware of the commune movement and interested in their ideals. I was not aware of those from the beginning who were determined to take over the whole of the area, although their voices were out there, they were not heard?

Why really should any peoples actually be "better" morally due to their suffering? It's an idealistic view after all.

It does indeed still make some people determined -and we still hear their voices "what happened to us should not happen to any human being"

But the worst is happening. and maybe because of my initial feelings and understanding of the horrors under Hitler, it upsets me maybe the most despite appalling events in other parts of the world.

It is beginning to be obscene.

At my library there an exhibition of children's art from Gaza. Bringing art to children. And a book.

Wyllow3 Mon 24-Aug-26 23:25:40

Yes, there is some amazing art coming out of Gaza. I'm posting a pic my cousin put on Facebook by a well known artist in the area. Good for that library. 👍

Today's Haaretz (I get the daily emails)

"Israel’s contentious West Bank tender issued secretly, against protocol

The Israeli government's tender for some 1,200 housing units in the West Bank's E1 area, widely condemned by Israel's allies for posing a threat to the eventual establishment of a future Palestinian state, was issued in violation of required legal procedures

Under Israeli law, a ministry or government authority involved in an undertaking must notify the State Prosecutor's Office, which would represent it in any legal proceedings against it. Despite this, the tender for the E1 area was published without the knowledge of the State Prosecutor's Office.

According to a court petition by anti-occupation groups demanding the tender's suspension, lawyers from the State Prosecutor's Office had not notified them of the tender, as they had committed to, because they themselves were not informed by the state that it was due to be published

"This conduct indicates that it was intended to prevent the intervention of the honourable court and to create facts on the ground prior to the election being held at the end of October," the petition stated.

The Housing Ministry, which issued the tender, said in response that "the matter is in a pending legal proceeding, and therefore [it] is inappropriate to address media reports. The ministry will comply with the court's decisions."

So - another one slips in, illegal even under Israeli law 😡

Maremia Tue 25-Aug-26 09:52:03

Whose 'rules' are they following?
Not the rules of international law.

Samwam Tue 25-Aug-26 11:01:54

Here is some of the art on library walls and a book of children's art.

Beautiful images.

Palantir is the focus of the latest Amnesty International fact file.
It's mainly about the NHS contract, which is up for renewal in February, but starts off with concerns about the Israeli military using this technology to target Palestinians.

The BBC have tracked one week of settler violence in the west bank.
A 17 year old shot dead as he stood outside his house.
A man who had lost his leg after being shot by Israelis bending down to pick up his crutch and severely beaten with an iron bar.
A donkey tied to the back of a car and dragged along until it died.
Settlers trying to starve people out if their homes by not allowing them out.
These settlers are the dregs of humanity.
Call themselves God's chosen people. They have been chosen by the Devil.

AGAA4 Fri 28-Aug-26 16:47:17

Lucy Williamson if the BBC was talking to a Palestinian man who was showing her how the settlers had destroyed his olive trees.
A group of armed masked settlers came running down the hill towards them. They had to run to their vehicles and drive away.

foxie48 Fri 28-Aug-26 17:33:31

It is totally shocking what has been happening in the West Bank. These settlers are religious zealots with extreme views, thankfully they don't represent all Israelis anymore than Hamas represents all Palestinians. It is not difficult to make comparisons between the government of Israel supporting these settlers and the political wing of Hamas supporting the vile atrocities committed by it's military wing. What chance of peace is there when people on both sides are allowed to commit such violence?

AGAA4 Fri 28-Aug-26 19:34:48

Netanyahu is quite happy with the situation. The war goes on which is what he wants. Peace is not something he is interested in.

JenniferEccles Sat 29-Aug-26 18:26:16

I thought Netanyahu had condemned the actions of the settlers rather than being ‘happy’ with what’s happening.

Samwam Sat 29-Aug-26 19:32:47

Gaza Aid Boss condems Trump's Board of Peace. (Probably Netanyahu is arming settlers IOF doesn't to stop them)

youtu.be/Kh3M3dWhVaA?is=yHZVZv-HegmYu2gC

The library that has Gaza children's art (some of who have died) exhibition had a book to write your thoughts which will be given to Gaza. Children in the library drew art which was photographed to send to Gaza children. Sligo had the first exhibition, so the art is touring around.

I thought Netanyahu had condemned the actions of the settlers rather than being ‘happy’ with what’s happening.

Some of his government are settlers on the west bank.
If Netanyahu really condemned them he would do something about it.

Wyllow3 Sun 30-Aug-26 10:16:50

lets be specific. All he has condemned is the "Actions of small groups of settlements

read France 24
www.france24.com/en/middle-east/20260829-netanyahu-condemns-criminal-acts-of-violence-by-settlers-in-west-bank-villages

He has not condemned the settlements himself, indeed he supports them as his regime has brought in more and more legal acceptance of one settlement after another.

A search shows:

"Settlement and Outpost Approvals

Record Approvals: Official reporting indicates that the government approved plans for 54 new official settlements in a single recent peak year, alongside the erection of 86 new outposts

Cumulative Growth: Since late 2022, the government has approved more than 100 new settlements and outposts across the West Bank, bringing the total number of recognized settlements to over 140 alongside nearly 200 outposts

Smileless2012 Sun 30-Aug-26 13:56:48

Call themselves God's chosen people. They have been chosen by the devil. It certainly looks that way AGA.
