What those people must be going through. Having had a few hot days gives us some understanding. To be without water and a home in the heat. The whole place is destroyed. And now Trump is waiting for Netanyahu to finish it off.

Maremia Thu 16-Jul-26 21:01:05

It is a tragedy, with no relief in view.

Cossy Thu 16-Jul-26 22:03:14

It’s genocide, it’s horrific, it’s terribly sad.

valdali Thu 16-Jul-26 22:42:52

Horrible. I always feel complicit in it somehow, I don't think we do enough to condemn the way Gazans are treated.

Wyllow3 Thu 16-Jul-26 22:58:11

I'm glad at last we are discussing it. Its got lost in...

The Israeli election coming up which is being hard fought

Trump, Netanyahu deals and war. My, N is a nasty piece of work some of the election deals coming out.

Stuff coming out of the West Bank, settler attacks on Palestinians on the increase - "legal" takeovers in more areas..

for example, Haaretz today;

"Meanwhile, Palestinians in the northern West Bank reported overnight settler attacks in the Tulkarm and Nablus areas, including the torching of several vehicles. At the same time, the government approved a budget of more than one billion shekels ($330 million) to pave roads and security routes serving dozens of new West Bank settlements that the cabinet legalized during the war. According to Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who submitted the proposal, the funding will enable the establishment of more than 100 settlements and 160 farming outposts.

(Haaretz).

and still Gaza suffer.

Opinions are slowly shifting in the US.
Around 100 Dems voted against military funding linked to Israel.

Cossy Fri 17-Jul-26 07:27:34

Again, I stress, it’s Netanyahu I have an issue with, not the people of Israel, not the Jewish community world wide and I certainly don’t support Hamas or their regime.

Innocent men, women and children are being displaced, murdered or starved.

Samwam Fri 17-Jul-26 07:39:23

Lots of doctors who worked in Gaza wanted to meet with Kier Starmer he agreed to meet over zoom but didn't want to see the photos of the injured. The surgeon explained babies died because Isreal wouldn't allow food in
Snipers killing children.

The surgeon has now made a film about Gaza.

I guess as Starmer was complicit in the genocide its not much he could say could he.

Netanyahu is the culprit for me, too. I'm sure he was the instigator for Trump to start his illegal war on Iran. It's tragic that as time goes by we seem to forget about Gaza.
What is the Board of Peace doing about any of this?

Whitewavemark2 Fri 17-Jul-26 07:58:32

The Board of Peace? There’s a misnomer if ever I’ve heard one!

Whitewavemark2 Fri 17-Jul-26 08:00:40

Hell - if there is such a place is too good for Netanyahu.

On a very basic, human level, I felt a bit rough in the heat. It made me think about those people there.

Sorry but that sounds like both hearsay and a disgusting thing to say about our (ex) PM

Trump and Netanyahu and Hamas are complicit!

All power to all and any medical staff working in war zones!

Quite. Tony Blair is a member, I think. Enough said!!!

Samwam Fri 17-Jul-26 10:43:37

It was.mentioned by the surgeon in interview. He said he tried to tell Starmer about the atrocities he saw happening and tried to treat but Starmer didn't want to know.

foxie48 Fri 17-Jul-26 11:23:32

Netanyahu and his alliances have bought world wide condemnation for Israel and has greatly weakened the support of Americans. Israel now occupies 60% of Gaza and there is a large buffer zone that is not included in that 60%. The treatment of Gazans is inhumane and Netanyahu's troops are still moving forward into new areas. The board of Peace has cancelled it's plan for large areas of reconstruction because they are unsure that it won't get bombed to bits by the IDF. It's disgusting.

Information from the Morning Star, a communist newspaper, I will take with a huge barrel of salt.

valdali Fri 17-Jul-26 13:02:56

Yes Foxie, & not only that, antisemitism seems to be on the rise as well, & why is that if not because of the condemnation of Israel that Netanyahu's precipitated? It emboldens those who like to hate, but it is the truth & needs speaking.
I know the Jewish diaspora bear no responsibility for Gaza, but not everyone makes this distinction.

Maremia Fri 17-Jul-26 13:16:06

Netanyahu persuaded Trump to bomb Iran.
Previous Presidents declined the invitation.
Because of this, the state of Israel is losing the iron clad support once guaranteed from the US.

Maremia Fri 17-Jul-26 13:19:11

Already condemned by some as genocide, the treatment of the people of Gaza is inhumane.
The treatment of the Palestinians in the West Bank is considered to be illegal.

AGAA4 Fri 17-Jul-26 13:28:29

Netanyahu and his associates Ben-Gvir and Smotrich are the most despicable of creatures. The amount of blood on their hands can never be washed away.

Maremia Fri 17-Jul-26 13:42:53

I have never, ever, in any of the long Gaza Threads read a post in support of Hamas.
They are a prescribed organisation.

Maremia Fri 17-Jul-26 13:47:59

Yes, AGAA4, Netanyahu is putting the State of Israel, and as a result, the people of Israel, in danger, by alienating those who used to be staunch allies.
He is already named as a war criminal, in certain jurisdictions, because of what has been done to the people of Gaza.

MaizieD Fri 17-Jul-26 14:00:05

Sorry, Cossy, but when it's absolutely on record that Starmer said, at the beginning of Israel's action against the Palestinians, that Israel had a right to cut off food and power supplies to Gaza I think there is some justification for Samwam's beliefs.

That was a disgusting thing to say, too...
